dan4
i work for mercedes and while changing auto trans oil on outr new 7speed auto/semi-auto box yesterday i noticed that the sump pan was held on by 6 bolts that weighed sod all, im intrigued to know what they were made of and if they are used elsewhere by anyone else as weight saving maybe in motorsport or other vehicles. I cant understand why merc are using them as they are tubs or lard and a few bolts wont help lol

merckx
I cant understand why merc are using them as they are tubs or lard and a few bolts wont help lol They'll be more than likely loads of other parts of the car that use weight saving materials too, with all the extra gizmos you get on these expensive cars they'll do their best to save weight where they can, it all adds up.
