  1. The MOT as far as tyres are concerned used to be 1.6mm across the center 3/4 of the tyre. The girlfiriend has just been told by one the national chain rippoffs, (no names!) that it is now 1.6mm accross the whole width of the tyre. Does any one know if this has changed ? cheers Neil.
  2. For the mods you have and are doing, I wouldnt have thought the fuel pump needs up rating. remember the UK spec is higher capacity than J spec standard. cheers Neil.
  3. ahhhemmmm Only for you J spec people. peasants! Your UK betters got the lot as standard Cheers Neil.
  4. we trust you can extend this offer to the group?? :D cheers Neil.
  5. something to do with the air intake via the intercooler I seem to remembr, not sure of the exact detail though.
  6. Phone Toyota GB (they have a customer complaint dept) . - They take this kind of thing VERY seriousley - Must be the japanses ethos or work culture or something. I had a problem a few years ago with a well known dealership in the Northwest. Within 24 hours later I had the general manager of the dealership on the phone appologising and offering to put things right. cheers Neil.
  7. £210 is fairly typical "A" service for a MKIV. What you have to watch for is the "add ons" that they will claim it needed and are not covered in the so called fixed price. ...but they usually give it a nice wash as well ! Cheers Neil.
  8. Since it's UK dont forget the two bolts to fasten the lamda sensor to the boss plate. - don't let it take the weight of the down pipe !!! When you do take it for it's MOT, make sure the examiner gets the engine b****d hot !!!".... otherwise it may not get within the emmision limits. (see previous posts on UK spec emmissions and MOT's) cheers Neil.
  9. True and if you can afford it then do but a rather puristic approach me thinks. The work rate of the rear calipers is much smaller than the front especially in a car like the supra where the bias has deliberatley been engineered to the front to prevent rear wheel lock up and the back end flipping round. - helps out the noddy drivers Cheers Neil.
  10. Stock pads must be at least more than half that price Around £55 per axle. (approx 110 full car (me genius)) + fitting of course I too have some of CW pads all round (intermediates). - my evaluations are still on going. Cheers Neil.
  11. Not sure on the price of J-spec OEM pads but UK OEM pads are just £55+vat a set. I never had any problems with them but of course that doesnt mean they couldnt be improved ! cheers Neil.
  12. Ok I have clearly been on another planet for the past umpteen years. What the hell was GIS2?? cheers Neil.
  13. If UK spec pre 95 then Toyotas schedule is A B A C ...every 6000 miles or 6 months Mid 95 they changed this to A A B every 9000 (or 12 months) with an interim oil change every 4500 Cheers Neil
  14. gotta agree with John, maybe it's a "UK" Stock turbo thing. I run two settings, 18PSI and 21 PSI, I notice a real difference between the two. cheers Neil
  15. or so you'd think. Just every so often they surprise you. I was quoted £190 a couple of months ago but that included fitting as well. cheers Neil.
  16. Mmmmm not quite sure about the "easily" bit. Mine came in damn close (see previous post on UK spec / MOT Emmisions for full data) Cheers Neil.
  17. Well, the good news is, it passed ! but only just. The tester said it was "just" inside the legal emmisions. Here are the numbers for you to compare yours against. First Test - Fast idle 2400 rpm (Engine cool) CO % .70 (fail) HC 69 ppm (pass) lambda 1 (pass) Second test - Fast Idle 2400 rpm (Engine hot) CO % .29 (pass) limit is apparently 0.3% HC 35 ppm (pass) Lambda 0.99 (pass) Natural Idle (engine hot) CO % 0.04 (pass) Cheers Neil.
  18. Cheers, I'll let you know how it goes on Friday! Why do MOT's always make me feel sooooo nervous ! Neil
  19. As a UK spec, mine will obviously be tested as a car with cats. Does anyone know/have experience of if I need to put both cats back on, or will I get away with just putting one back on in order to squeeze in the emmission regulations ? cheers Neil.
  20. I can concurr. It is only ilegal if it is within the swept area of the wipers. Before anyone starts, I know , I know, what if you put smaller/bigger blades on etc etc ...... cheers Neil.
  21. Always start with the basics before assuming the worst ! I would change your spark plugs first. If you are running higher boost, plugs are often the first to show any signs of weakness. Mine would eat standard plugs for breakfast until I I fitted HKS Irridiums - no problems at all since then. cheers Neil:thumbs:
  22. The overboost will occasionally happen...its impossible to iron out all spikes. Once the unit has gone into self learn mode (denoted by "***" in the boost settings screen, the unit will iron out most problems it's self. To be honest the only used I have found for playing with start duty, is to give a better kick (short periods of time) in low gears above that preset for the normal boost level. cheers Neil.
  23. The only oil consumption is what I would consider normal ie about half a litre every 5 or 6k miles. The blue smoke in the morning isnt a huge cloud just whispers, but noticeable non the less. I guess its just the symptoms of problems beginning rather than a full blown (pardon the pun) failure. By Supe has done just under 100k miles btw. cheers Neil.
  24. The scramble function needs to be connected to a momentary switch (not supplied with the AVCR). Through the menu system you can then set up a boost level for a given amount of time (up to a max of 30 seconds I think). The idea being that you set the scramble to a higher level for small durations (say overtaking) without the damage of running it at high boost at all times. Similar I guess to the way Nos is used but not as dramatic. cheers Neil.
  25. definately not steam ! Valve stem seals ties in with my thinking. But wasnt sure if the same theory (ie when cold over night the oil can seep past the seals) also applied to the turob oil seals. cheers Neil.
