£1560 for a couple hundred miles a year... How do you guys do it?
Safely Insured replied to Karl M N's topic in Insurance
Hi Karl, If you PM me your name, postcode, and DOB, I'll take a look at this for you. Cheers, Alex -
Sorry to hear this. I would like to investigate and report back. Can you please PM your name, postcode, and DOB? The number you called on would also be helpful. Cheers, Alex

Hi Shawn, Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you've found our service to be good over the years, as that's something that often gets ignored in the pursuit of the lowest price. I've not had a chance to look into your policy yet. And where it's true that Ogden is hitting premiums hard, that price increase seems a bit excessive. Have you had a claim or accident in the past 12 months, or made any change to your circumstances? Cheers, Alex

Thank you for taking the time to post this. We really appreciate it

Anyone here a BMW tech with knowledge of SMG issues?
Safely Insured replied to Chris Wilson's topic in Off Topic
It's not ideal but it's not something I'd hold against the E46 or BMW, because all cars have problems. And considering the M3 has surprisingly few issues, it's not something that would really bother me. Especially since a lot for sale have already had the subframe professionally repaired. Google any model of car and they all have issues.. Porsche have their IMS issue Mazda have the Rotary engine Mercedes W210s rotted like 80s Fiat's, etc There are other BMW's which have far more crippling issues than the E46 subframe! -

I disagree. The E46 M3 is actually a damn reliable car. Especially for one that runs such a high specific output and asks for nothing more than routine servicing. The points you've mentioned are the car's only real weak points. I would ditch the SMG and stick a manual in. -
I think most would agree that it's a messy job, especially if you intend on doing it on 20cm stands! it's one that you're better off paying someone else to do. Especially if you want to do a proper job (steaming cleaning first) I remember investigating it for a previous car I had, and IIRC, Bilthamber do a good undersealant if you fancy having a crack yourself. Waxoyl is also popular, but apparently stays slightly damp? Can't see how that's beneficial but seems to get decent enough reviews. Also, when you say treating the rust, I assume you mean cutting out and welding new metal in?

Cheers. Looks like it'll be an early one then.

Good Lord! You got a damn good start there. Looked like it was all over as it began!

Being 'just' a broker is hardly unusual. The vast majority of imports, modified, performance cars on the road are through brokers. Who act on behalf of the insurer.
-
Excellent. Many thanks for the feedback Westy, I fully appreciate that. I explain in another thread that insurers put pressure on brokers to increase rates, which puts us in a very unenviable position. If our customer finds an alternative rate elsewhere that matches our policy then we are permitted to attempt to match it. Not an ideal situation, but one we have to deal with. Cheers, Alex

Thank you to those who posted some feedback

Going by the content of Ric's first post, and where he posted it, I think it would be better to answer where I can and offer help if he wants it.
-
Indeed. In my comments above, I welcome Ric to PM me if he has a query, and I can assist him directly. Sky's customer service is something we take seriously. We invite honest feedback on various public platforms and do our best to keep disputes to a minimum. We are constantly training staff through audits, call monitoring, compliance checking, etc. The reason we keep a forum presence is to assist. In terms of our hold time, then you may be referring to a short period about 2 or 3 years ago when we found ourselves very, very busy and a bit understaffed in one department. We immediately rectified this. For example, our average hold time for existing customers for March was well under 2 minutes. Cheers, Alex

To address your points in order: I cannot comment on why you were not offered a classic car policy without seeing your information. So I can only assume that it wasn't available at the time. Different brokers will have different schemes and criteria, which is why you shop around to find the best deal that suits you. Like I have already mentioned above, if a customer receives a like-for-like quote at a lower price, then the broker can attempt to match it. Due to rate increases, insurer's put pressure on brokers to up the rates. But if the customer's alternative rate and policy is comparable to the one already provided, then this is reason enough to try and match said alternative rate (within reason). it isn't about 'chancing it'. This practice is not unique to Sky, at all. Excellent, then that policy suits you. For reference, we do provide a letter approving the agreed value amount. Again, I can't comment on why you did not have one without seeing your information. Cheers, Alex

We are indeed a broker, and the point you make here rings true. If a customer obtains a like-for-like policy at a lower premium, then logically we will want to match it. We will seldom knock off a large percentage as sometimes it's just not feasible, and doesn't do much to instill faith in the customer re our rating. Despite being the club insurer, we can't and have never promised to be the most competitive option for every club member. We certainly aim to try our best, and our schemes will comfortably suit most of you. Cheers, Alex

Hi all, Firstly, apologies to Ric that we were uncompetitive on this occasion. Moving to a classic car policy can often account for a drastic drop in premium. Just make sure your NCB is also accounted for, as most classic car policies don't use it and it will expire after 2 years. In terms of the fee that you mention, that's just a method for insurers/brokers to earn money. We disclose it in the cost so you can see where your money's going. I hope that doesn't patronising, I'm just keeping it straightforward. For those who are unhappy, we have consistently offered, and we continue to offer, assistance via this forum and PM. I login on a daily basis but thankfully, rarely receive a message from a disgruntled customer. If any members have an issue, we're here to help. Also, we are in fact insuring a large amount of Supra's at the moment, likely due to their increased demand and value resurgence. On that note, I would like to encourage those who've called us, or taken a policy with us, to take the time to post some feedback. Also, don't forget that premiums aren't going down, (I know this feels like a recurring theme) and the government is charging you more tax on your premiums. I appreciate this isn't the fault of your typical claim free Supra driver, but it is the reality of the situation. I'm sure you've all seen the various news articles about this. Again, if I can help at all. Feel free to drop me a PM. Cheers, Alex

Closing date is 31st March. We've done a video ourselves on a staff member's turbo'd Clio 182 (on link above). Obviously not to win, but to give an example.

Hi all, We're running another competition. One that's a bit different and requires a bit of work, but nothing too taxing You'll need to make a quick, sub 3 minute video of your modified car. You could win £500 and a video review of your car by Alex Kersten of Car Throttle, on their own YouTube page (1.5m subs) All details are here - http://www.skyinsurance.co.uk/blog/2017/02/modified-car-video-competition/ Please let me know if you've any questions, etc. Cheers, Alex

Hi All, Sky's had another year of insuring some of the most stunning, diverse, and jaw-dropping cars seen on our roads. So much so that we've got a vote going to see which one is the people's favorite. Voting ends on the 6th Jan, so take a look at the below link and place your vote. And a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year to all members of MKIV Supra. Cheers, Alex http://www.skyinsurance.co.uk/modified-car-insurance.html
