  1. Thanks supna, I'll give it a go tomorrow. There are no fault codes on the car, but the car has been standing around for a while, so I suppose I can't expect it to be perfect Thanks to you both, Patters
  2. Hi to all, Having some problems with the idling of my car, when cold it doesn't like to rev very high. Also when coming to a stop the car nearly stalls, and to make matters worst it doesn't like starting up either Can anyone help? Thought it could be the idle control valve or throttle positon sensor. Any ideas?? Cheers Patters
  3. Supra_Al, Your PM box is full so I couldn't post you my message on the details of what happened to my car. So I've E-mailed you............. i think. Basically, I posted the problem, which I had with the engine on this BBS at Christmas. I was getting a strange knocking noise that was worrying me. The chaps said to get it booked in to a garage as soon as possible. So I did, and the mechanic diagnosed that the BIG ENDS were knackered So the jobs being done now, but the company thats supplying the engine is taking the mick, so I'm looking elsewhere. I think the previous owner of my car didn't take care of it much, so I'm suffering cos of it Patters
  4. Thanks lads, Thats okay then I'll order an engine without an EGR then. Once again you have answered my question and more. Cheers Patters
  5. As above does the N/A engine have an EGR?? Whatever that is I'm basically having an engine change, which a local mechanic is doing for me. We've ordered an engine from an engine supplier, who is situated in the same village as my mechanic, but they are messing us around, so I'm trying to source an engine elsewhere. A company who might be able to get an N/A engine says that theres two makes of N/A engine, one with EGR and one without. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks, Patters
  6. I have had the same problem with my Supra, although its only a NA engine. The big ends have gone on mine, due to the previous owner neglecting it. The mechanic who's sorting my engine out reckons that buying the parts for the engine is very expensive and labour intensive. So he got me a used engine with 30,000 miles on it for £700, from a company that imports the engines from Japan's scrapyards. All in all its costing me around £1500, which is better than I expected. 7. Yep, already done, I've had the rocker box covers off. No visual damage. Hmmm...... how confusing Patters
  8. Also before I forget, having the cam cover off while running the engine, I noticed that the right handside cam ( The one which the noise is coming from), looks like its buckled, its not running straight, like the cam on the left handside, if you know what I mean. Thats why I thought it could be a bearing or something. Patters
  9. Hmmm...... thats interesting, the noise is definately coming from the right side cam. Revving the car upto 3000rpm, the noise is like a knocking definately from the cam, then dropping down to idle the noise is a intermittent kinda crunching noise. Like there is a cracked bearing. I've had my ear right by it. Chris is there anything else you think it could be? I just want to have a basic idea of what it could be, so the garage can't blag me.......... it being just after Christmas and that! Cheers Patters
  10. Thanks for your views, its going straight into my local garage when its open again. I'm hoping its a straight forward job, otherwise the bank manager is going to be after me! Thanks again, Patters
  11. I've used Shell Optimax for a good year now. I've discovered the problem, it is one of the bearings in the cams. I can hear it every couple of seconds, when the engine is at idle. Could it be a DIY job? or is it too dangerous to start messing with? Anyone had this problem before? Patters
  12. Hi, Merry Christmas to all........... I've got a strange noise coming from the top of the engine block. I noticed it a couple of months ago, but it seems to slowly getting worse. Its a knocking sound between 2500-3000ish rpm then through 5000+ rpm. It sounds as though theres not enough oil getting to the top of the engine. Could it be the bearings on the cams? Is it a big job? Thanks in advance. Patters
  13. Thats a very good point. I'm going to have a look into that when I next get my car serviced. Toyota always seem to make a big thing about my car being an import.
  14. Well, its a good all-rounder. Feels better at bottom and top end, I would recommend you to get one. I'm the loudest car around town at the moment, the rice boys think I'm a god:D
  15. Yeap, its the proper Hks Hiper. I ordered it from Graham Goode, I was quite impressed with there customer service, they had to order it from Japan, all in all it took 5 days! Sounds flippin loud though!
  16. I'm running on Optimax, but I had the same problems with my MR2, thats why I'm wondering. And I can't be arsed with my local Toyota, they always seem to order me in the wrong parts or there faulty:mad:
  17. So I can say, go down to my local Halfords and pick up a set of spark plugs and an oil filter for the IS300 or GS300? I just wanted to know because the last set of platinium spark plugs from Toyota were crap! They only lasted a couple of thousand miles, now there mis-firing! And correct me if I'm wrong but the platinium plugs hold the heat alot which can cause knocking?
  18. Alright people, Just a quick question. Does the Supra engine (2JZ-GE), have the same engine in as any of the Lexus models. I've been told that GS300 and the IS 300 have the same as the Supra. Cheers Patters
  19. Thanks Martin, I'll have a go tomorrow, and mail back with my results. Cheers Patters
  20. Hi Folks (again!) While I've got your attention, need some more advice. I've been having problems with my front suspension. At first I thought it could be the wishbones, checked all the bushes, they all seem ok. Got me brother to hang out the window a few days back while going over some speed humps, and he reckons its coming from the top of the suspension. Could it be bump stops? Or maybe the dampers? Any thoughts? Cheers Patters
  21. Thanks for the advice, sounds easy enough to do it myself. Some more pennies saved from Mr T!!
  22. Hi Folks, Having this week off work I decided to find out which part of the car was dropping oil on my driveway. On a closer inspection and taking the shield underneath the engine bay off, I discovered that the sump gasket was leaking oil out the one side! What kind of repair bill can I be expecting? Its just that I notice that there a huge cross member bar stopping you from dropping the sump! Will the engine need lifting? Thanks Patters By the way its a N/A engine.
