  1. Sorry Paul, slight correction... unfortunately there was never a factory 1UZ manual in anything.
  2. There are a number of Aussie and American (and Thai?) options for the manual conversion. How "plug & play" they are is another matter, though. From the information on their site, the Quantum kit from the US seems to be one of the most sorted, but whether that's the case in real life, who knows?
  3. Fluid is pumped around the gearbox when the engine is running. If the car is towed (with the engine off) the gearbox is being turned by the rear wheels but the pump is not running.

  5. That's very neat. Plenty of room in the engine bay as well.
  6. The Soarer and Aristo both have one bulb for dip and another bulb for main (the Soare has separate light units). With the lights off, the flasher illuminates both dip and main beams. If it's a JDM thing, perhaps the J-spec Supra is the same? I'd owned the Soarer for 4 or 5 years before I noticed. In daylight you can't see the beams, and at night dip is on anyway.
  7. The headlamp flasher isn't a part of the MOT. I don't know about the JDM Supra, but both beams flash on the Soarer and MK1 Aristo.
  8. It's not pointless... it's just that, unless someone has actually tested an engine on an engine brake and on a rolling road, the flywheel figure is based on a guess. Has anyone ever done that for a Supra?
  9. The losses for a manual are calculated when the throttle is closed and the dyno is allowed to run to a standstill with the car in neutral. Dave Walker (Emerald ECUs) reckons that when he has had the opportunity to check calculated flywheel horsepower from a rolling road against the HP from an engine brake, the figures have been within a couple of BHP. This obviously relies on the integrity of the rolling road operator. http://www.emeraldm3d.com/rolling-road Unfortunately, you can't do the same for an auto, so any flywheel figure from a rolling road or hub dyno is guesswork.

  11. M90, M112, Lysholm, Yella Terra, Harrop, Whipple positive displacement/twin screw superchargers have all been used, as well as centrifugal blowers. As mentioned above, Bullet Cars in Australia do various levels of kit. If you have the fabrication skills, a turbo conversion may be the easiest. Swap the manifolds left to right and reversed, some pipe, a bit of welding, an integral wastegate turbo or two and you're away (some sequences have been shortened ). http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?238361-V8-Twin-Turbo-Project I'm sure you already know where to look, but you'll find a fair bit of info on the Australian Soarer forums (ALSC and Soarer Central), Lextreme, Club Lexus, v-eight.com (seems to have died and collected a lot of spam lately, unfortunately), and perhaps Toymods.
  12. They are not better than "UK" 4-piston calipers. Although the pistons are, IIRC, the same size, the discs are smaller (315mm), so they are slightly less powerful. These calipers are fitted to many Supras, Soarers, and Lexus SCs on three continents, and I haven't found any reports of problems casued by the mod.
  13. True. Some things are just wrong, and a Cobra with anything but a V8 is one of those things. One of these would be OK,though... http://www.sebringinternational.co.uk/images/tmx/tmx01.jpg
  14. I reckon the only suitable kit cars would be the Big Healey replicas (Sebring/Haldane) or maybe some of those that are in the spirit of the 1930s two seaters (NG TC, Marlin Sportster). Perhaps better to use the N/A, though... You'd definitely need something a bit heftier than a Se7en-type.
  15. According to Mocal, the best place is right up against the radiator.
  16. This is true. I'm still running the GS with my "temporary" mod.
  17. That's right. The high pressure pipes are the ones between the PS pump and the rack. The PS cooler on my GS300 rusted through and I was able to remove the pipe and loop it back to the PS reservoir as a temporary measure. One option might be a small oil cooler (perhaps from a pit bike/monkey bike?). Would just need a bracket ot two and the correct diameter connectors.
  18. Could you move the PS cooler? It's at low pressure, so normal oil hose and hose clips are fine.
  19. Ive used Mintex on my daily for years with no problems http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200765313164
  20. Mk 4 Supra TT Auto and Aristo TT are 3.769, I believe. I don't think the Mk3 and Mk4/Aristo diffs are interchangeable, though.
  21. Then, as far as the postcode is concerned, he's wrong!
  22. [devil's advocate] You can't use small letters/plates just because it's an import. All plates fitted after 31 August 2001 (IIRC) should have the postcode. If your car was first registered in the UK after 31 August 2001... [/devil's advocate]
  23. There's a huge difference between the traction control on the Soarer (like the Supra, I think) and the stability control on my '98 model GS300. After another 14 years' development, current systems must be amazing.
