  1. Yeah, that's a good call with the alarm. I had the same thought, as I had big issues with traction on Sunday morning (and this is when I found it very apparent for the first time), and I had the alarm installed on Saturday. However, I'm pretty sure I had some slippage on the way to getting the alarm fitted... I was going in convoy with the missus who was in the Scooby, and I remember putting my foot down for a little fun, but struggling to get any traction so I gave up. So, the timing is very close, but I have a feeling the problem was happening before. But I'll have a look at the connections as soon as poss.
  2. Cheers, I'll try and get the file off it. I have a backup of the file, so I can always reapply it myself, if I can get the connectivity working (which I can do when I source a laptop with a serial cable or get a USB->serial that actually works). I know it's definitely not working... I know what it feels like when it's cutting in. But the wheels are just spinning away. Where would I find the earth? Edit: I presume it just splits off where the serial connection is, so I'll look there when it's lighter.
  3. With the freeze this morning, my car refused to unlock again. At least the alarm and the remote start is working though. 15 minutes of the car running with the heater on inside certainly helped to unfreeze the lock.
  4. The DAT file was installed by Matt Harwood, a couple of years back. I would plug my laptop into it, but the USB-to-serial cable I've got wont talk to the RLTC system (even though the drivers appeared to install properly). My laptop doesn't have a serial port. Last time I interfaced with the RLTC, I borrowed an old laptop with a serial cable. But that one was an old one from work that's since been disposed of. I'll have to see if I can find an old laptop somewhere...
  5. It's only on boost. Maybe even RLTC can't handle this weather... even when relatively dry. I wish these things were easier to test. I think the tread is okay. P.S. I'll try the ABS next time I'm in the car.
  6. The last few days, if I put my foot as much as halfway down in 2nd, even on dry roads, the wheels just spin, even with the RLTC on (in wet or dry mode). Does this mean I've got issues with my RLTC?
  7. Make that 16. I had the problem too. It's all fine now. But I've also had a couple of relays added to my alarm system, as it was behaving odd anyway. For example, in good weather it would lock and unlock, but if you locked it again, it would fail to unlock. In the cold weather over Xmas, the central locking wasn't working at all.
  8. With all the snow and such, my installation day got delayed, but in the end I had it sorted yesterday. The remote start is so cool! It's like KITT. Also, the other issues have been resolved too. Some of the issues were caused by incorrect installation, which have now been resolved now. (For example, the passenger door previously did not trigger the alarm at all!) And the issue where the button would activate central locking, and unlock, but subsequently wouldn't work the central locking... this was sorted by adding a couple of relays. Also, the NiCad battery was knackered, so that's been replaced too. And I've got boot release on the remote now. Sweet...
  9. It's amazing how much you can get for these in the recycling schemes. O2 will give me £119! But this is good example, with a few extras and some bonus software, so I'm hoping it will go for a little more. Out of interest rob_boi, why would you trade an N97 back in for the N95? Isn't it as good? I was seriously considering the N97 when I got my new contract, but opted for the iPhone instead.
  10. Nokia N95 8GB (aka Nokia N95-2), for sale on Ebay... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300389902720.
