Thanks Darryl. Yes, yes and yes! As you say, it's not just that it pulls much harder. It also pulls straight away, which makes a hell of a difference. I took it out for a quick spin this evening and along comes an M3. I pull him to the inside to let him pass, give him a few seconds to pull away and then gave chase. Reeled him in in no time at all... Which turned out to be just enough time to get from cruising speed up to 130 leptons. Hmmm, BPU. Everything is fair game!

So this is why you want to go single... You just can't take the competition!! I don't think I want to push it any more mate. The car is already more than a match for me. I'm gonna spend a long time getting reaquainted.

I saw it too!

I'm going to guestimate my car at about 340 at the wheels (much lower than a lot of the people that have posted in this thread), and already I don't get traction until 4th if I just slam it from very low speed. I know what you mean about driving other cars harder. I also have a Rover VVC Coupe. It's a quickish car, but only about 145bhp. That car is front wheel drive, and I can push it quite hard. If I'm giving it too much gas round a bend, it starts to oversteer and I adjust my driving accordingly. The Rover gives me that 'warning' that I'm going too hard. But the Supra is less forgiving. It seems very much an all-or-nothing experience. You blip it just a tiny bit too much, and the next thing you know you're in a drift! There's no grey area. Scary. So, on twisty roads, I can probably drive the Rover quicker around the bends than the Supra, because I feel a lot safer doing so.

I wouldn't know. It was in the car when I bought it. In fact, I heard people saying that you couldn't 'superchip' a Supra, so I started thinking that the seller had just been embellishing the modifications list to help with the sale. But then Paul actually found the superchip while fitting the FSE.

No, that comes next. I'm hoping for 450 FWHP, but I have no idea of that's a realistic target. And before anyone asks: yes, I'll turn off the aircon first!

I've been wondering, how fast is too fast? I've always considered myself a pretty good driver. I'm 27, I've got 10 years no claims and never had a scratch. I drive pretty quick most of the time. I also like to think that most of the stuff in the IAM handbook is in the back of my mind, keeping me in check. But I'm no racing driver and I know my limitations. The Supra TT is a pretty darn fast car and it took my a few months and a couple of unplanned 'drifts' before I truly had the measure of it. Now I've gone BPU with hybrids and the car is a completely different beast. It's phenomenally quick. I realise that the performance of the car is now way beyond my abilities as a driver. But this board is just full of people for whom BPU just wasn't quick enough. The list of mods beyond BPU go on and on. I wonder: can the majority of people who have such super-fast cars truly handle them? Or is it all for pub / board bragging? This isn't aimed at anyone in particular. I'm just curious.

Doug, I'm running 1.2 bar, although I think I saw the needle creep a little bit higher. I haven't yet taken the car out today to double check. As for cost, it's complicated since I had a lot of other work done at the same time. Ballpark figure would be 2K or just over for hybrids and fitting. P.S. I'll definately take you up on the that offer, Doug!!

Well, I've got to learn how to drive the bugger first! What do you when the car doesn't properly grip the road until 4th? In an auto!!! Ba-da-da-da-daaaa... I'm lovin' it.

Those MaxGT hooligans have made my car go really, really fast!! And it wont go straight anymore! As many of you may know, I've been having some substantial work on the car (all covered here). I've just completed running in the car after the engine head rebuild, and Paul has completed the final post-run-in work. I had no idea how much quicker the car would be, when I finally got to put my foot down. It's nothing short of hilarious. I picked the car up yesterday evening. Everytime I put my foot down on the motorway coming home, I couldn't help but laugh hysterically. Any onlookers would think I was mental. Turbo #2 is soooo strong now I just can't believe it. I had no idea that BPU on hybrids would be so different to the stock setup. I knew, of course, that it was quicker. But the difference is absolutely incredible. Last night I put my foot down at 80 leptons, and I kid you not, I was doing 120 in about 3 seconds. Does that sound realistic, because it scared the scrap out of me?! For anyone thinking about going BPU... Just do it! It's like having a whole new car. On steroids. And as for the raging single vs hybrids debate... I've always wanted hybrids and I'm now extremely pleased I stuck to my guns.

Wow, I had no idea this thread would get so emotive! I don't think there's any need for anyone to be at all offended if they happen to get featured in a Barry Boys thread. As I mentioned, most of the people on there just want a fight. Period. These same people all have massive chips on their shoulders and almost certainly embrace chav culture. I've seen CJ's car appear on Barry Boys. Once again, not everyone is going to like the colour (personally, I do), but that doesn't make his car a Barry mobile. There are some guidelines we should probably adhere to if planning to engage in 'debate' on the BarryBoys forum: 1) Expect abuse, regardless of your opinion 2) Be pragmatic about it. I occasionally have a look on there because I find it amusing. Debates on the mkiv board tend to be much more civilised. If you post on BarryBoys, you might as well do it tongue-in-cheek! It's like reality TV. People don't watch it for the plot line or the story. They watch it because they can't believe fellow human beings actually interact in such a horrendous fashion. I'm firmly of the belief that most people treat each other with dignity and respect. Which is why I see reality TV as not true 'reality'... Well, not that I'm used to anyway. And so it is with BarryBoys. If you want to have a civilised conversation, do it here. But if you want some inane combat with a bunch of degenerates, then pop over to BarryBoys for a bit! It's true escapism!
-
So I noticed. There's no right way to converse with those muppets. Apart from a small minority, most of the people on BarryBoys are aggressive, abusive, illiterate and spoiling for a fight. Still... It's sometimes amusing to watch from the sidelines.

Another BarryBoys thread slagging off a Supra. Belong to anyone here?

I made an expansion tank out of old gym bottle today. That either makes me a tuner or a Blue Peter presenter. Doug, didn't you know you can buy electronic guitar tuners these days? That puts you out of a job mate. Yeah, right!
-
Thanks for the tip. The bottle isn't airtight, but I've put an extra (small) hole in the lid, just to be on the safe side.
-
The blingy one was a little too pricey for me! Anyway, I've made a makeshift expansion tank out of a gym bottle, just until the replacement arrives! It seems to be working okay.
-
Thanks Paul. You have PM.
-
What car did it come from? Presumably the stock Supra one is too big to fit in there?
-
I've got this problem too. Just had a new FMIC fitted and now I have no expansion tank and no reservoir! How safe is it to drive without? Could you also send me details of this small expansion tank? Much appreciated!
-
Between 40 mins and two hours, depending on how thorough I'm feeling.
-
I think this is a wise move. These threads often get way too personal. All I can say is that Paul has done a sterling job with my car, and he's always been affable.
-
Dude, you look scary in that photo!
-
Yes, well we all know what happened then! Or perhaps I should just tip a car parking attendent to look after it for me for a few hours.
