Difference between Stock and Aftermarket BOV

Excuse me if its a stupid question as not very good with engines :( but what exactly are the differences and advantages of fitting an aftermarket BOV. I have a completely standard 6sp TT apart from De-cat pipes and full exhaust system, oh year and an induction kit. Would an aftermarket BOV make any difference whatsoever and would it be worth buying.

Cheers

It'll just make an annoying noise, and probably fail quite soon ;) I don't run any form of BOV's on my own turbo engines at all, to be honest.

Do you mean no dump-to-atmo ones, just recirculatory, or none at all?! I know racing cars don't run any sort of valving like this because they consider turbos to be a throwaway component but surely that's going a bit far for a street engine? :) I've heard turbo stall from a lack of BOV/recirc valve and it sounds nasty....

None at all, never had a turbo problem from being run in its efficiency range, but without any form of BOV, nor have I ever found any difference in spool up or anything else apart from noise issues... The car makers only fit them for NVH reasons, the customers don't like the noise of a compressor without any sort of BOV. According to the 2 big name experts I know they feel a lack of BOV makes no difference to turbo longevity. YMMV though....

the ssqv is a louder version of the stock bov IMO, its nothing like the cheapo crap you hear on old bangers,
That's right, it's more like the expensive crap you hear on old Supras. :D

Gareth,

A loud BOV does nothing for the performance of your car. Their main 'advantage' is that teenage lads think your car is cool. The downside is that everyone else thinks you're an attention seeker whose car sounds like a bus. :p

HTH :p