  11. I've had my iPhone 3GS for two days now. I feel like I've sold my soul to Satan, as I've always hated Apple as a company and swore over ten years ago that I'd never buy one of their products. But, sadly, the iPhone really is too good to be ignored. I found the Apple restrictions to be a real PITA, especially for trivial things like changing the sounds on your phone for certain functions, or customising the Springboard. So I did the Blackra1n jailbreak this evening. Wow, it doesn't get any easier than that! As has been mentioned earlier in this thread, it is a tethered jailbreak, so a word of warning... If you install any apps that require your phone to be restarted, the phone will fail to reboot and tell you to plug it into iTunes. If you then plug into iTunes, iTunes tells you the iPhone is running in 'recovery mode' and that a restore is required. Don't panic! You just need to run Blackra1n again to restore the jailbreak and the phone will restart fine. It freaked me out the first time this happened. Why did I want to jailbreak? Well, mainly so that I could access the filesystem over FTP to allow me to further customise the phone. I have a few tips for anyone else completely new to the iPhone that wants to follow in my footsteps. What follows is everything I've learned about modding an iPhone this evening. (I'm still obviously a noob, but we all have to start somewhere!) 1. Jailbreak the phone with Blackra1n. It really is a single-click app on the PC. (No idea about the Mac version...) Obviously, the phone must be connected when you run it! 2. Run the Blackra1n app that subsequently appears on your phone. This app will allow you to install Cydia. Cydia will allow you to install apps that don't go through the iTunes route. 3. Install OpenSSH. This runs as a service on the phone, and allows you remote file system access. The easiest way is to use FTP (e.g. Filezilla), with the protocol set to SFTP. Note that to access the phone via FTP, the username is 'root', and the password is 'alpine'. (You can easily get the IP address of your phone from your router's web admin page, assuming you're using WiFi.) 4. Install MobileTerminal. This gives you console access. Even if you don't plan on doing further, you should at least install this to allow you to change the root password to something other than 'alpine', unless you want someone *else* hacking your phone. > su root (password is currently 'alpine') > passwd (enter your new password twice as prompted) 5. Install SBSettings. This allows you to quickly view various settings about your phone (e.g. IP address), but also allows you to quickly toggle features like Bluetooth or wireless. [You will need to re-run Blackra1n after installing this. So don't worry when it doesn't boot up!] 6. Install Winterboard. This is a customisation/skinning app. You can then perform simple customisations, or even make your own skin. But why bother? There are great skins available for download already. Check out Blue Thunder. It looks awesome, and it's *incredibly* easy to skin your phone. Note... all the above apps are free and installed through Cydia. Furthermore, now you've got FTP, you can change the default sounds. E.g. to change the sounds for new mail notification, or SMS notification, simply replace the following files using FTP: /System/Library/Audio/UISounds/new-mail.caf /System/Library/Audio/UISounds/sms-receivedx.caf, where x is 1 to 6 Note that you should convert/copy your own wav or mp3 files to AIF format first, which is easily done through iTunes. (Ensure Edit -> Prefs -> General -> Import is set to AIF first.) Then, just rename the files to match the ones you want to overwrite on the phone. I'd backup the originals on the phone, just in case...) Similarly, if you want to put on your own ringtones, I do it through FTP, as I find the synchronising in iTunes is p1ss-poor for ringtones. Again, identifiy the tracks you want to use, and convert/copy them to AAC in iTunes. (Ensure Edit -> Prefs -> General -> Import is set to AAC first.) Drag the new file out of iTunes onto your desktop and renaming the extension from .m4a to .m4r. Now, all you need to do is FTP your newly made ringtones into /Library/Ringtones. At a glance, it may sound more tricky that iTunes, but it really is quick once you've done it a couple of times. That's it for all the hacky stuff. As for regular apps that can be installed through iTunes or Cydia, in addition to what people have already mentioned, I would recommend: * Alarm Clock Pro - only a few pence, but it allows you to set multiple alarms on various schedules, playing from your own music/playlists, with customisable snooze and build in torch. It's very good. * Clock Radio Free - A great app that gives you access to thousands of digital radio stations... Everyone loves .977 - 'The 80s channel', right? * IM+ Lite - A free multiprotocol messenger app, so if you use Yahoo Messenger, MSN, whatever, then this is for you. * Shazam - Cool app that 'listens' to any music playing from an external source, and tells you what the track is! * TV Guide UK - obvious... * xGPS (from Cydia). Free SatNav with turn-by-turn voice instructions! It hooks into Google Maps. I haven't used it yet, but it does look very good.
  12. Bloody 'ell. That was amazing!

    Snow Chains

The type of snow... You're starting to sound like a rail company.
