MrHanky
Well for the past few days my 360 has been freezing, and it got to the point where I could not even get to the menu screen when a disc wasn't in. So I phoned the support line this morning and was told that my 1 year warranty ended about 3 weeks ago. The console in question was the replacement for my original 360 which had the 3 red rings. Anyway I was told that because it was just screen freeze and not the 3 red rings (they extended the warranty for that error to 3 years), that I would have to pay £60 to get it repaired . I was a bit p*ssed off, and told the agent that I would have a think about it, as I do not expect consoles to have a life of 12 - 13 months. Then I had a look on the xbox forum and noticed that a few others had had screen freeze, that had then turned into the 3 red rings. So I thought that I would just leave the console on until this appeared. within 3 seconds of me turning it on I get it. I never thought I would be happy to see these rings again, but this means I will probably end up with a new one free of charge Still shocking that it died in the first place. Sorry for the essay Mark
Pabs
I love the xbox, but I'm in two minds whether to buy one as they seem so unreliable. I have the standard xbox(not 360) and that has had a few issues too.....
MrHanky
I do think it is very good apart from the obvious problem they have with reliability. It would seem that most of the issues surround this 3 red rings problem, for which they have a 3 year warranty, so overall I think you will be alright. Just make sure they have lots of free flowing air as heat is its enemy in a big way. Mark
Matt Harwood
Apparently, the fault behind these was due to the manufacturers trying to speed up the build process and the ran one of the PCB's through a solder bed to quickly which didn't allow enough solder to stick to the board. Once they start to get warm, the solder cracks where it's too thin, and hey-presto screen freezing, followed by the circle of death... Unless you can find a very friendly dealer, they don't swap them any more. It has to be sent off via UPS. You'll be given a phone number to call, which goes through to a foreign country, and they mail you labels to attach to a box. Once you've done that, you phone UPS and they arrange collection. They're quoting a turnaround time of 2-3 weeks at the moment. My sons gets collected on Wednesday. Just what he wanted for Christmas... 6 games and nothing to play them on
RobSheffield
Update us when you call back and say 'i have red ring' Id be worried that the original call was logged and that they will think you are trying it on
JustGav
Yup, even though MS screwed up with the design, they are at least (after a bit of pressure) doing the right thing with the warranty... Mine got swapped out in around 2 weeks.

But at least we are both into Lego Star Wars which you play co-op on one 360 Thats what they told me last time mine broke (they will fix it), but after 2 weeks they just sent me a new one. Hopefully they will do the same again. Update us when you call back and say 'i have red ring' Id be worried that the original call was logged and that they will think you are trying it on lol. I thought that when I phoned them back but I have switched it on and off a few times now and every time I get the red ring. I also took a photo of it just in case as well. DrivingTheDream
How often do you guys which have broken ones use them? I've had mine since Day 1 and no problems although I only use it once/twice a week if that.
MrHanky
I use mine daily pretty much. Between 1 and 4 hours a day on average.

Now that's done, he seems to have re-grown the old PS2 bodily attachment...

His TV needs to go in for repairs as it does not handle blue colours well at all, so I am going to have to take it off him for a few weeks as of next week
