grahamc
I drove a vauxhall one... for 3 days, while moving... quite fun, felt on top of the world
Blackie
i drove a 3.5 turbo (i think) merc sprinter to manchester, they go like a rocket. 110mph at some points (on a private track)
dwayne
ford transit with the higher level roof not the lower one that scalps you every time you stand up in the back. tough and reliable. also good for drift practice at the local pit! Shadow Beast
oh, and good luck with the new business thanks, so i might have to look at the medium roof height one then in the transit. i suppose that nowadays there is more or less a van to suit every different type of purpose, going to look for a silver one i think so i am not just another white van man. dwayne
definatley do not get any van with a low roof height. one of my employees had to have stitches because of a low roof. and theres nothing worse than spending 20 minutes looking for a tool hunched over in the back of your van! merckx
I've got a Peugeot Boxer LWB high roof - 2.8HDI I can't fault it at all, great driving position and really nice to drive. It's wider than the Transit and Mercedes Sprinter. If you're after a 04/05 van you'll find that all of the major manufactures make good reliable vehicles just like they do with cars nowadays. The later model transits have the TDCI engine, similar to the ones that they use in the Mondeo's - a really nice engine.
gordy07
Im an electrician too drive a 54 plate vauxhall combo 1.7cdti which is nippy and cheap to run but doesnt hold much more than tools and drills etc before that i had a 53 vauxhall vivaro 1.9 dti 6speed which was really nice to drive too although the gears are really short 1st is completely useless only does about 10mph both vans are good but the vivaro is much more suitable for the work. The new transits are supposed to be good too but ive not driven one yet:)
Shadow Beast
cheers, i was looking at the combo side of things a while back, trying to get a van to fill a few different rolls, ie work and a bit of passenger stuff if needed, but i think now that a straight forward panel van is going to be the way to go, i do like the vivaro in the spotive trim but depends if i can get them at the right price. I have been told that the transit models are always about a year ahead in the trim stakes and the rest follow suit about a year down the line. tomorrow i am going to go to our local car shop warehouse, drove past there tonight and they pretty well have one of each so i will give them a story and look at them all. you say your is just tools, do you also have a running stock of small bits in there as well? or will that be pushing it with room? richie

merckx
Ford will be doing a Transit with a 3.2-litre TDCi powerplant with 200 BHP! I bet that's nice to drive with 347 lb/ft on tap from 1,700rpm to 2,500rpm. I use the van a heck of a lot more than the Supra.

gordy07
i say tools mate but to be honest ive got material for about 4 jobs in there(cable, boxes, main boards, sockets, etc, etc)the combo will hold the stuff but the problem is when you go to find it because everything ends up just piled up well it does in my van anyway but it is a great van and almost car like in perfomance well it is as quick as most small cars good for 120mph(on a track)apparently and very economical
