rant Having a dispute with the local police...
Suprasteve replied to Suprasteve's topic in Off Topic
thats what we thought too. We have tried contacting the local station as well but get transferred from pillar to post - you know how it is. When finally get through to someone we asked for their warrent number (for our records) but they refused to give it out and actually hung up the phone. We also went into the station to speak face to face but again was told there is nobody about to talk to us. I have the upmost respect for the police and if it is explained to me exactly why it is illegal to park there then i will stop parking there but at the moment i feel that (as you have all said) it appears that someone/people are acting outside the law to get their own way. I'll keep you posted... -
Hi people, Just after some opinions please. I work in a town centre where parking is almost impossible (like most town centres these days). My colleagues and I have been parking in the same place for almost a year without an issue, there are always empty spaces for more cars if necessary and it is not causing a nuisance to anyone but recently we have been targeted by the police. The road we park down is a private road that provides access to aprox 20 houses in a cul de sac, the road runs behind a police station and is (supposedly) owned by the police. - This is questionable as the 20 odd houses were originally police houses but have been sold off to private owners. Anyways, a few weeks ago i got my first letter under my window wiper written on blank paper (without signature) stating this is a private road and only to be used by police staff. Then later on similar letters but on police letter headed paper, then more signed (but pp'd) by the chief commander at a head office in a different town. We called their head office to discuss with the commander but he was unavailable to comment, however the desk sergeant did confirm they were unaware of the letters and said the road was not owned by the police !? The letters have progressed, they now state that our cars are a terrorist threat and may be removed ! Now one of my colleagues has received a letter sent to his home (must have got his address from the DVLA?) stating his car is blocking the access to utilities vehicles? - this is complete rubbish as if thats the case then nobody should be allowed to park there INCLUDING the civilian police staff ?!??! but theres loads of room to get passed, I’ve seen rubbish collection lorries go down then no problem. There are no signposts, no gates, no yellow lines to say we can't park there. There is so much inconsistency with their letters and reasons we believe they are just using their authority to scare people off parking there in order to acquire the spaces for their own staff. Your opinions please... Thanks

Has anyone ever converted their TT to LPG ?
Suprasteve replied to Suprasteve's topic in mkiv Technical
Taken from the website i posted in the opening thread .. "The gas tank is obviously the largest component in an Autogas conversion and is therefore the most difficult to place. Most tanks simply fit in the spare wheel compartment, in place of the spare wheel. If preferred customers can choose a larger tanks. Greenfuel supply Tyre Weld, a first-aid liquid puncture repair kit which is faster, easier and safer than changing wheels." makes sense, the supra boot is practically useless anyways.. It just seems too good to be true, if there is no cons only pros why aren't all new cars being made with this - even if its not the primary fuel system, at least as a secondary/back up system. If you can increase the mileage by say 40% per £1 compared to pertol then wouldn't they sell like hot cakes ? The only car manufactory i found that give this as an option is Subaru (also note the last comment too)... Subaru announced that it will offer the LPG option for the Forester, Legacy and Outback models. The Subaru Forester equipped with the 2.0 liter engine is now available with a free LPG dual-fuel conversion worth over 1,900 pounds including VAT. For the Subaru Legacy and the Subaru Outback powered by the 2.5 liter engine the LPG conversion is available at 1,973 pounds including VAT. Subaru Press Release: MAJOR LPG INITIATIVE FROM SUBARU Subaru has launched a major LPG initiative on selected Forester, Legacy and Outback models, offering customers significant savings in the war against increasing fuel prices and running costs. All new Forester 2.0 litre models are now available with a free LPG dual-fuel conversion worth over £1,900 including VAT, plus three years’ free servicing valued at a further £770. This not only allows the Forester to run on LPG which is approximately half the price of petrol but greatly extends the total range between fill-ups. By running on a full tank of LPG the driver can expect a fuel cost saving of around 40 per cent. In addition, LPG conversions are also now available on all Legacy and Outback 2.5 litre models – both manual and automatic – at a cost of £1,973 including VAT. And like the Forester, this enables owners to not only reduce fuel costs but they can also be registered for London Congestion Zone exemption, saving £8 per day. -
Has anyone ever converted their TT to LPG ?
Suprasteve replied to Suprasteve's topic in mkiv Technical
cool. please explain the difference before and after the conversion. i.e. performance, mpg etc.. do you get the same mpg its just that a full take would cost less or do you actually get more miles from a full tank ? cos as DannyW says if the current price of 40 odd pence increases to the same as unleaded there would be no gain from this financially ? -

