Pabs
As per title really... I'm looking to host a couple of small websites ( I already have URL's, so I just redirect them as/when required. Traffic to these sites is minimal - one is a bit of a testbed site to demo a few things to mates etc. Anyone recommend somewhere to host - or will it all cost money? michael
Does the ISP you are with at present not offer a token amount of space you could use?
Pabs
you'd think so, wouldn't you - but it appears that Sky do NOT do such a thing
MrRalphMan
Not, you get what you pay for with SKY....
Pabs
Not, you get what you pay for with SKY.... TBH I won't turn this into a big ISP debate - but my £16 a month is VERY well spent - decent TV channels, 2MB BB (and thats a CONSTANT 2MB as well, according to my daily speed-checks) and free phone calls as well. Only time I've ever had to contact Sky was to get it all installed. Obviously the webspace is missing, but there "seem" to be a lot of free hosting places out there by googling - just don't know if any of them are actually that good at all? Oops, wasn't meant to be a go at SKY.. I use their £10 unlimited package and it's been pretty good so far. Just you don't get any Extra's with it. Ric
the hoster i use will set you up a decent package with around 100mb and 5gb of transfer for 18quid for the year.... with all the uptime guarantees n all that
Dash Rendar
I use oneandone.co.uk for webhosting. I use a Business Pro package for my sites, but they also do a 'Beginner' package for only £1.99 a month! It includes 250MB of webspace, allows 3GB of data transfer a month, includes mailboxes and antivirus features. But if you do it now, they're giving 50% off. You can't do much better than all than for £1 a month! There are various other packages. The Home package gives you various other stuff like MySQL too. Do me a favour... use this link as I should get a referral fee: http://www.1and1.co.uk/?k_id=5676403. (Not that it's ever worked before.) cheekymonkey
If it helps I run apache and wotnot for a few little sites on my ADSL connection at home. I can host it for you if you don't mind the odd outage - I run mail servers for me and my family so it's not often out but can't make any promises I run virtual servers on Vmware so either windows or linux it's up to you. Pabs
Thank you so much for all your ideas/thoughts. Thanks Cheekymonkey for the very kind offer of free hosting! However, I've managed to find some free hosting that I have used before - I thought my account had been deleted but apparently not so! Cheers!