  14. The dog kicking at 4 minutes in was really tragic.
  15. They look awesome. Good choice fella.
  16. I'm getting my Intellistart and boot release on Saturday, plus sorting out the other issues.
  17. Full closer, one-touch control and venting? Sounds cool, but I don't know what they are! I wouldn't mind the boot-release working on the remote too. Sounds like you know your stuff.
  18. Thanks for the manual. I'll get it checked out. (I was more gutted about losing the 4-digit valet code that was attached to the manual, but I imagine a professional technician won't have any issues with not having this...) It looks like my Concept 300 also supports remote engine start (Intellistart), so I might see if I can get this installed. I like the idea of warming up the car in the mornings!
  19. Thanks for the info. I should have mentioned that the car alarm was not triggering the central locking even after the locks have warmed up sufficiently to work normally. (I've tested that several times over the last few days.) But here's something weird I forgot to mention... I was out cleaning the other car this lunch time, and while I was out there, I heard the central locking on the Supra constantly clicking, even though no one was pressing the key! Every 30 seconds or so, I heard it click. And, I've just tried the remote again now, and it works for the first time in weeks! So I really puzzled as to what is / was wrong with it!
  20. I've got a Clifford Concept 300 alarm on my Supra. When pressing the button on the key fob, it *used* to set the alarm (as indicated by the red flashing light) and lock the doors. Since this cold spell, the button no longer locks or unlocks the doors! But it does still set the alarm. I can still unlock / lock the doors with the key, but every morning for the last few weeks, the lock has been frozen and I've been unable to use the key. This morning, I actually bent the key in the lock while unlocking the car, with the result that I couldn't use it to start the car until I had straightened the key with some pliers! So now, I'm a bit stuffed as the alarm won't unlock the car, and key generally won't work in the mornings. Is it normal for Supra locks to freeze up so bad they're unusable? I haven't been able to use my key in the mornings for about 3 weeks. And this morning, when I did manage to get where I needed to go (after bending the key), when I arrived, I was unable to lock the car as the lock was too frozen for me to lock it using the key. So, I figured I'll alarm the car (which obviously has an immobiliser) and take my chances that no one tries to steal anything from inside the car. But then I find out the alarm only works if I open the car with the driver's door! The passenger door doesn't appear to trigger the alarm at all! So, in summary... * Alarm works * Central locking through Clifford alarm doesn't work any more * Locks generally frozen so I can't use the key * Passenger door opening doesn't trigger alarm. And, for the final nail in the coffin, I did have a manual for it, but I had some work done by Matt H and Mark at Phoenix a few years ago, and left the manual with them, then forgot all about it. So, no manual. Any ideas what might be wrong? Can anyone recommend someone in the Berkshire area I could take it to who won't rip me off? I'm thinking I might have to buy a new alarm system... Cheers.
  21. I got this game for Xmas, and it's not quite what I was expecting! I'm a simpleton who likes games like CoD4... where I can just shoot people. So, I've been playing this for just a couple of hours. I'm in Megaton, doing a lot of chatting, and wondering... Roughly how many hours will this game take to complete? Will it suck my life away? You all seem to think it's awesome, but if it's too much of a life-drain, maybe I should just uninstall it now, so the missus doesn't divorce me.
  22. Yeah, me too. Every Saturday, almost regular as clockwork since I was about 14! I take beta-blockers everyday (Propranolol) to keep them in check, and it seems to be helping. (The dose is much lower than would normally be taken to manage hypertension.) As previously mentioned, the 5HT agonists (triptans) are the best line of defense when you feel a migraine coming on. But you have to take them as soon as you feel the onset of the migraine. Once the migraine is full-on, no drugs seem to work (at least not for me). Usually I can tell if I'm going to get a migraine that day as soon as I wake up, and definitely by lunch time. (The headache usually starts in the afternoon.) Even before the headache arrives, I just don't feel 'right'. When I've got one coming, it often seems like my pain receptors are in overdrive... So, aches that would normally not bother me or go completely unnoticed (say, after a moderate gym session) seem really painful when I've got a migraine coming on. Anyone else get that?