i thought it would get that reaction too but if you can run a Koenigsegg on LPG then surely a standard Toyota engine would be fine ? -
researching this for my 4 door daily runabout but out of curiosity i typed in supra and to my surprise according to ... http://www.greenfuel.org.uk/ they can convert a supra TT (not sure about Jap as i assume they refer to UK spec) I've roughly worked out if you're getting 20 MPG now, after the convertion you'd be getting aprox 33 MPG. Also based on 12,000 pa thats a saving of £1,279 pa so in less than 18 months it pays for itself. Anyone any experience with LPG quote... "The performance and operational characteristics of autogas vehicles compare very favourably with other alternative automobile fuels. LPG has a higher octane rating than petrol so converted spark-ignition engines tend to run more smoothly. This reduces engine wear and maintenance requirements, including less frequent spark plug and oil changes. Autogas exhibits less soot formation than both petrol and diesel, reducing abrasion and chemical degradation of the engine oil. In addition, autogas does not dilute the lubricating film on the cylinder wall, which is a particular problem with petrol engines in cold starts. The higher octane of LPG also allows higher compression ratio, which can deliver increased engine-power output and better thermal efficiency, thus reducing fuel consumption and emissions. With the latest generation of autogas-fuel systems, acceleration and top speed are comparable to petrol or diesel."

the front looks a little like 350Z and the rear an Exige or even a corvette ? not sure if i like the look of it ?

what do you normally have for lunch at work?
Suprasteve replied to KimberleyAnn's topic in Off Topic
chocolate muffin for a 10 o'clock snack then for lunch... a sandwich (sometime 2) crisps coke and i wonder why i've put on weight lately -
i don't speak for everyone but i'll work harder with my spelling and grammar. edit: just read the above thread - it took me a while to reply as i had to proof read it 3 times before i sent it
-
not sure i follow you Jake, i have not linked anything to TBourner and/or accused anyone in particular (i have not stated anyones names) ? Also how have i "completely lost interest in the thread when asked to back it up" when i did actually back it up:blink: i don't spell incorrectly because i can be arsed to write it down correct, i simply can't spell that well. Yes i could use a spell checker or look in the dictionary but sometimes its too time consuming and the moment has passed? Why are you taking this personally and replying with an aggressive tone ?
-
no just because someone can't spell does not mean what they are saying is rubbish. if someone has a stutter are they talking rubbish ?
-
Sorry i didn't make a note of them first time round but next time it happens i'll PM you a link. This is not exactly what i mean but you get the point... http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=97784&highlight=spelling+grammar http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=125059&highlight=spelling+grammar http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=129976&highlight=spelling (4th post down)

I totally agree with this. If you were having an open conversation and said something incorrectly nobody would interrupt to make a point of how poor your English is - its just bloody rude, so why pick up on someone’s spelling/grammar when written down. Is it because that person feels brave knowing they are safe hiding behind their internet connection?
-
obviously doesn't apply to all and Michael you're not one of the culprits. Many times i've seen it where a newbie has joined the site and introduced themselves to the group but because their spelling is not correct they get the piss taken out of them. It co-incidently seems to be the members with very high thread counts that do the piss taking. its just something i have observed thats all and may be i'm looking into it too much.
-
so what !?!? they can't spell to a high standard, does it really matter ? I'm sure they have other skills better than people who can spell well. I feel very strongly about this as I've always struggled with spelling and theres nothing more degrading than having someone tell you that in front of others.
-
Christ sake, its only a car forum ! does it really matter if all the commas and full stops are in the right place. It does annoy me when some certain members with high thread counts (who by the way must spend the best part of there day on forums hence reading and writing a lot compared to say people who don't have access to a computer 24/7 or simply don't need/get the time to read and write everyday due to their type of job and therefore may be a little rusty), get singled out and made to look stupid just because they are not of a high standard. May be we should have a mathematics competition?, I bet that would show a lot of the "people must be a chav because they can't spell Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanokoniosis" ???

thats a wealth of knowledge and should be put in the techy section.

This is my Supra, there are many like it but this one is mine

depends on which type they are. They generally will be different from when the car is running less boost. Refer to Alex's thread on Spark Plugs for some options... http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=41927

Theres an ongoing argument stating that the original Toyota SMIC is perfectly sufficent (assuming in good condition) for a BPU car and no performance is gained by fitting a FMIC. So you could say you are fully BPU.
-
No don't think so, if the SMIC was old and knackered then it would affect the boost and performance would reduced as the turbos got hotter and hotter. From cold the car would perform fine especially in the cold weather. Also I really don't think a knackered SMIC would cause the car to "start shaking and juddering and doesnt go past 5k" this definately sounds for like a miss fire, fuel and or Electrical problem to me. but then what do i know ? just my 2ps worth
