Under the current NHS contract terms the cost of an extraction and root canal treatment is exactly the same as the both fall in band 2 treatment. There are currently three main bands of treatment and charges in the NHS:Band 1 -Includes a checkup and clean and polish and any diagnostic procedures like xrays. This costs £15.50.Then we have Band 2.This may include your checkup if it was due,as many xrays as necessary, all extractions as necessary, all fillings as necessary, all root canal treatments as necessary and if needed a clean and polish, all inclusive. This cost only £42 and a few pence. When you have this treatment finished and you need any treatment in the same band,ie band 2 this should be done free of charge if you need this further treatment within two months of the previous course. The top band is band3.This covers dentures, bridges, crowns, veneers etc.The charge for this band is £189.For this fee you may get as many items under band 3 as necessary, but also covers the lower band 2 treatment. The two month period for any further treatment also applies and there normally is a free replacement period of 12 months for any NHS treatment done, but this excludes veneers and dentures. However, there is a charge of £15.50 which can be levied for any emergency appointment to the dentist. This charge is not affected by any of the terms mentioned above.Sorry for the long post, but I thought this would be of help to members...and yes,I am another gob doctor:p
