    Nuts!!!

Another thing to bear in mind with the Weds wheels (well, definitely the SA-70s) is that the sleeve that the nut goes into is very tight. Most places I've taken the car to don't have a socket that actually fits into the sleeve, as the sockets typically have metal that is too thick, so it won't go down sufficiently to get a good grip on the nut. It may be that buying a smaller nut may help, if that's possible...
  2. I had the consultation with UltraLase yesterday, and the outcome was very interesting. I had always thought I was short-sighted, but it turns out I was misreading my prescription all along... I'm marginally long-sighted, but not sufficiently so to make me eligible for laser surgery. However, I'm mildly astigmatic in one eye and moderately astigmatic in the other, and it's the astigmatism that is almost totally responsible for my poor eyesight and my need to wear glasses. I always knew I had astigmatism, but didn't realise it was the dominant issue. Anyway, in summary, my right eye is nearly 20:20 already, and I'm basically only wearing glasses to correct the left. I didnt' know that either! And I am eligible for surgery on the left eye to fix my astigmatism (and the minor long-sightedness would be corrected too). So, that's good news as I only have to have one eye done... So only half as long in the operating theatre (10 minutes!) and only half as much to pay... Which is still a horrendous amount of money, since I'm having UltraLase's Lasik 'Elite' surgery. I'm booked in to have it done in a couple of weeks.

    Nuts!!!

I bought the black anodised nuts. If I recall correctly, what happened was this... I bought the wheels and the nuts together, and the centre caps subsequently. When buying the centre caps, I had assumed they would cover the entire central area (i.e. including where the nuts were) and couldn't understand how this would work, as the nuts appeared too long to allow centre caps to fit over the top. I guess I must have had this conversation with Darryl, hence his recollection here. But it turned out that the centre caps are tiny and only cover the middle couple of inches or so, as shown in the pic Darryl linked to earlier. So, it wasn't an issue at all. All that said, I can't recommend Weds wheels or the anodised nuts at all. Despite looking after the wheels EXTREMELY well (i.e. washing them at least weekly with two bucket method, always using natural fibre mits, never letting any salt stay on them, and sealing them with JetSeal109 with every wash), the chrome started to flake off after just a few months. Everyone I've spoken to who knows something about wheels says it's clearly down to a substandard plating process from Weds, rather than, say, exposure to harsh conditions. The chrome plating has been slowly been surely coming off the spokes, but fortunately only on the surfaces that perpendicular to the tyre wall, so under casual scrutiny, they still look perfect. I've decided that if it gets really bad, I'll just have the wheels resprayed in black. Furthermore, the nuts started to corrode after about the same amount of time, with all the anodised black coming off them. I wouldn't really mind if the wheels had only cost a few hundred quid and if the nuts only cost £20 or so, but these wheels and nuts were FAR more expensive.
  4. My T67dbb - if anything - actually seems *less* laggy than my previous Supra running sequential twins. I'm told the dbb makes a big difference in the spool up. So, with the right turbo, I don't think there's any disadvantage!
  5. Wow, with the money I have to spend everytime my missus wants new glasses (ultra, ultra thin), I think I should bookmark this thread and comment on what a lovely Supra Dave F owns!
  6. I like these, especially the "not f...ing stupid" one.
  7. Jeeze Darryl... I'm squinting at that engine bay pick and can't spot new bolts from old ones! You must have amazing eye sight!
  8. Interesting reading. I lost count of how many users used to post up on my forum with Internet connection troubles, only to find it was down to Zone Alarm. Though some here say it used to be a cracking piece of software, as far as I can see, it seems to have done plenty of damage over at least the last five years or so! No other software firewall I've come across seems to have caused as many issues, though Norton flavours of security certainly come in a close second. P.S. You would have struggled to assign the IP address 192.168.0.256, or even 192.168.0.255. The former is simply invalid, and the latter would be the broadcast address of the subnet (assuming a 255.255.255.0 subnet mask). If anyone's interested, I've got a page explaining how the subnets and IP addresses work. It's pretty old, looks dated, but accurate. http://www.just2good.co.uk/ipAddress.php.
  9. Yeah, I'm up for this if Ryan is going, as I need a final map tweak now all my issues are sorted.
  10. I should add, my main motivation for having this done is not aesthetic. I get regular debilitating migraines, nearly one a week and usually on a Saturday. A friend of mine used to get them regularly, but since having laser eye surgery, he's never had one since! I know the chances of laser surgery getting rid of my migraines is fairly slim, but I'll take that chance, as I currently have to write-off around 50 days a year.
  11. Thanks guys. So, all in all, this looks positive! Well, UltraLase told me they go up to -9. (If all goes well for me, I'd like to get it for my wife who's -6.) From what I've been reading UltraLase are the only provider in the UK that have totally moved away from blades and use lasers in the flap-cutting process, in addition to the actual corneal restructuring. But I am very squeamish when it comes to eyes. I can't even get a contact lens in. So the whole thing scares me sh1tless!
  12. I'm thinking about getting laser eye surgery, possibly with Ultralase. Has anyone had this done?
  13. I think you win the quoting prize.
  14. No, but you can build muscle mass while burning off lipids. And, while muscle does indeed weigh more for a given volume, they also require significantly more catabolic metabolism than other tissues (even when not in use). So, the result is that someone with a lot of muscle will always burn more calories than someone of equivalent weight who is basically fat. Consequently, weight training is always an important component of any calory control diet. And, as to whether weight training leads to muscle growth or muscle loss through toning (and ultimately muscle catabolism), this really depends on the type of weight training you do. High-repetition aerobic muscle training can be very good for losing weight, and for conditioning your body to be a calory burning machine, as hinted at above. As has been mentioned several times in this thread, I think the most important thing for any new runner is to pay out for some really good running shoes designed for the terrain you plan to run. If you don't, you'll get knee pains and ITB within a year, and then you'll be very sorry!
  15. Saw a silver Supra today in Cheddar at around lunch time. It needed washing! Mine was parked up down the road... We were having a wander on foot.
  16. Not sure. I think it took a right off Western Rd, just passed Downmill Road. Can't imagine too many white Supras go down there at 0745!
  17. I saw a white Supra yesterday morning, near Downmill Road. It looked very nice! I was cycling, so I'm not expecting any reciprocal Supra spotting!
  18. Not so offensive, but I once saw an MX5 with a small format plate which read: LUV 5EX
  19. A quick interval question, so I hope it belongs in this thread... Can someone tell me the interval for the fuel filter please.
  20. Well, I do run a few miles two or three times a week, so I could probably survive it... maybe.
