A big thank you to Paul at Miami GT. He's one extremely knowledgeable geezer who doesn't mind helping muppets like me to help themselves. My previous garage were completely befuddled by the spagetti of hoses in the Supra engine bay. Fortunately, Paul's a genius, and with a few expressions like, "hmm, they've sent this up to vent to atmosphere", my motor is now running like a dream. Very reaonsable on price too. I'll definitely be back. Anyone who's looking for a Supra specialist in and around the Berkshire area should definitely check out Miami GT.

Boost on single decat / cat-back system
Dash Rendar replied to Dash Rendar's topic in mkiv Technical
... And I found one! I took the car to Paul at Miami-GT. It turns out that the turbos had some dubious plumbing. (The previous owner had made some attempts at converting to a 'true-twin' setup, but didn't quite get it right.) Paul replumbed and now I'm running at 0.9 bar. Excellent. And I've ripped out the bleeder valve. -
Okay, thanks for the info. I'll get it checked out!

Howdy all My air conditioning has never worked since I bought the car. I'm thinking about taking it to someone to get it checked out. However, I've heard that using the air con can seriously affect fuel economy. My fuel economy is bad enough and I can live without the air con if I really have to. So, what do you think? If it only reduces economy by a small fraction, I'll probably get it checked out.

I passed a white Supra on Beech Lane. The sunlight was in my eyes, so I couldn't tell if the driver had noticed me or not (... 'cause my car is so inconspicous).

Boost on single decat / cat-back system

No, I'm not sure!!! I need to find a decent local garage! -
Boost on single decat / cat-back system

TBH, I don't know which cat was removed. When I had the car serviced, I asked the garage to tell me how many cats it had and they told me there was only one. I should have asked which one was missing. D'oh! I would remove the bleeder valve, but I don't really know what I'm doing and I'm worried about buggering up the whole thing. Too many hoses... Actually, I do have an EGT gauge... At least I have the dial, but it doesn't seem to have been connected. That's next on my list of things to get done. -
Hi guys and gals I'm sure this has probably been asked before, but it's quite tricky filtering out the irrelevent info... And I don't know much about engines!! I have a Neuspec Type R exhaust (I'm told this is a full cat-back); only a single decat. I've also got a bleeder valve which seems to confuse the hell out of the garage I've traditionally used. (I'm not sure they have enough experience to deal with a TT Supra.) Currently, I'm getting about 0.6 - 0.7 bar with both turbos online. This seems a little low. However, when my garage were fiddling with the bleeder valve, they connected it differently and it boosted up to 1.1 bar (while the valve was still fully closed). I was worried this was too high, so I had them put it back the way it was. So... My questions are these: 1) How much boost should I get from the sequential TT system with my setup? 2) How much boost is safe with a single cat still in place and no boost controller? I wish I knew what was going on under the hood!!

Was this a mkiv or an older one?

Great Way To Ruin A MKIV Supra Veilside Spoiler!!
Dash Rendar replied to SkyJawa's topic in Off Topic
Hmmm, very classy. If I parked mine in the next bay, you wouldn't be able to tell them apart. -
At your service! I was car sharing that day so left my Supe at home. The plate's for sale if you know anyone that wants it! (P.S. It's a full Veilside kit, not just the wing.)
-
Dammit. Just saw the last 2 minutes... Long enough to see a Supra jump too early, get disqualified and then lose by default to a Maestro!! That's just wrong.
-
Dammit! How do you get 160 miles out of half a tank? I'm lucky to get past 110!! And that's when I'm driving sensibly. Yes, car-sharing sucks. I only have to leave my Supe at home one day a week, but it ruins the whole day! I rely on the Supra to wake me up and get me sociable by the time I arrive at work. Without it, I arrive as an irritable git. And there's something slightly frustrating about getting a lift in a one litre Citroen AX that always joins the 329M on the fast lane of the sliproad, even though all the other vehicles are overtaking on the inside... Grrrr.

Check out ChipsAway. When I asked a similar question, these people came highly recommended from several different sources! Their workmanship is supposed to be second-to-none. On the other hand, when I recently scuffed my car, I couldn't afford to have it done professionally, so I thought I'd have a stab myself. My Supra is also Silver, and by some miracle, the Toyota silver spray paint from Halfords was a spot-on match! So I've done it myself and it looks pretty good... Still need to lacquer to get the finish to match the rest of the panel. Also, while looking for some good tips on how to do DIY paint touch ups, I came across this site. HTH

Bloody hell... I've never seen so many TLAs in one paragraph! And I don't know what most of them mean... Sorry for this pointless response! :upside:
-
Because that's how frequently we need to refill our tanks.
-
P.S. Sorry I never got the Apexi in the end Paul. I still want one, but I'm a bit short of cash so these things will have to wait a little while.

Sorry for not updating this thread. Since Suprachargedtt is suffering a similar problem, I thought it was time for an update. I'm pretty sure my problem was overfilling. Once the oil level dropped to the max on the dipstick, I haven't seen any more oil appearing (other than a light spray from the BOV). It's been running like this for a couple of months now, so I'm extremely relieved! My garage told me I'd need to get turbo #2 rebuilt. Glad I didn't...
-
I just went hunting for this picture, only to find out it was mine... And my first post in this forum! I'm 99% convinced that my oil 'river' was a result of overfilling. It was a good 1-2cm too high on the dipstick. Now it's back to the max level, I'm not seeing any more oil (other than the aforementioned light spray that one would expect from the BOV). My garage reckoned the problem was the oil seal on turbo #2. However, I wasn't seeing any blue smoke which is why I was cynical. But you are seeing blue smoke, so that's a different story... P.S. As asserted in my original thread, I know next-to-nothing about engines so feel free to ignore every comment I make.

Dude, I think you're right. But I can't drive it about like it is at the moment! I would like to spray it over now and then consider having it redone properly in the future if required (when I'm a bit more solvent). P.S. Is it your objective to use the word 'dude' in all your posts!

I'm not sure about sticking the plate to the nose. Plus, I'm trying to flog the plate that's currently on the car. If and when it sells, I'm worried that if I stick it on, it might take off some paint when I try and remove it. Also, I'm worried it might look a bit too MX5. I think I would rather put the plate under the nose, probably in front of the grill... Assuming it doesn't restrict the airflow too much.
-
And while I'm at it... I also need to get my number plate mounted somehow. I've got Veilside bumper and I'm not sure how / where to fit a plate!

Aaargh, I've scuffed my lovely Supra!! While not technical, I wasn't sure where else to post. I need some scuffing to be sprayed over on a fibreglass front bumber. The damage is minor - not structural and only surface scuffing. I want to spray it, but I don't want to spend a fortune 'cause I'm skint!! I'm sure it can be done in situ. Can anyone recommend a decent affordable body shop in the Berkshire area who could do this for me? (And the sooner the better!)

I reckon it's one of the songs from the Need for Speed Underground soundtrack, because I recognised it too.

You can't argue with hard evidence like that!
