MaRkYbOy72
Hi there Am thinking about getting a set of alloys for my NA. Is it ok for all the tyres to be exactly the same size or do the rears have to be larger? Please advise. Many thanks
jamesmark
I would not go any less than 245 on the rears, So I would say yes. 225 front and 245/255 rears.
MaRkYbOy72
What about all 4 being 235 ?
Guigsy
Jspec stock 16's are the same all round. Toyota obviously didnt think it was a problem. But they look stupidly thin on the rear. the 17s were different sizes though i think
MaRkYbOy72
Is it dangerous to have 4x 17" wheels or will it be ok? Am not far off purchasing some 3 spokes from a chap on here but am now worried that the rears are not wide enough

Am not far off purchasing some 3 spokes from a chap on here but am now worried that the rears are not wide enough ?? UKs and j-specs with the larger brakes came with 4 x 17" wheels as standard. Not sure what you're asking really!
jamesmark
lol wheels have to be the same size all round as in rim diameter (sometimes they can be different, dunno why)
MaRkYbOy72
he he ... sorry for the confusion. All 4 alloys with tyres are 235/45/17 but i seem to read that the rear tyres are wider than the fronts?
jamesmark
Personally I would not go that skinny even on an n/a. 235 fronts and 255 on the rear. Althought that is my choice, after all it is a rear wheel drive car. What are the full dimensions of the wheels?

It's a powerful RWD car. Rear tyres are usually wider than the fronts in that case. And I wouldn't go as narrow as 235 on the rears. Not sure what the stock 16s had on them, but the stock 17s come with 255 on the rear.
MaRkYbOy72
Thank you for all your help. I guess i might not get them then after all Dont want to be at risk of any kind ...
juanchan
Thank you for all your help. I guess i might not get them then after all Dont want to be at risk of any kind ... The wheels themselves may be perfectly adequate, but the tyres may not. The wheels on my Supra are all exactly the same size but with wider tyres on the rears. merckx
What about all 4 being 235 ? You wouldn't have any problem at all with these sizes, 235's aren't narrow. I've just been looking at a new BMW 330, 272 BHP and it's running 225/45 front and rear. Obviously I wouldn't buy these sizes If I was buying new wheels and tyres, but with secondhand ones you don't always have a choice. When I bought my TT the previous owner had fitted 255's all round, I only had a problem with traction when I went BPU. But for the stock car they were fine. Jake
Lots of NA Supras were fitted with 225/50/16 tyres front and rear from new - so you'd have no problem at all with 235/45/
Chris Wilson
It'll be fine, I'd go so far as to say it will be nicer to drive than on wider tyres.
Havard
As CW said!! I had 235/40/18's all round when I got my NA and it was great!! I now have 255/35 on the rears, grip is better but I put that down to the make of tyre rather than the size!! H.
dangerous brain
Yup I concur with the venerable gentleman. This time of year for certain 235 tyres would be a big advantage over the 285-300's some cars are running here. When it comes time stick the stickiest all rounder tyres on the market on and you will have more grip than any kumho special 300 sized tyre.
