hogmaw
I hate these fu*kers at the best of times, pootling along in their own little world, oblivious to the huge jam in the outside lane as drivers queue to overtake, while the inside lane is clear for miles and miles... So when I joined onto the motorway today behind some random car, we both started out at 60ish on the inside lane, as you do. Inside lane was completely clear. As I'm in the supra, I don't fancy crawling along at 60 so I soon indicate and pull into the centre lane to overtake. What does the idiot in front do? Yes he pulls out into the middle lane in front of me, so he can pootle along in the middle lane at 60 as usual - even though the inside lane is clear - causing me to brake hard cos there was something coming up in the outside lane. What a prick. Needless to say, when I did pass him he was sat there, staring straight ahead, gormless and oblivious to my two-fingered salute. He stayed there in the middle until I lost him in my mirror, another one of England's millions of MIDDLE LANE DRIVERS OK rant over thanks for reading
DannyB
lol, that was an interesting read! Maybe he knew he peed you off and didnt look over on purpose? happens alot to me!
jamesmark
Many a time I have joined the motorway or even a 2 lane bypass and it is empty, when the car in front also joining proceeds to join and then straight away goes either into the middle lane or the outside lane. Now third lane drivers on an empty motorway do my head in even more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Havard
I get this all the time and it drives me potty! It's as if going in the inside lane is sort of unfashionable.... I usually overtake and then cut accross all three lanes quite violently to get my point accross! The standard of driving in this country is appalling.... H. AndyT
I have been known to go round 'em in circles... undertake, cross to outer lane, slow 'til behind 'em you get the picture. Thick skinned these middle laners though, didn't bat an eyelid.
_Lynz_
This really irritates me too. We recently went to Glasgow to buy my new car, on the way back there was a clear motorway and a Picasso in the middle lane, so I flashed him to move over... nothing... then he braked so I went round him ranting away to him. What they didn't realise was that Ste was with me closely following behind so he did the same thing, they still didn't move. So Ste drove past and ranted too. It was totally wasted they didn't move and had the cheek to shout at us, oblivious to what was going on and why we where flashing them. Plonkers!! I have to admit though I tend to opt for Havards violent crossing of 3 lanes to prove my point.
edge
I read someones idea on here before and have done it ever since. Over take middle lane driver then pull back into slow lane, Repeat until they notice (can take sometime) Then you get them looking at you as if you're the tw@t then its time to salute and enjoy the rest of the journey. Supra-Brett
I hate these idiots too, and admit to flashing, shouting, swearing, gesturing etc etc until they get the idea that they are idiots. Its about time we had minimum speed limits in each lane (ive not quite worked out what happens when its gridlocked yet though) 50mph minimum in inside lane 70 mph minimum in middle lane 100mph minimum in outside lane Discuss !!!!!!!! creative
see it everyday, well night, when I'm driving home at 4am from work. I just undertake em. Cant be arsed with hassling them and they usually move over after that..... Oh and why is it when you can be on an empty motorway for miles and when you get to the junction you need there is all of a sudden a million trucks doing 50 so you have to slow down.. michael
Just thought I'd offer some additional reading with links to interesting external site to add to this variant on the theme. I hate the 2 lane sections of the A1 when the lorry loons are playing the 55mph vs 56mph overtaking game.
Guigsy
on the way to the convoy for the japshow a few months back me and shadowbest were going down the m1 at some stupid time in the morning, in the "slow" lane as it was almost empty and there was someone in the middle lane. I saw him early so pulled over to the outside and put my foot down. Im sure shadowbest did the same but went down the inside... Probably woke him up. hogmaw
I undertake too. Fu*k em ps and it's NOT illegal
juanchan
How is it not illegal? I've done it myself, but I'm sure it is?
hogmaw
Police can't get you for undertaking as it's not illegal. What they do get you for, if they catch you undertaking, is Dangerous Driving, or something like that. I'm sure Doug will be around in a bit to clarify. juanchan
Ah, it's one of those "technical" things they get you for. Why not stop all middle lane road hogs for dangerous driving and infuriating all other road users while they're at it though?
hogmaw
I would LOVE it if that happened, but I very much doubt anyone has ever been pulled over for it. I think the Highway Code says that driving on the inside lane is 'advised' rather than actual law.
