  1. It is really difficult, but it is possible. I had to change the plastic housing on one of mine as a van clipped and broke it. The hardest bit is compressing the spring on reassembly and fitting a replacement star washer thing. I used a valve spring compressor and perseverance. Good luck, Stephen

  3. this happened to me - exactly the same. And I bought a new 2nd cat O2 sensor at great expense from Australia. Before it arrived, I posted on this forum and was put right i.e. being cat overheat sensor NOT O2 sensor. Anyway, that overheat sensor seems pretty difficult to get hold of, and I have reset the probe with metal epoxy putty. Seems OK so far but only 2 months ago and not many miles.
  4. evinX that's really kind of you. Right now fairly content to leave it as it is. However, if you come across the spare one I wouldn't say no to it as I could easily splice it into the existing wiring.   5. Thanks Evinx and all others responding. Looks like the EGT sensor (89425-19505) is pretty difficult to source. Discontinued on all sites I checked. So will stick with the metal epoxy bodge for now. Good to know the bolts can come out with the right techniques though
  6. Actually, now I see it is an exhaust gas temperature sensor...or at least visually it looks to be comparing items in a Google search. Thanks guys!
  7. Thank you for all the answers. For now, I have secured and sealed it in place with Evostick metal epoxy. Obviously a bodge, but it seems to be OK for now. I ordered a replacement from eBay (automotivepartsspecialist), but after a few emails querying model etc they cancelled my order. Now one on the way from Australia (Zivor). I'm thinking, as others have said, that this isn't a critical sensor. Still not sure if it is an O2 sensor or an exhaust gas temperature sensor as Rider suggests! Anyway, no engine lights or running problems and sail through the emissions tests....
  8. Went to run an errand in my '95 NA auto import and could hear some weird noise as I drove. Stopped and found that the post cat O2 sensor was dangling by its wire and bouncing along the road surface. On inspection the centre bit of the sensor has detached from its oval mounting boss (which has largely disintegrated). I understand the post cat sensor doesn't do much so I have stuck it back into the exhaust hole with some metal epoxy putty. The old mounting boss fixings (8mm bolts) look like they will be a bit of a challenge to remove for sensor replacement so planning to keep it like that for now. Anyone else encountered this issue?   9. Bit more information....after dismantling the gear change, discovered the switch is working and searching the appropriate ECU pin. And driving, found that the MANU function was operating correctly, but with no indication on the dash. So I think either the ECU is not outfitting an indication, it's not getting to the dash, or the telltale indication isn't working.
  10. Following a year off the road having a respray, I noticed the MANU button not operating on my '93 N/A auto. I checked that the switch is providing a momentary connection to earth when depressed as I believe it should. It's non-latching and I can't quite remember if it was always that way, I believe the problem lies with the ECU. No 12 V on the feed from pin 18, hence no voltage drop when the the MANU button is pressed. Anyone else had a similar fault? Any other ideas? Stephen

  13. Thanks for the quick response Evin. That might be OK. I'll wait and see if any other offers emerge (with intact tabs). Anyway would be better than my disintegrated housing - got a little close to a passing lorry...Is it silver?

  16. Lovely looking silver supra at Cainscross roundabout in Stroud. Think the reg contained 'ECV' but can't swear to it.
  17. Just wanted to say thank you for the write ups. Started the job a couple of weekends ago, but having jacked up the car and put axle stands in I wimped out and decided to leave it to the garage. However the Toyota dealership was unsure about fitting parts not supplied by them, so I decided to have another crack today using the repairkitsuk pack. I must say I was pleasantly surprised how straightforward it was. I used wheel ramps this time to give me a bit more confidence working underneath. Everything was straightforward. Can see both bolts easily (stock NA). Used 3 12" extensions and a wobble to get on the top bolt - no issues. Changing the contacts was straightforward following the instructions. My handy tip: using a flexible extension to get the lower bolt started on re-assembly. Fitted that in loose, then the top bolt started easy. Satisfying job! Thanks to all.

  22. Nodalmighty, A massive thank you! Slotted the replacement ECU in this morning and engine light, limp mode all disappeared and I got my free-revving, silky smooth engine back (I haven't driven a TT so the N/A still seems amazing to me after 12 years...) I hadn't been expecting too much - I had no diagnostic codes so the fault could have been any of number of things and I had been resigned to swapping pieces out one by one or an expensive trip to the dealer. luckily It seems to have been the original ECU at fault... and your really helpful response has put my Supra back on the road. Can't thank you enough. Steve
