  1. Wow! This is a blast from the past! As Harrypm82 correctly surmised I don't own a Supra any more. I had to sell it in 2006 when I got a job abroad. Since then I've owned a 2007 WRX, 1999 Land Cruiser and a couple of sheds. I'm now living in Europe and driving a 2012 Alpina D3. I originally wanted to fit out my NA with RLTC as I was a bit of novice to rear wheel drive cars, but also was intending to go NA-T. I didn't fit a full ABS system, just the ABS hubs and sensors. Initially I just swapped the front hubs and used the prop shaft to get the rear wheel speed, but in the end I also swapped out the rear hubs to get four wheel speeds, which seem to improve the RLTC performance slightly. If you're planning to do this note that you also have swap out the rear drive shafts for ones with ABS teeth. Also the NA drive shafts and different to the TT ones, with the TT ones being thicker. I can't recall if they are interchangeable or not. It's a long time ago, but I'll try and help if anyone is doing this project.

I did it in two goes: First replaced the front hubs with ABS ones and used the prop shaft sensor to get the rear wheel speed. This is how RLTC is set up on 3 sensor cars like 200SX. Then I got braver and swapped out the rear hubs and drive shafts for ABS ones. This improved the response of the system and it worked really well after that. Highly recommend giving it a go!
  3. Hi Guys, I'm arrranging a stag do and we'd like to spend a day 4 wheel driving somewhere. I'd like something quite challenging (forests, hills, fords, winching, snatching, etc) and not just driving around a farmers field for an hour! There will be about 20 of us, so the organiser would need to provide a few vehicles and ideally we'd like an instructor to make sure we all make it out of the mud in time to go to the pub in the evening! Ideally looking in the Wales, Bristol, South West direction. But will travel for a good set up. Any recommendations? Thanks, Matt
  4. Sorry, I've checked my garage and I've only got one front one and one offside rear one. The cable on the rear one has been cut off about 2 inches from the sensor. I doubt it's any use to you, but you are welcome to it for free. Depends what your soldering is like!
  5. I may have a couple, I just need to check if they are front or rear sensors. I'll let you know. I’m also not sure if the connectors are the same for pre and post facelift cars.

  9. Two ABS type drive shafts from TT Auto (the shorter shaft needs a new ABS ring and clip for the CV boot) - £65 for the pair.   10. Rear Hubs (complete hub assemblies) Rear offside ABS type hub & carrier with good bearing - £60 Got a duff wheel bearing? Instead of going to the effort of replacing the bearing, swap the whole hub! Rear offside hub & carrier (non ABS) - £30 Rear nearside hub & carrier (non ABS) - £30 There is some play in the bearings of the above two, but would be perfect if your rear wheel bearings need doing; as you could have new bearings fitted in these and then swap over the whole hub. Postage is on top of these prices. Let me know if you need any more details.   11. Actually, I mis-quoted my dad a bit, I've just dug out his email. This is what we told Toyota: "The bleed valve wall thickness may be in question and should be investigated, as indeed the potential for presence of stress initiators for the cracking resultant from either the quality of material as cast, the heat treatment, and/or other material or machining flaws." It is also interesting that Toyota think that the brake warning light will help. I know they are dual circuit brakes, but I wouldn't want to rely one side only under heavy braking. There is also the possibly that this crack go undetected as a latent defect, as there is no or very little fluid loss initially. We told Toyota: "The cracking on the boss is almost completely around the whole circumference of the bleed nipple, final rupture and complete detachment of the boss would seem a distinct possibility for this item under heavy braking pressure".

  13. Glad nothing happened to you! I think that cracking around the bleed nipple may be a common occurrence on the j-spec front calipers, certainly the early ones. I’ve seen this mentioned several times on the forum before. I, myself, had two calipers crack (see pics below). One of them definitely cracked of it’s own accord without the bleed nipple having been touched. I know this because I change the pads and examined my brakes before I took my car on holiday last year and they were fine, I found them leaking when I came back. I got my dad to examine the calipers, he used to do defect and accident investigation for aircraft and is quite familiar with metallurgy issues. It was his opinion that there were probably defects in the casting, although over tightening the bleed nipple may have shown up this weakness. We actually wrote to Toyota to highlight this potential safety issue – as we didn’t believe it was an isolated incident. As you can see their reply wasn’t terribly helpful!
