Hello there,

 

Does anyone know much the total cost to get a Jap TT mkiv supra from japan on the road? (taxes mot and other things?)

No idea about the price for other countries in Europe, but when I had my car imported the cost breakdown was as follows:

 

Price of car ~ £4100

Transport from Japan to UK ~ £1000

Converting for MOT etc ~ £500

Agents fees ~ £500

Thank you, Im thinking of putting it on english plates first. But no taxes? I heard something about 17.5% or something?

I could be wrong, but there is 5% import tax and I think you have to pay VAT which is 17.5%

Yeah, you're probably right. I pretty sure I paid tax. Maybe I didn't pay a great amount because the original purchase price was very low.

You also have to get her through a MOT type test to make shure it complies wit UK laws as well as gerestering it.

 

This test, cant remember what its called but A10 seems to ring a bell, is part of it obtaining a log book.

This is the breakdown of the cost my new TT 6 speed from japan to UK. VAT shown on here will be more than it would be if the car you bought was say 5000 because its a percentage, but it gives you an idea. This is what Jurgen sent me when I asked him.

 

£8200 car

£500 jap fees (de regm,transportation,inspection)

£500 shipping freight

£500 jm-imports fee

£160 dvla registration

£45 pick up from docks (includes fuel etc)

£20 plates

£40 fog kit

£80 speedo chip

£45 oil change plus filter

£45 mot

£1300 - £1400 will be vat,customs,duty charges

Got mine back to the UK and on the road for £5000 in April this year.....Grade 4 1993 GZ TT Auto

4% import TAX (I think)

17.5% VAT

+ shipping and then massive MOT test thing.

import tax is 10% then you pay VAT at 17.5% and yes its on the original price plus the 10%. So you pay tax on your tax!!

Yep import tax is actually 10% and the taxes are cumulative.

 

A rough rule of thumb is car price in Japan + 50%

I've been here for a while and now is the time

Bought A '96 GZ model Twinturbo(doh).

 

In Holland we have MOT + vat = about 3000 euro and then to a test center 1000 eur and then the rest, wich is about 5000 total.

So I wanted to know if it can be done more cheap.

 

I'll make the calculation,
