JustGav
On a normal vehicle the goal is a 50/50 split between front and rear. Here is the interesting question, should you remove a wheel and build a trike, in particular a tadpole trike (2 front wheels and a single rear wheel), how should the weight be distributed. 1. 33-33 / 33 (F/R) 2. 25-25 / 50 (F/R) 3. ?? Cheers.

Kranz
Mini engined Gav??? i think the ideal distribution should be based on the distribution of tyre contact areas front to rear, so 66F 33R. Just read this.... http://www.hellbentcycles.com/Trike%20Design%20101%20%20part-1.htm States 70/30 as optimum.
Chris Wilson
Which wheel(s) are driven? Has it got suspension? Where's the engine, and where's the driver or driver and passenger? At least the single wheel is at the best end
Kranz
I'm guessing FWD with front engine, but knowing Gav it could be anything LOL This looks like fun http://www.3wheelers.com/archives/archive2/gal149.html I drove a stock bond bug a few years ago and it was great fun. I had trouble keeping up with the owner on the twisty bits in my mates 205 1.9 GTI !!!

I had trouble keeping up with the owner on the twisty bits in my mates 205 1.9 GTI !!! Hehehe, nope, not mini engine, not FWD... Tadpole trike style, front wheels using a caterham based design (Basically just taking the locost kit car design and using it, save re-inventing it). We got our hands on a CBR900 Fireblade which we were originally going to put onto a kart. Sensibility kicked in and we have decided to park that project until we get a CBR600 engine rather. So keeping the chain/sprocket/gearbox/engine combo and just mounting it a 2 seater frame. Going to use the fireblade swing arm and mount it to a box chassis. Initial prototype will be bit a bit rough, but will cover it up with ali sheeting and fibreglass. Handling apparently with the tripod design is rather good and a lot more stable than a bike obviously. The CBR900 lump/gearbox gives us a 6 seq box with a spritely engine. Should be interesting, Ben just left with the old CBR frame to start doing some measuring for the chassis attachment plates.
Chris Wilson
A good friend built a lovely 3 wheeler based on a Formula Ford chassis and front bodywork, and a Yamaha Exup 1 litre engine and swing arm grafted on the back. As I had trade plates he got me to do the initial shakedown tests, around Bolton, Lancashire, on a VERY wet day. It was scary fast, and a dream to drive. I will try and remember to ask him if he still has photos, he sold it years ago.

The long term goal will be to SVA it and get it road legal.

A good friend of mine put an engine in a shopping trolley (cut a bike in half and welded the trolley inbetween), drove it to the pub to show his mates for a laugh and got pulled by the cops just outside the pub car park. That was a laugh
