juanchan
Radio 1 in the morning is unbearable with or without CM My dad has the same opinion as you "It's all just noise and banging!" Leeds are a big club though, and don't really deserve to be languishing down in the depths of "League One". Is it true they renamed the divisions because Coke was the main sponsor, wanted to take football to the US some more, and thought that the Yanks wouldn't understand what a "division" was? And that they wouldn't get it without one "league" being called a "championship"? Stupid yanks if it is true

Regularly winning competitions (Leeds??) or just a big fan base? Had to stop, ran out of question marks.
CJ
How do you define 'big club'? Doing well in division 3 (Leeds)? Big financially (Leeds??)? Regularly winning competitions (Leeds??) or just a big fan base? Had to stop, ran out of question marks. I think it has to be down to fan base. If you ignore Leeds (as you obviously have an issue with them) and look at someone like Newcastle then the fan base alone suggests that they are a big club and yet they have not won anything since 1969. On the subject of fan base, did you know that Leeds' average gate this season is bigger than any in the championship and also several in the premiership. Wouldn't you consider that a "big" club? BTW, which club do you support?
SUPRASUZUKI
I think the tag 'big club' is over used and adopted by too many people. If it's fan base based, then yes, Leeds are a big club. For the 2007-2008 season so far - Leeds average = 27,563 (good for a 3rd division club;)) On that basis Villa, Everton, West Ham and Derby are all bigger clubs than Leeds. Middlesborough and Birmingham are virtually on a par with Leeds. Now, I ask you, would you class some of those as big clubs? I'm a baggies fan (not a big club at all). I survive on sour grapes and the crumbs from the 'big clubs' table.....
R Black
IMO a big club has a good balance of these, Fan base, trophies won, financial state, potential, limelight.

I think your comparison is slightly flawed by the fact that we play 3 divisions lower and still attract those figures. When we played in the premiership we used to regularly get 40k - so that then makes us a really big club!

SUPRASUZUKI
I think your comparison is slightly flawed by the fact that we play 3 divisions lower and still attract those figures. When we played in the premiership we used to regularly get 40k - so that then makes us a really big club! I had spotted that TBH. So Leeds are about as big as Man City, Sunderland, Villa and West Ham then, going on the 40k+ attendance rule. Hardly really big, but then Liverpool 'only' average 42k-ish. If atttendance is the key, the 'big' clubs are Newcastle, Arsenal and Man U (all 50k+). So I don't think attendance is the only measure. By any other measure Leeds (currently) fall short. Oh, and just to confirm, I do dislike Leeds. Their fans were a disgrace when abroad years ago and were instrumental in getting us a terrible name (not on their own there, of course). They also came to our ground (IIRC) and wrecked it in a bid to get the match called off and thus avoid relegation. The match went on, they got relegated. It's just a pity they didn't fold up at the time. And they're still doing it now..... http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/VIDEO-Violence-at-Carlisle-Leeds.3444050.jp It's nothing personal to you of course (unless you were involved in these activities). Scott
Rangers man all the way. Oh, most successful teams being the most popular? I think its the other way around, the most popular teams are the most successful because they get the most money to succeed Of course once they get there, loads of people just jump on the bandwagon because noone likes losing. I kinda got it drummed into me though, i was brought up in Larkhall and live there. The people local to me will know where i am coming from. Nothing to do with ignorance, its just a small town near Glasgow that hardly anyone outside the area has heard of other than for bigotry lol. Distance wise its like this: Larkhall Hamilton East Kilbride Glasgow Thats Kinda my surrounding area's along with Wishaw, Motherwell and Edinburgh going the other way.
