  1. Erm, yeah. Exactly! I like to complain. In my defence, I've never touched another car before. I think it can be tricky navigating tight spaces in car parks, especially when you can't see actually see the tow bars. You can't see them because they are obscured from view at first by the adjacent car you are reversing beside, and then later because they are lower than your rear screen's field of view. So the only way you could see one is to get out of the car and look first. You try and park nice and tight (but not too tight), and then you hear the klonk. That's why I hate them! It's a bit like those silly pillars that you sometimes get in car parks behind the spaces. If you don't know that they're there (because of other cars obscuring your view) and if they are too short to be visible in your rear view mirror, then the first thing you know about their existence is when you hit one. (Fortunately, this hasn't happened to me yet, but a friend was complaining about them at work today.)
  2. On a related note, the chromes I've taken off are going to live in a shed for a few months. They'll be subject to large variations in temperature, condensation, etc, etc. Do you think it would be wise to give them a light oil coating while they're stored? Can't see that doing any harm. Not like, ehem, Wonder Wheels!
  3. Thanks Ray. I went for 18s, based on the consensus on this board that it's a good compromise between looks and handling.
  4. Was reversing into a space in a pooly lit car park this evening. Their was a car in the space behind me. I thought there was a lot of room behind me when the car when klonk. Grrr. Got out and checked the vehicle behind me. It had a tow bar nearly a foot long poking out the back. Fortunately, I managed to reverse into it exhaust-first and (since I was going slowly) didn't do any damage. Phew. Guess I'm having better luck than James! Tow bars should be banned. And drivers with tow bar-bearing vehicles should be shot on the spot.
  5. I went for the 'leave them in the garage option'. Well, actually, my mum's garage, since I don't actually have one! I would certainly recommend this approach, having seen what a British winter can do to chrome rims. Otherwise you'll be cleaning / oiling them every other day!!
  6. I've bought my new winter rims!! A little bit over my original budget, but I'm very pleased with them! Apologies for the poor pics. I don't have much opportunity to take photos in daylight at the moment. Maybe I'll take some more on the weekend... If the car isn't once again covered in winter sludge.
  7. And yet another vote for dabs.com from me.
  8. James, sorry to hear about all your trouble. I can't add anything that hasn't already been said.
  9. I bought my Supra just over a year ago and it came with an HKS mushroom. I then stumbled across that comparative article which prompted me to switch to the Apexi. That was the first change I ever made to the car. But there is good news for any of you who want to swap from the HKS to the Apexi (or to stock filter). I managed to sell my used mushroom on Ebay for over £70!! I was clear that it had been used and had good photos which included some discolouration. It practically paid for the Apexi!!
  10. Funny advert! And so true... As for the Gilette ad... Sorry James, I've just always wanted to do that. I can now ascend to the higher realm of beings who save the world from the doom and destruction caused by careless reposts.
  11. TBH, one of the rims was in a pretty poor state when I bought the car. The previous owner used 'Wonder Wheels' which really messed up the chrome. When the winter set in, it caused more chrome to peel where the damage had already been done. The chromes can't be polished and rechroming is way too expensive. I can't remember what I was quoted, but it was obscene (and more expensive than buying a new set of wheels). The other three wheels are pretty good. http://www.darrenlester.net/images/jpg/supraMed/supra8p-M.jpg Besides, my rear tyres are pretty much on the legal limit now, so I need a new set. I figured it would be prudent to make the most of the situation and buy a set of wheels with tyres now. Well, that's my crazy thinking anyway!
  12. Still J-Specs James. Thanks for the offer, but I'll pass on this occasion. On the other hand, if you were planning to sell a ridiculously oversized spoiler....
  13. I emailed Rochford and they replied very promptly. Unfortunately, the Kyoto Shadows don't come wide enough.
  14. Those Kyoto Shadows look nice. And similar to the Kahn 2 piece again. Good find Rayman.
  15. My TrafficStar chrome rims took a heavy beating from the winter last year and I don't want them to get even worse this time round. So I need a winter set (in 18s). I really like the Kahn RS-C two piece wheel, but sadly it's out of price range. The RS-C one piece is too plain. The Fox RS7 seems like an affordable alternative that is similar to the RS-C 2-piece, but Halfrauds inform me that you can only get them in sets of four where all four are the same size. I believe that what I actually need is a pair of 8s for the front and 9.5s for the rear. (Hope that's right??) I don't really want to spend any more than 800-900, including tires. Am I asking too much? Any recommendations?
  16. Was it this one? Looks tidy. And not yet barried. Let's hope the new owner has the good sense to leave it alone! At least, unlike at BarryBoys.com, the members at this Blackpool forum seem to have more than a 10 word vocabulary and don't hurl contempt at anything better than their Novas and Corsas.
  17. I'm using LoveFilm. The speed of service varies, but I get through 3 to 4 movies a week and that's good enough for me! (In fact, I'm such a cheap-skate that I actually split the £15 monthly fee with a mate. Since we tend to like the same movies, it works out quite well! Hope I don't get thrown in jail for this confession.)
  18. I've recently moved home and was surprised to find my local Tesco (Warfield, Bracknell) selling 99 RON fuel at prices that put BP and Shell to shame. Having always been advised to avoid supermarket petrol, I came on here to see if anyone had anything to say about it. I didn't expect to find seven pages about Tesco's new fuel! Thanks for all the info guys. I'll be buying my fuel from Tesco from now on.
  19. I would be up for it, but only if I finally get the FMIC that I swapped with Gav for a set of alloy wheels. I've only been waiting 5 months...
  20. I'm quite enjoying the 'debate'. They're so hot tempered!! I am now convinced, however, that those mods are tacky and that I probably shouldn't have jumped in to resuce the poor Supra quite as eagerly as I did. Still, us Supra owners have to stick together and fight the good fight!
