What age do you tell them?

dilemma - my lad is just 5 years old - i have always considered him intelligent and looks like this might be the case - this morning he had a puzzled look on his face - when asked what was up he started asking questions about

.....if santa was real why do we still have presents to give out and why is it that everyone else(relatives) have brought him presents to our house - he suggested that if santa was real and he knows where we live then he would drop all the presents off in one place, also suggesting this would speed things up for santa's delivery schedule

not quite his words but - got me thinking - at what age would you tell your kids the BIG SECRET?

Ah, so it starts..

You don't tell em, they just work it out in the end... Try to keep the dream alive as long as posible..

Tell him that he gets certain 'special' presents from Santa and that his Family also get some as it's Christmas.

We always give Santa's presents in their stockings on their doors.

Ah... we told Ellis Santa has a magic key as he can't get down the chimney becuase we have a gas fire! Ellis then asked how Santa knows that we have a gas fire! A bit of quick thinking by H. saved us and he told Ellis Santa can tell that we have a gas fire because of the shape of the chimney:d

I'd keep the magic going as long as possible.. say until he's about 35!

You don't tell 'em. You just leave it as over the years he plays along with you, neither party admitting the awful truth.

cant work out whether you 2 are right - mate from work says his wife told their lad (who was 10 at the time) and his answer was .... i know mum, i know:rolleyes:

I think it's a little sad that some parents seem to feel the need to tell kids this sort of thing?

Just let em beleive until they work it out for themselves... I will always try to keep the magic alive as long as possible.

i DONT want to tell him - but he seems to have worked it out for himself .................at 5 thats way too early - it means hes only had 2-3 "proper" christmas days - but cant remember when i first realised and wondered if 5 was early or the norm

Call me a scrooge, but i think i would be upfront in the first place and not tell my kids that there was a man that came and gave you presents.

I for one remember being confused that why are my mum and dad not giving me presents for being good and someone that does not know me is?

Also i remember when i found out "santa" was not real i felt like i was lied to..

When i have kids im not going to even mention santa i think its all just hyped up commercialism, they will still get presents but not with all the lies that go with it.
