Breakdown Cover for vehicles over 15 years old!
Safely Insured replied to Safely Insured's topic in Insurance
At this stage, this breakdown cover in Europe is not available - however I am working on this and will help if I can evidence a demand for it. I'll certainly put some pressure on the provider to extend the cover but you'll have to bear with me for this extension. Best Wishes Chris - Sky -

Breakdown Cover for vehicles over 15 years old!
Safely Insured replied to Safely Insured's topic in Insurance
Yes of course. However the issue here is physically getting lowered cars onto the back of a recovery truck. There will always be some examples of vehicles that simply cannot get onto one - in which case the recovery engineer will not be able to help. I understand this to be the same with all recovery companies. Saying that, these guys are getting better and better at what they do and use newer technology on their recovery vehicles to help with this. We do have to accept that there are some extreme cars that simply cannot be helped but hopefully this will cater for most. Many thanks Chris Sky Insurance -
As part of our ongoing efforts to listen and develop new products, Sky Insurance have (finally) agreed a breakdown policy for vehicles over the age of 15 years old. As part of our promotion with our insurer partner - we can now offer this cover to existing Sky Insurance Customers for £79.95 However, this is a stand alone product and does not need to run in conjunction with your motor policy and so to Non Sky Customers we can provide this for £99.95 (The cover is available for Vans too) (Cover does not extend to Europe) Please do give us a call for details - 03303 331250 (Normal Rate number)

With regret we have been unable to reach an adequate resolution to this. You may have noticed that I have refrained from commenting directly on the situation so far because before doing so we wanted to attempt everything we could to help but sadly we have now reached a point where I must point out that like all governed industries we have rules and regulations that we must abide by and this fact is generally understood by most. The client requested that all correspondence was carried out by email. The cover that was expected (a 'loan car') was offered at the point of sale but refused. Guaranteed Hire Car cover is an optional add-on offered by most and in this particular case the client chose not to include it when asked at the beginning of the policy. The cost to add this is £24.95 per year. After our negotiations with the insurer - they understood the situation and the insurer kindly provided a car to the client for a period of up to 28 days (but no more than 28 days) - They did not have to do this at all. 28 days is a reasonable amount of time to expect a repair to be carried out within. Having not been contacted directly and placed in a position of having to react and respond to lengthy posts on both Facebook and here - I personally made attempts to source parts, contact garages locally and organise the same repair - This process took me less than a day to do so from a standing start. We then offered this as a solution to the client whom then advised the car was in the garage. Certainly no-one intimated that the car should be driven or moved. Flags gets flown because you choose to - A safe assumption to make would be that you do this for good reason - Seemingly for a long time we have met or exceeded your expectations and this is wonderful and we are very grateful. Unfortunately on this occasion we cannot provide the customer with what they expect but clearly have attempted everything we can to help. Sky will be dealing with this internally now we have commented. Many thanks Chris Sky Insurance

You can ask for me in the first instance - I know the 2jz's best here in the office - I'll dust of my sales skills and see if I can still do it! I am in and out of the office a bit with this role but if you send over an email to me then I'll give you a call at a time good for you. Same goes for the rest of you - I might not physically be able to, in which case I'll ask one of the sales team run through it - they are perfectly capable but if you guys are more comfortable talking to me then I'd be more than happy to run through it. Many thanks Chris

Thanks Abz - I completely understand how incredibly frustrating it must be at times like this for all involved. Because of my balance of insurance knowledge and passion for cars Sky asked me to run this role with the exact aim to help with this industry issue. Whilst I might not be able to change the industry as a whole I can certainly try and get Sky to stand out that little bit from the rest. Chris - Sky. BTW Guys n Gals - I will be at Suprapod (with my 350z - !?) So feel free to come and say Hi, give me some grief, clip round the ear - anything of that nature - I'll bring some packets of Haribo to appease the masses.

Thank you once again for all of the kind comments left - We are grateful. I am obviously wanting to respond to these later threads but unable to disclose too much in the way of details on here (Data Protection) - But this situation is being looked into at every level here at Sky and believe me it is our intention to resolve this in everyone's best interests. And thank you SupraChargedTT for accepting the work that Sky have done thus far. There are a number of points that have not been factored into this as I am sure you understand but I am honouring, respecting, and working really hard to resolve this. Insurance is governed by the Financial Conduct Authority and all brokers are given strict guidelines by their insurers to adhere to. Given situations that are, in their morals ethical yet do not confirm to the rules we have to work by can cause situations of conflict such as this. All brokers will at some stage had a situation like this to deal with. Some of you may have seen my introduction here, I am en EX Supra owner and for many years a member of this club - I understand this world from both parties view - My point is I am here, I am on your side and I really will do everything in my power to help but there are on occasions times when I have be an 'insurance professional' above and beyond the 'car enthusiast' that runs through my veins like you. We do have an enormous amount of people who are very happy with their cover, people who have had claims without issue and infact very few situations like this. For those of you sceptical of the insurer Markerstudy, as a broker we do have a panel of insurers so please do let this put you off contacting Sky. We are working with the client to resolve this and I aim to work this is out to the best of our ability. Many thanks Chris - Sky Insurance

^ Great price but it may be an idea to ask how they will value the Supra come claim time. Some insurers fail to recognise the higher value of the rarer models as they are set up to deal predominantly with standard UK cars.
-
That would depends if you/the car qualify for classic cover or not, an awful lot of members will not be able to get this cover.
-
Pointless changing the value unless it is an agreed valuation.
-
You're covered for road use only.. I cant see any insurers covering your free of charge for drag racing but stranger things have happened. Cheers

Close, there are Jap Import Supercharger models but mine is engine converted (Celica GT4 lump, MR2 Turbo LSD Gearbox). The one on the left in the image above runs a 3.5L 2GR Lotus Evora engine, I'll try and invite him along again
