colsoop
X360's HD-DVD capabilities are less than good. But the Ps3 as a BD drive is excellent. BD will become the choice of the IT world in the end to transport data, it got way more capacity and is technologically superior. HD-DVD is only good for film content at the moment and that's because it came out first. BD is playing catchup in that way only. To wish you could have the PS3 without the BD drive is daft, it's backwardly compatible and just because you don't have any BD films right now doesn't mean you won't go and rent them etc etc in the future. My opinion is not daft just because it is different to yours. i simply would like the option of whether to have the drive or not and have a reduced cost on the console itself as my primary goal for a games console is to play games that is all My pc is my media centre and is used as such, for films music etc. The consoles are only dipping their foot in the water of being media centres and in my mind are a while away from doing it all properly so in the mean time i want a games console which is why iw ent with the x box as it concentrates on being a games console. Xbox 360 is the console to have for gaming. As Alex has said in future ps3 for movies...but then you may as well buy the ps3 in a year when it should be cheaper. Got both personnally would pick 360 to play on every time simply because games just seem to work much better on it At the moment playing CoD 4, Kane +Lynch and fight night round 3 all fantastic on 360. and as said before xbox live is tops. Seriously I'd not heard this, can you show me an article, as they would be a backward step....the discs will have 3 x the capacity of the HDD soon!!! Kopite
Think it's £280 but as WSB2 said, no backwards compatibility. There's an 80Gb one as well isn't there?
Seb
Not yet there isn't but I've heard rumours.

Seriously I'd not heard this, can you show me an article, as they would be a backward step....the discs will have 3 x the capacity of the HDD soon!!! Plus am I not right in thinking that the 60gb version had wifi connection capability and the 40gb can only be set up via fixed ethernet cable? Bugger....was going to get a PS3 in the new year and the daft sods have complicated things by dropping some of the key features from the 60gb version! This said, my mate has both PS3 and 360 and although I do like the 360 he is now on his 5th replacement box!!!!! Thats just an overly unacceptable failure rate for me!!!! Plus I do think the graphics on the PS3 are slightly better. Also BluRay asside, standard DVD's are unbelievable via the PS3 with its enhancement engine...so still lots of plus points. Yup, this what I use mine mainly for at the mo as it's vastly better quality. I haven't actually got any games for it tho lol
chris2o2
360 for me everytime .
Jive
Coming from a Sony FANBOY go buy a 360. I've got the PSx (launch day machine - still works) - PS2 launch day machine (still works) and was excited about the prospect of the PS3 ... biiiig mistake. Sony really hacked me and I think alot of Europeans off by releasing in the rest of world and then wait so long to launch here. In the meantime, I went out and bought a 360 (after playing on my mates) and found the Live setup so easy and the range of games available basically sums it up. Oh and Grand Theft Auto 4 - ready to be released on the 360 today, tomorrow or even Christmas Eve ... but no, we HAVE to wait for the PS3 game to be coded ... not impressive if you ask me! Glosphil
I've got both, dont play on either... lol I did put Xubuntu on my PS3 the day I got it, and it does play Blu ray, but then I have the HD player for the xbox too. Got a Wii too, dont play that either... So, amount played in the last 4 weeks, the PS3 wins just.
Kirk
I will be getting a PS3 soon! I am not well up on all the technical guff but it seems that Sony have a reliable formula and I would expect the range of games availalble to increase massively in the next year! I was looking for a 360 about 3 months ago and bid on a few on e-bay but I'm glad I didn't win as the reliability issues have put me off. This problem is apparently sorted but I don't gamble on things that aren't reliable in the first place! H. O cumon man there not that bad at all, I got mine on 1st day it came out and it latest till august this year when it finaly conked out on me but now I have a brand new 1 and have been guaranteed it won't go wrong. Was a clip holding the board that was the problem, under xtreme heat it melted and the thingy chip thing detached from it as board warps so microsoft have told me!! Tis well worth it, cheaper, just as good, a lot more games and live can't be beat. Tis the choice for me
