  1. What is the world coming to? I was woken up on Thursday night at around midnight to the sound of smashing glass. When I look out the bedroom window at the road below, I can see glass all over the road. So I go down to investigate, and what do I find? Two vodka bottles have been thrown at my cars. One hit the Supra windshield, bounced and then smashed further down the road. I got lucky there! (Those Supra screens must be very tough!) The other bottle hit the back of our Scoobie, smashing the rear lights and severely denting the rear panel. That's gonna cost a lot to repair, but since my excess is pretty high, I wont be going through insurance. A neighbour came out and told me she saw three teenagers running down the road. I called it in to the police, but of course, they can't do anything without detailed descriptions. And here was me thinking I lived in a 'nice' area. My missus is now worried that this will happen again once the car is repaired. I'm obviously hoping it's a one off. Fecking chav scum.
  2. Well, I tried Vodafone first, but they were having none of it. Then I thought I'd claim on my contents insurance, but would you believe it... Mobile phones are excluded from the policy. It's like you said... It kind of makes me wonder why we bother paying for it in the first place. On the rare occasions I've ever tried to claim for anything, it's always been excluded.
  3. Well, it's occasionally very lumpy on idle. If left in gear, e.g. when waiting at the lights, the whole car seems to vibrate. I wouldn't have thought much of it (since the car goes fine), but this has really only appeared in the last couple of weeks.
  4. Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I've got a mild misfire on idle, which seems to go away under throttle. When you said 'dodgy connections', which connections did you mean? (I'm a complete idiot when it comes to engines, so I like to have idiot-proof details for passing on to my mechanic!)
  5. Well, it's been drying in the cupboard for a couple of days. It's definitely dry now, but I think it shorted, since it was turned on while being... erm... cleaned. Anyway, I've bitten the bullet and bought a new one on Ebay.
  6. My missus kindly put my jeans through the washing machine a couple of nights ago. My Nokia mobile was still in the pocket. D'oh!! It's totally dry now, but also totally dead. I thought about sending it back under warranty and saying, "It's just stopped working", but I've subsequently learned about the tell-tale indicators that are used in the phone to flag water damage. Ho hum. I didn't take out separate mobile insurance, and I'm not sure claiming on household is cost-effective. I'm-a-wondering... What's to stop me buying mobile insurance now, and then claiming in a month's time?
  7. I've got a dual display set up. Most modern graphics cards do this, so long as they're not ultra low budget. Assuming Windows OS, just go into Display Properties and click the option to 'extend your desktop' over multiple monitors. Then you can just drag windows/apps from one screen to another. I use this setup for developing. Now I'm used to it, I couldn't live without it!
  8. Oh yeah, forgot to update. Well... It was all a bit strange really. In the couple of days before going to Pheonix, the car also developed a slight misfire, but only on idle. So I got the car to Pheonix and Mark whipped the cover off the engine and promptly diagnosed that the engine breather system had been hosed incorrectly for starters. So he sorted that out, replaced a shot coil pack connector, and replaced the sparks. Then he moved the vacuum hose going to #1, as this one was kinked. And now it boosts just fine!! 1.2 bar is back! Which is really odd, because if the kinked hose to #1 was causing a problem, I would have thought #1 would have had trouble spooling. Mark suggested that the combination of these other factors, while being no major issue on their own, could have combined to result in my car being unable to switch to #2. These problems aren't black and white, are they?!
  9. Yeah, it boosts to about 0.7, and then when the revs hit 3800 and it should switch to #2, the boost drops off to about 0.3 bar. It's happening all the time now. It revs just fine... Just doesn't go anywhere fast! As for the rest of what you said... I wouldn't really know where to begin. So hopefully Pheonix will be able to sort it out on Monday.
  10. It's going to Pheonix on Monday. Hopefully they can sort it.
  11. Well, the symptoms from that link suggest it's the EGCV. But having spoken so a knowledgeable geezer (!!), I'm told the EGBV could also be causing these symptoms... Which would be good for me, because that's much easier to get to. I've had a look at the vacuum hoses around the EGBV. They're silicon hoses (the blue ones) and I can't see any splits at a glance.
  12. Yes... problem #2! So I think I need an EGCV! If anyone has one of these (that's not sticking!) that they would be willing to sell me, then please let me know.
  13. I got blown away by a Mini today. It was well embarrasing. I put my footdown and went straight up to 0.7-0.8 bar, then #2 comes on and it drops to 0.3 bar! This has been happening intermittently for a few days now. Sometimes it boosts to 1.2-1.3, but sometimes #2 just doesn't want to know. I'm told it's my VSV sticking? If that's the case, has anyone got a VSV they can sell me? I guess all you guys that have gone single wont need yours?
  14. Ah, my bad. Still, it looked like you were asking me if I was off to Dubai. Or maybe you were just suggesting I should?
  15. Really? The opening post had this title: Me off to Dubai? Noooo. Reckon you must be thinking of somebody else.
  16. Being a Scooby WRX (though not an STI) owner myself, I fear you will be disappointed with an NA Supra. It'll look the part, but the STI is a far better driving experience.
  17. Ah ha... It was my very first post in this forum and I've just found it... http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?p=338366#post338366. And it seems my original conclusion in that thread was wrong.
  18. It was a small 'river' of oil that collected below the air filter. It always looked like it was coming from the BOV, but I was never sure.
  19. So long as it's a turbo-charged pigeon.
  20. For at least a year, since I noticed the leak shortly after buying the car. I had a lot of varying advice over the year on what action I should take. A lot of people subscribe to the "if there's no smoke from the exhaust, then there's no problem with the turbos," and I was happy enough to believe it for a while. All's well that ends well, I suppose.
  21. Mine was pretty bad, once upon a time. I had my tubbies upgraded by MaxGT (who are no longer trading), and Paul was horrified by the state of my engine. He took it apart and cleaned it right up, and it seems to have been fine ever since. I have pictures of the state of the engine in the MaxGT website. I should note that they are no longer trading, and the phone numbers in the pages are fictitious. But I kept a copy of the site in case anyone was ever interested in seeing carbonised engines or the work that was done. (It also shows a nice shot with the oil cap off.) P.S. I now get my oil changed *at least* every 6K miles.
  22. Sorry guys. I posted up this advert. I came back half an hour to find three PMs, so I posted up that these were sold straight away in this thread. If I'd known they would be so popular, I would have advertised at a higher price!
  23. Sorry gaz, someone beat you to it by a couple of minutes. So, they are currently sold, pending payment. (If the other buyer changes their mind, I'll let you know.)
