Musical Instruments?

CJ

Recommended Posts

I know a few play guitar and was wondering if anyone else plays any musical instrument?

I have been trying to play the Saxaphone for years and on my recent visit to the UK decided to bring it back to Kos and start again. :)

I used to play the trombone. Did my grade 8 and all that and played it for years in the uni symphony orchestra and various jazz bands. In fact I even appeared on Going Live once, at Arlesford station. I've got Gordon the gopher's autograph and everything... ;)

Haven't played it for ages though.

CJ this is something ive wanted to play for a while now. How do you find learning the sax?

Tricky?

I suppose it's like any other instrument really - tricky until you get the hang of things. Don't get me wrong, I'm no Courtney Pine but I found it easier to learn basic cords and play them with the Sax than I did when I tried the guitar.

I play guitar and bass guitar! I have a trombone too, but I have not played that since I was 18 :( I love the Shadows and Dire Straits!!!!

Well, I also played the trombone up to the ageof 18, even managed a solo with the youth brass band in the Royal Albert Hall.

I wonder if there is a theme developing here. Perhaps weall ought to get up in the attics and get them out for Jap show later in the year. I'm assuming that I can still get a note out of it as I haven't touched it for 20 years.

Oh, and CJ, it came as no surprise to me that you are a raving sax maniac :p

Ooo I played it at school. Got to grade 3 and sort of thought it wasn't cool enough anymore.

My brother is a grade 8 though, he's amazing.

Good luck with it. :)

Thanks! I did pretty well with the Oboe (studying for grade 8 when I left school) but somehow my Clarinet playing just isn't quite the same. Still I enjoy myself even if others around me don't :)

I spent 10 years of my childhood learning the alto sax with weekly lessons at school and private tuition payed for by my parents. Hated every second of it at the time but looking back i wish i'd tried harder, got to grade 6 or 7 i think. Packed up the lessons when i was about 19 due to the death of my teacher (he was 80 and dropped dead on his favourite hole of his golf course) anyway, i digress....

I drag the sax out of the case every 6 months or so i give it a blast to make sure i can still do it.

Spent the last couple of years trying to teach myself the guitar, electric and acoustic. I can play a few bits and bobs but nothing very impressive.

None, I am afraid.

I am as my Husband would say "Tonedeaf". As soon as I start singing, whisteling or Humming my whole Family threaten to move out even the cat packs his backpack.

Same here..:( Lad taught himself guitar in 2 years, had a band in 3 years vocal and guitar. Talented sod.
