Guest DMo
Hi, Can anyone recommend a good Supra specialist near Reading? Thanks and happy new year! Dan.
Homer
What are you looking to have done? Phoenix in Watford are very well regarded and used by most of the local members in the Thames valley. I think AFR Tuning (Muffleman's company) are trading now so can recommend them too. Toyota GT are also quite local (Farnborough?) and used by a few on here. hogmaw
Ditto Homer. Worth the trip to Phoenix.
Guest DMo
Damn, that was one quick reply! Will check them out. It's for the yearly service so any garage could do that, but I also have a couple of things I want checked out by a specialist. As an aside, is there any reason why I shouldn't use a normal garage for a standard service? Cheers, Dan. What are you looking to have done? hogmaw
Peace of mind is one reason. Also because Mark at Phoenix should be able to help you with any questions or issues you may have. Your local garage won't have a clue
Homer
As an aside, is there any reason why I shouldn't use a normal garage for a standard service? Do not use a normal garage, they wouldn't have a clue where to start - that includes Toyota too! You need to get the car to a Supra specialist for a decent service. On a mid-service any other garage would miss things like the fuel filter swap, the valve shim clearance check, the diff/g/box fluid changes, the subframe bolt torque check, the list goes on... tooquicktostop
Mark at Phoenix is a very clued up guy and very nice to deal with, he is quite busy at the moment but is worth the wait

Well the service isn't due just yet so a month or so is probably about right. I'm not likely to do much mileage over the next month either so should all be fine. Will try Phoenix first. Got to work out the old logistics, but no biggy. Thanks guys, Dan.
Wayney
Yer I 2nd that, haivng used him, top bloke, very well cluded up abt the Supras in perticular, far too busy for his own good!! Put it this way never heard a bad word mentioned abt him on this forum. How will we cope with out him, when he migrates to Oz!! Is he still thinking of going out there? Or has he finally seen sence, and decided to expand the business, get a few more mechanics under his wing and meet the huge demand!! In Oz he just be twiddling his tumbs next to the pool and drinking Victory Beer, well hey that aint a bad life, but he'll soon get board and come bak!! ...........we hope. Gordon F
Do not use a normal garage, they wouldn't have a clue where to start - that includes Toyota too! On a mid-service any other garage would miss things like the fuel filter swap, the valve shim clearance check, the diff/g/box fluid changes, the subframe bolt torque check, the list goes on... For normal time/mileage servicing the check list is in the back of the hand book so there is no excuse for any garage to miss out anything. Regular servicing on a Supra is no more difficult than any other car. I have always had mine serviced at Toyota, so I know that the car has the correct service at the correct time using the correct fluids and parts. Also, if there is an issue, and there hasn't been in 7 years, I'm dealing with a major car manufacturer, not some one man band. Phoenix seem to have a very good reputation on here, but other so called 'Supra Specialists', (Turbofit, Max GT and Mkiv Store spring to mind), have caused no end of problems and damage to members cars. Your choice
hogmaw
You have a hand book?!?!? I am sure I have also read on this forum of problems with Toyota garages who messed up too. But if you insist on a Toyota garage, I'd take it to a Lexus one, as I understand it was they who are more renowned for selling and servicing Supras, not Toyota. Homer
Fair points Gordon It depends a great deal on who your Toyota dealer is, some are utterly hopeless, some actually have the knowledge and experience to work on them. My two local ones are utterly hopeless and have absolutely no clue what is needed in a regular service, let alone the B or C services When I went there a couple of years ago wanting a C service their garage manager asked what "shim clearances" were You are one of the lucky ones with a helpful and knowledgeable local dealership, but that’s not the same for most of us. JDModified
If you drive through the village heading towards Basingstoke on the A30 eventually you will come to a petrol station just before the road turns into dual carriageway, just after the petrol station turn left, the official name is Phoenix Green. Follow that road down to Winchfield Train station we are just about opposite the station just past the pub. James
