Has anyone watched this program!

I watched it tonight where they were showing the full process of slaughtering 6-18 week old goats.

It was SICK! God, I am 100% meat eater but watching that, its horrible what they do. They shot one in the head and it legs still carried on kicking for about a min after, and the others they strung upside down with there legs kicking, "barrr"ing away, and they go up to it, hold there mouth shut and slit the throat. Blood everywhere. Legs kicking etc, slow painful death. Then it showed them stripping the skin, taking the head off, pulling the organs out, god you def have to have a strong stomach to watch!

Showed the entire process, and at the end they served it up to the live audiance. Tomorrow night is Calves! 10-30 - 11.30, think it was bbc3.

Still going to eat meat, but it REALLY buts you off!

Hope know one is having a late lamb snack while reading this! lol

It's just reality dude. The leg kicking is a nervous response, they're already dead at that point.

Did you see Gordon Ramseys programme where he raised those two little pigs and we got to see them electrocuted? God it was hard to watch as they went stiff and fell over, but we are an advanced society so we can ignore all that horror and just buy lovely strips of bacon from the shops. Even Ramsey looked sick and white as a sheet.

I watched it last night when it was 'Suckling pigs', I found it a great and informative program to watch, displaying the facts as they are, and showing how things happen. And giving opinions as to how things can go too far (vs the Spanish farmers if anyone watched it (ps - I wasn't saying that was too far in my eyes, nor am I saying it wasn't)...

I was looking forward to watching it tonight, I was interested to see what happens to a goat, sadly I got called for work and had to sit here in front of the PC, I hope it's on iPlayer :)

It was very interesting to watch, did make you look through one eye at times though, but like you said, its just life. Was good how they discussed with a live audiance what there opinions are on whats acceptable etc did make a good watch. I think the bullet to the head is the best way, thought it was a bit harsh leaving it strung up bleeding to death from slitting its throat. Took ages to die.

What did you go and watch that for? If you are a carnivore, ignorance is bliss. Meat is tasty, and I don't want to know the truth. And I certainly don't want to set foot in a pork pie factory, or see what goes into burgers etc. I know it's lips, eyelids & knuckles, but I just don't want to see it.

A few weeks ago I had a Scotch Egg and there was a big bit of eyelid in it. I was very nearly sick.

It didn't seem to bother our dog though.

I don't see the issues people have, it's really odd, it's just nature at the end of the day. We're the strongest species on the planet (the only one with 'real' intelligence), yet we don't put ourselves up as gods (well some of us do), and -unlike most other carnivores- we actually treat our prey very humanely, stunning it before we slit it's throat. All the animal knows is it's been walked into a building, then WHACK it's out cold and it knows nothing after this.

Compare that to being chased by a female tiger, till your mucles ache, eventually it grabs your back leg, pulls you to the ground kicking and struggling, death is close, fear is paramount in your mind, tiger weighing you down, taking chunks out of your limbs, then that feeling of 2 large teeth going into your neck, pain, more crushing until you sence your own blood trickling down your neck, the fear and pain begin to disolve into light-headedness, a few minutes of confusion followed by black........

Makes us seem quite nice to our 'prey' really doesn't it.

I always find it very annoying when we get the annual August headlines -- "Look, the Royal family are shooting birds! Isn't it cruel!" -- while the government, the press, and the readership are quite happy to tuck into meat and eggs from birds which are housed in atrocious conditions.

I've seen someone skin rabbits after shooting them :) Twisting the legs off makes interesting noises I can tell you, and scooping the guts out is like that bit in Predator. But hey, I thought, millions of years of evolution fighting our way to the top of the food chain...

I'm fully aware that animals get slaughtered and oh noes, it's a bit bloody and messy and smelly  I'm also aware that most processed meat includes lips, eyelids, sphincters, bolts, fingertips, gravel, and mice. But it's convenient and tasty :D

Big cats are comparatively humane. They can't chase their prey for very long and they are big enough to kill it pretty quickly.

Running the prey for hours and disembowelling it while it's still alive is how a pack of wild dogs or wolves hunts, because they can't sprint quickly enough for an ambush and they aren't big enough for a quick kill.

Hooves, beaks, and a*sholes is what goes in your chopped up meat eek. But think of it this way in medievel times and still in alot of middle asia there isn't a single piece of any animal wasted. In fact its responsible to consume the entire animal you kill if you think about it. What you don't eat becomes a bio hazard where ever you choose to dispose of it and is in fact a waste of good nourishment. I'm certainly not heading off to lunch to chow down on some cow brain in its pure form as my modern stomach/eyes are conditioned to not like that kind of thing. Seeing the animals slaughtered wouldn't be a problem as I've been hunting and used to do alot of fishing and that prepares you for seeing that sort of thing.
