Just another chilly day in Yakutsk!

We never seem to get any really cold winter weather in the UK any more. When it occasionally dips below freezing and only a few inches of snow arrives (maybe once a year down south anyway) the transport system goes to pot.

This place is not at the top of a mountain but a sizeable town in Siberia with over 200,000 permanent inhabitants. This is normal winter weather for them & not a cold snap. It fascinates me how the place functions at such bitterly cold temperatures.

In July they often had highs of 30 deg C when we struggled to reach 24 C last summer.
