michael
A question that came up elsewhere - does anyone here know of anyone who has ever been fined / given points after being caught by average speed cameras on the motorway? You hear of people being pulled by the police after being done with guns but I can't remember anyone ever posting about those average speed cameras. Kieran
I know of two people that have been caught in their work vans but neither got points. The first was on Thelwall Viaduct a while ago, but no-one had filled in the vehicle log book so it couldn't be proved who was driving (although everyone knew who it was) and they'd left the company by the time the notice came through. The other was around J16 on the M6 and he was given points and a fine, but they were rescinded because there was something or other wrong with the cameras. Bobbeh
I thought Doug has posted before about how strict some of them are around the M25.. so would guess they work.
Scoboblio
I've never heard of someone being caught with the specs cameras... but then again they are a bit hard to miss, and you'd have to miss two sets of them in order to get caught (and stay in the same lane if the rumours are true). Thorin
I notice the SPECS camera's are still there on the M18, I was hoping they were just going to be temporary while there were roadworks on there.
Matt Harwood
I thought Doug has posted before about how strict some of them are around the M25.. so would guess they work. I go through these almost every week. On the M25 and the A2 I've got a speed limiter on my Peugeot, so I just set it to 50, and don't need to worry about monitoring my speed. However, when I do this I frequently get overtaken by loads of cars. So many, that by now, if this is the norm, millions of people must have point from Specs cameras, yet I don't know of anyone yet that has even had a fine because of them! This is something that I've been wondering for ages. Do they actually work? - Or more to the point, does anyone act on them or are they just a deterent? Havard
I think they tend to be pretty lenient with these. There were 4 cameras on the M6 near Lancaster as couple of years ago. I went through 3 camera's bang on 50mph but then had a moment of brain fade and thought the limit had become national speed limit. I shot through the last one at over 80.... Gave me an average speed on 57.5mph and never heard anything. The car was only a day old though, maybe it hadn't been registered at that point, picked up the car Friday night and went up the M6 Saturday morning.... H. Bobbeh
Yeah, I know what you mean. I would like to think they do.. as I also stick to the limits when going through them Happy new year btw Matt.

Although I always stick to them for fear of getting points, (got a clean license at the moment!), it does irritate me that I 'could' be moving at a more sensible pace like 60% of the other people going through the cameras. jevansio
I got done on the A1(M) with one of these, 83 in a 70, 3 pts £60 fine
Ian R
I got caught on the M6 near manchester a few years ago by averaging camera's through road works but as for the fixed ones I don't know

dangerous brain
Have they not fixed that "bug"with them?
saboteur
I dont think they can fix that bug. Its the way the cameras are designed... they'd need to be three times the cameras in order to fix it apparently.

Shane
On the way down to Supra Pilot's on Sunday I had a moment of brain fade too and realised that I had done a long stretch of the A14 at about 85 and the old cameras have been replaced with average ones. Will let you know if i get done. Thing is, next day I was going through some roadworks around Peterborough and my mum was on the phone doing my head in and got flashed reckon I was doing about 50 in a temporary 40 zone. Sure I will get nicked for that one. Shame as this is the first time in ages I have had a clean licence:(
Pete
Not heard of anyone getting caught by them, but the M42 ones do make me stick to the limit. I've never seen a mobile camera van at night either. Anyone else?

Yep I have in Dumfries and Galloway they have a new van that has 360 degree coverage (covers both sides of the road) and it operates after dark
