  1. There is a world of difference between an XS power build on a budget and doing a decent job on a well maintained engine without the bells and whistles. No chrome, no silicone, just the basics. Thats the point that Scott is trying to make i think.
  2. Saw the advert for this the other day, i hadnt heard anything about it. Is it the first mainstream production electric car? Any reviews?
  3. FFS just had 5 more 'any scrap' guys walk down the drive. Im trying to be polite but its wearing a little thin now. I dont really care about the alloys, if they are so hard up as to have to pinch £100 range rover wheels then good luck to them, they need it more than i do clearly! Just one less job to do to it before i sell it
  4. For the love of god dont fit the big chrome fan shroud thing. With how your bay is, the black is going to contrast well with the chrome silver, you dont want a massive sheet of chrome at the front of the bay you spent ages making the oem shroud look shiny.
  5. Exactly. And internal seals and gaskets are more maintenance whether it was single or stock TT. They get brittle and fail, its just how it is.
  6. All of these things are not 'essential' to the build, but rather may as well be done while its out. Arguably the water pump gaskets and seals will help it to be a reliable single.
  7. If you want a bling bay then its handy to do a lot of it while its in pieces. saves money in the long term to change things whilst its all stripped down. In retrospect thats where i went wrong. Instead of building the single i was trying to pretty things up far too much. This place doesnt help when all the bays are full of chrome and carbon and painted engines fresh from rebuild and mine wasnt!
  8. I think that is the key factor here.
  9. So you were at 10k as is oft quoted, but 2nd hand parts reduced it. Guess it depends on if you have time and patience or want it done tomorrow. Unless its a diff
  10. Like Scott says, a lot of that is nothing to do with actually getting it running. You are just doing jobs 'while you have it stripped' etc. Only heat wrapping, piping, wiring (injector looms) heatshield, cam shims, gaskets V bands and oil feed and return is really included.
  11. Thing is Scott, you have 2nd hand parts (new or used im not sure) but if you bide your time in the parts for sale section you could easily complete a top quality single build for less than 10k. If you pop in some cheeky offers you could do it quite a lot less than 10k in fact!
  12. Like i say, its highly likely the TV producers hand picked the worst elements of every group of Gypsy or pikey weddings for sensationalist viewing.
  13. Sorry i meant 'never had their own money so always stole'
  14. The way i see it with Pikeys - never had money, no ethical or moral code, always has been and will be like that Romany - moral and ethical codes, massive cultural side to it, years of history, but modern chavs in their element have brought that society to its knees just like the UK population in general. Watching the big fat gypsy wedding thing just made it look like they are all chavs. No class, no taste, not in keeping with the Romany history etc. Or BFGW just sensationalised it all.
  15. Granted i interchanged the words 'pikey' and 'gypsy' in my original post. Apologise for that. I take it you are Romany then? As for the rest of your post, i dont even know where to start really. You are worried what graffiti on the walls of a school toilet says? Really?! I would imagine that IF it wasnt the engineers, then it would be pikeys/irish travellers, whatever you want to call them. Also granted some people hear the word gypsy and assume pikey.
  16. I know sis, bloody pikeys wont even let me post on one of them new fangled electricky compooters [/nonPC]
  17. Parents house. Iv not seen the quote so it could be just under. Having been here throughout its been 3 days. new boiler and control system (old one was 35 years old, not combi or anything) all pipes up to the hot water tank changed, new hot water end controls, pipework throughout. Me n my dad have done a lot of work too though. Lifting floor boards to provide access in the hope they would sort it quicker so we could get warm!
  18. Just recently started out so maybe free publicity will help
  19. £4000 for a tiny boiler and 3 days work, damn right they are! I know Dont worry. Yeah, i think thats a plan.
  20. A very good mate of mine runs a company http://www.smartersecurity.co.uk/ and i shall be looking into CCTV.
  21. I must admit, if they had a dixie horn on the van id have totally let them off for stealing.
  22. It is highly likely there are decent ones. If they pinch old scrap that saves you a trip to the dump thats grand, but thats not quite the case here!
  23. To be fair, id stick with Ash at Garage 786 on a Dyno Dynamics, then you can reasonably accurately compare with SRR.
  24. Yeah i reckon you might be right. Never saw that coming, just a bit annoyed right now. Iv had a look at the 6 foot wall though and no scuff marks on it, since its the only way they could have come in it seems odd that they got wheels and tyres over that, unless they used a cover of some kind. There is also the chance that my wheels are currently in the back of a British Gas van.
