michael
Post 20,000, obviously it had to be an important one so here we go... Do you have a gnome in the garden? If so what's it doing? Fishing? Standing? Keeping watch over treasure? Something else? Do they ever move? Do you talk to them?

Tannhauser
Strange but true: In 1981, on holiday in Ilfracombe, a friend and I (both aged 18) stole a garden gnome. I must have been looking suspicious, because I got stopped by the police on the way back to the caravan. My claims that I had bought the gnome earlier from a garden centre came unstuck because (a) it had a highly weathered appearance, as if it had been in situ for some years and (b) a clod of earth fell off the bottom of it. I was taken to Barnstaple police station, banged up for the night, then charged the following day with Joint Theft. Fine £5, £3 costs. Some may call that overzealous policing, but I say that it turned me away from a life of crime. Let's not forget that Jeffrey Dahmer started off with stealing gnomes (OK, I made that last bit up). Stevo
None personally, but my neighbour has some along with other garden odditites - eg. squirrels pushing wheelbarrows etc. Worst ones are the skulls that she has sitting on top of poles...
