  1. Yeah, I've heard various figures. I even heard some tuners saying it could take as much as 45 off a Supra! I was sceptical, so I picked a number on the more conservative side of what I'd been told. But you guys are talking even lower numbers. In which case my engine is just a bit poo and my lightly modded supe is way slower than stock. (Although one tuner that's driven it says it goes like a rocket. Very confused...) And I'm thinking 25% drivetrain losses on the auto might be a bit optimistic too. I'm thinking that if a completely stock J-spec dynos at around 260 at the wheels, then 20% sounds closer. But no two engines are the same and all that...
  2. Only just read this. I'm so gonna hurt you Doug. BTW, I couldn't be bothered to read through masses of posts, but I thought I'd try and simplify the maths for you. (Sorry if this has already been done.) As someone has already said, when you take 25% off the FWHP to arrive at the RWHP through drivetrain losses, the difference is *not* the same as adding 25% to the RWHP to get to FWHP. What you really need to do is add a third! Why? 25% is 0.25 right? So taking off 25% is the same as multiplying a number by 0.75. (Since 1-0.25 = 0.75.) So the inverse calculation is a division by 0.75. When you divide by 0.75, you are in fact multiplying by 1/0.75 = 1.33. This is the same as adding 33% to the original figure. Try again with a 20% drivetrain loss figure. This is the same as dividing by 0.8 (since 100% - 20% gives us a multiplication factor of 0.8). 1/0.8 = 1.25. This is the same as adding a quarter. So, in a nutshell, if we assume 25% losses for an auto, you can always convert RWHP to FWHP by DIVIDING by 0.75. So, if I take my pitiful JTuner mag result of 244bhp RWHP... Add 10% for air con (oi, not a word you lot!), that's 244 x 1.1 = 268bhp RWHP. Now I divide by 0.75... That's 268 \ 0.75 = 358bhp FWHP. Sounds about right for stock tubbies, Apexi, one cat out and a Nurspec Type R, I think.
  3. It's alright mate. A little way out for you anyway, isn't it? Glad you liked the link. If you're ever bored and fancy a techy forum for a bit, feel free to join up. I'm in desperate need for more members anyway. Your two chins? What am I missing here?
  4. Great seeing you all tonight. Sabrina is sporting lovely new wheels. James has got a new nose (for his car) and lots of bling under the bonnet. Homer's car has the prestigious no 1 spot in this month's JTuner Supra Shootout. (Don't say a word.) Hopefully we've recruited a new member (Steve) to the board. Steve currently has an NA (with nice wheels IMO), but a quick blast in Homer's TT may cause him to turn to the dark side. I've posted lots of pics on my own board and I can't be arsed to post them again, so here's a link: http://www.just2good.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=1237 Looking forward to hooking up with everyone at the airfield...
  5. Awesome! Definitely need one of those!
  6. There's an idea. I think I'm gonna get a few episodes too!
  7. suprz_rz, mine's the same as yours. Lights turn off a little while after taking the key out; no buzzer. But I've never relied on it because it confuses me a little. For example, don't think it does it if I'm only on side lights. I might have to investigate further... A buzzer would be nice.
  8. MAC address filtering is good, but MAC addresses can be spoofed. I.e. someone trying to access your router pretends to have your MAC address. Why would they bother? Dunno, but if you leave a connection open and unsecured 24-7, that's a good reason for a would-be hacker to have a go. Also, because you're not encrypting communication between your router and your wireless stations, traffic going to and from your router could easily be intercepted, e.g. by a packet analysis tool. This kind of 'sniffing' is not so easy on a wired network (especially a switched one), because you have to plug into the medium. With wireless, the medium is the air, so it's quite easy to be 'plugged in'. Not good if you're sending any data you wouldn't want anyone else to know about. (Not an issue for stuff like online banking, since HTTPS connections are encrypted anyway over 128-bit SSL.)
  9. Fraggle Rock. What is there to debate?
  10. I can't believe there are morons out there who claim to be hackers, yet don't even know the localhost loopback address. What's even more comical about him struggling to get past the target firewall - assuming that he did do this, because I find it all a bit too idiotic - is that he was presumably being blocked by his own firewall! So then he thinks, big girl has a firewall... Or is it my firewall that's blocking my attack? (I expect he wasn't thinking quite so methodically, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.) So then he turns off his own firewall! Of course, this plonker couldn't hack butter with a saw, but presumably he has some "Hacking Tool for Dummies" that does some sort of trivial net use connection or something. So he then uses it to delete his own files... Genius. Deserves everything coming to him!
  11. Not as funny as your new avatar Doug!
  12. I don't know much about engines either. But I seem to recall reading that you need a certain amount of backpressure on an N/A because this aids in 'scavenging'. If the exhaust is too free-flowing, it can be counter-productive from a performance point of view. (This doesn't apply to turbo systems under boost.) Hopefully I'm not talking complete rubbish!
  13. Sorry for you, again! The punishment does not fit the crime, but it wasn't the judge's fault. It's the system that's at fault.
  14. This evening, about 19:00. Didn't get a good look, I was too busy dashing from one place to the next and getting thoroughly lost.
  15. Don't know anything about MON and RON. Just wanted to point out that IPA is isopropyl alcohol, also known as isopropanol, technically propan-2-ol. There's no such thing as isoproponal. You can't have an aldehyde (which is what the -al bit means) group at the carbon-2 position. It's usually used for sterilising, cleaning or sometimes as a solvent. In really small quantities, I reckon it probably does!! (Sorry, I've managed to refrain from geeky posts like this for ages, but the inner demon escaped for a few seconds. I'd better get back to taking the schizo pills.)
  16. Yeah, I was feeling a bit special having a silver one... for a change!
  17. Took the car to a local garage who put in some dye and told me to come back a week later. I took it back today and they told me they've identified my slow leak. It seems my whole system is fairly rotten and they're telling me I could do with some new bits. The garage dude is gonna get some prices for me, but he also recommended I check out the forums... So please have a look at this thread if you think you might be able to help me sourcing components! Thanks!
  18. Good meeting everyone today and putting a few more faces to handles. Extremely bizarre was meeting SkyJawa for the first time and recognising him from an IT course we both attended in London about three years ago! (And remembering his name... When I'm crap with names normally?!) Good to know there's so many Supras near by. We will have to do this more often. Gav dude, you're in trouble mate!
  19. Sadly, I don't have much choice. But hopefully that will change soon. Perhaps, in the meantime, you wouldn't mind popping over and holding a big umbrella over the car for a bit? Someone needs to do something about these trees. Owning decatted, highly-tuned gas-guzzling pollution tanks isn't sufficient. If we're gonna fight back against nature, we need to do it properly and chop all the buggers down.
  20. I park my car under a really annoying tree. It keeps dropping pollen-saturated petals on my Supra. My wife thinks it's pretty. I think it's annoying. Within a day of washing the car, the bonnet looks like it's been spray-painted with a near empty can of yellow paint. Dammit. Rant over.
  21. 1.Ray 2.Terribleturner 3.Homer 4.SkyJawa 5.Eric 6.MKIVDreamer 7.TDaxGav (Maybe suprachick if I can get out to pick her up) 8.Stonkin 9. Dash Rendar However, I've got someone coming round to view the flat at 12 (in Reading), so may be a little late. I've got Gav's number so can always call if things go pear-shaped.
  22. Awesome. I've actually got Terrahawks and D&D on my CDWOW DVD list!! If I can't live in the 80s, I don't wanna live at all!!
