Alex
Which is best and has the most features? I want something that automatically works out how hard I've been pushing her and can work out a count down from there... Is the Blitz FATT what I want? The more discreet the better IMO. Alex
And are all TT's the same for wiring? ie I don't need a Supra specific one do I? (that sounds like a dumb question to me but I thought I'd better ask.)
terribleturner
I've got the Blizt Fatt DC which is nice and small, works out how hard you've pushed the engine, pre-set engine cool down period, lap timer plus loads more. All you need is the car specific timer harness. There's a picture in my online garage. I think it's perfect. Does the job perfect, has plenty of features and is discreet. jot_ie
Hi there I have the hks turbo Timer type 1 (mph) Black. I find it very good with lots of features. Works out the cool-down period from the engine rpm. You can also set whatever time you like. Also shows speed, rpm, 0-60 times etc. Its also wired to the handbrake. So if the brake is released while the timer is counting down, it cuts the engine immediately. Its quite small, although at night it lights up a strong blue. not sure if you can turn down the intensity as I think its a bit bright. The harness is quite specific to you car though, so be careful on that one. http://www.hksusa.com/images/?id=1296 John
SimonB
Blitz DTT for me. The difference between the DTT and the FATT is the FATT works on rpm whereas the DTT has a boost guage and uses boost to decide the cool down time. Which is handy if you don't already have a boost guage as it has peek hold etc. The car specific wiring harnesses make life a lot easier as you just unplug the connector that goes to the ignition key and plug the harness inbetween. If you don't get the harness you will have to splice into a few wires instead (that's what I had to do as they didn't have facelift harnesses at the time). It's still not too hard, but the wires are pretty thick and it involves soldering of course so you're better off with the harness. They pretty much all have the handbrake thing I think. garetheves
Ive been tempted to buy a turbo timer recently as well but heard that can cause probs with alarms. Has anyone had nay probs like this and how was it sorted? Also how easy are they to fit (is it somat i could do or should i ask the guy whos fitting my stereo and speakers during the week). merckx
Yeah , how do they work in conjuction with the alarm. If you've been driving the car hard and then stop off at the shops, with the engine still running for a few minutes wouldn't it be vulnerable from being stolen! Or can some alarms turn the engine off and immobile it if it detects entry. Are most alarms compatible?
merckx
Just found out that you can connect the timer to the handbrake so it will turn the engine off if it is released. If you haven't got a clifford alarm and there's quite a few of you that must have a turbo timer, how do set the alarm?
Terminator
I believe it is illegal to leave a car unattended with the engine running. A Cat one alarm should immobilise the car, so a key lock will be OK if you are just nipping into the shops, on private land of course. The Greddy full auto turbo timer is good and is packed full of goodies
Alex
Thanks for your comments so far...I want it to be the same size and ideally colour as the Blitz DSBC-R I have too...I think the GReddy unit is begining to sway me, as the dumb arses at Blitz made the FATT the wrong shape (the 2 units are heading for the lower din slot)
Matt Harwood
Alex, there's usually loads of older 1/4 din size FATT's going cheapish on E-bay. I just bought one for Chantelles car for £41 The older ones calculate the length of time required by the rate of speed increase, not rpm.
