Whenever I read a thread at Barry Boys, it frankly just p1sses me off. I like a laugh as much as the next guy, but there are so many ignorant, covetous, lowlife/no-life, got-nothing-to-do buttmunches on there that it makes me want to line them up and have them shot. Freedom of speech? Most of them don't deserve it. Damn... They've turned me into a bigot. Matt, have a virtual hug on me. I might have to register on BB and rain down scorn and fury later.

Just out of interest, the opening thread mentions these two as options for "BPU to Big Power": 10w40 - Motul 300V Chrono, Royal Purple Racing 41 10w50 - Silkolene Pro S If 10w40 is an option, is there any reason why SILKOLENE XTR 10W/40 is not recommended? Is it because it's semi-synthetic? The description on the Opie Oils website seems to suggest it would be okay, and it's significantly cheaper than the 10W50 Silkolene Pro S. (Less than half the price, in fact.)

Interesting what you were saying about the aftermarket clutch there Chris. Mine's got the Southbend kevlar clutch, and reverse (and sometimes first) can be a real pain to get in to. I don't have much trouble now, but it literally took me months to get the hang of it! Whenever I've had to take it to a garage, people who have to reverse it often try for a couple of minutes, then give up and ask me the trick! I've also noticed, for example, that I can't rush a change like 1st to 2nd, which is a bit surprising. I have to make sure I complete the action as two discrete (but not slow!) movements. (I really notice how bad it is after I've been driving the Scooby, which has very short, precise and effortless stick movements.) I've had the bushes changed, but I'd be interested in any other tips that might make the whole thing a bit smoother.

I used to suffer with sleep paralysis a lot a few years back. Thankfully, it's only happened to me once this year. It's the scariest thing when it does happen. It is normal for the body to be essentially paralysed (except for basic autonomic functions like breathing) while in REM sleep, but it's not normal to conscious at the same time! The first time it happened, it seemed like I was lying there for hours, completely paralysed and unable to shout or scream. And because your brain is still in a dream-like state, you start having 'waking' dreams. At least... I do. The environment you're lying / paralysed in becomes distorted, but at the same time, acceptable, because that's what dreams are like. I got visited by my grandmother (who'd been dead for a long time) in one of my SP episodes and that was frightening as hell. I used to try and throw myself violently to snap out of it, or try to scream. Sometimes this would work, and I'd suddenly find myself awake, though extremely knackered. After it had happened a few times, I did some research about it. Once I understood the symptoms, I trained myself to realise when I was suffering an SP episode, at which point it ceases to become so scary. Another tip for those who suffer with this is to try to wiggle your toes. Once you can do this, try to move your feet, and slowly recover movement along the body. Apparently, this is a fairly good way of 'unlocking' the paralysis and I'm pretty sure it worked well for me once. Oh yeah... Some researchers (if that's the right word for them!) have associated SP with out-of-body experiences. Apparently, when you're in the SP state and conscious that you are, it's a good opportunity to try and rise out of your body. Of course, you're not really, but you're in semi-control of the dreamstate, so it's a fun exercise to try! Sweet dreams all!

Well maybe this will start to drive the UK Supra prices back up then? It doesn't seem right that chavs can afford to buy these cars and then destroy them.

Just to throw in my 2p worth ('cause I find this stuff fascinating), mass and dimensions will typically go hand in hand as far as a star is concerned. A star is a massive fusion reactor, and it is the heat generated from fusion which causes the gases to expand from the centre. The massive gravitational pull from the core counterbalances the expansion, and this dictates the size. Hence a 'big' star is both larger and will have more mass. This of course assumes we're comparing stars in the same stage of their 'lifecycle'. For example, when the Sun finally kicks the bucket, it will hugely expand as the core runs out of hydrogen and starts fusing helium, causing rapid contraction of the core itself. At the same time, the outer layers will continue hydrogen fusion and will rapidly escape from the core, forming a red giant. (And this will most likely engulf the inner planets, including us!) Eventually the helium will also run out, and the star will slowly collapse to be a white dwarf, a pitiful remnant of what it once was. Now this is mind-bending stuff. I've always wondered, given that nothing (including light) can escape from the event horizon, how then can there be a gravitational field outside the event horizon? If we assume wave/particle duality, then in theory, gravitons can't escape either. But what if tachyons are actually spewed on the other side of the event horizon and then manifest themselves as other particules (e.g. gravitons) as they lose energy? Now I fear I may be talking rubbish. I always remember the opening line my quantum physics lecturer said as he walked into the lecture theatre for the first time... "Why doesn't this overhead projector spontaneously turn into an undergraduate?" Of course, the answer is so obvious it's easy to miss it, but it was an intriguing question, and I've loved the subject ever since.

Boost controllers artificially raise boost by controlling opening of the wastegate. They don't restrict boost. UK specs have a larger wastegate and dont need a restrictor ring, but they do need a boost controller to increase the boost significantly above stock levels. The J-Specs have a smaller wastegate, so the restictor ring is required to stop the boost from getting too high. As a result, the safest solution for you might be to put in a smaller restrictor ring and then use a boost controller as well. Once that's sorted, you can determine if you need bigger injectors from a dyno run, as mentioned earlier. The dyno will tell if you're going lean or not. If you are, then it might be because your injectors are maxed out. It depends how flush you are... I would advise doing these one step at a time, rather than assuming the injectors wont make the grade and spending money on them just in case. (But that's only because I'm poor!)

First off, those tubbies were not meant to be run beyond 1.2 bar... at least, that was what was advised to me. As for Ian's suggestion, presumably the easiest way to do this is to just dyno the car when it's all built and check the AFRs. If it looks like it's got lean spots, then you can think about investing in ECUs and bigger injectors. If the AFRs look fine, then it's job done.
