Easy. Three bolts hold the headlights in, then a miriad of bolts and clips holding the bumper on - all of which came out fairly easily. If you search for 'front bumper removal', there are a few threads going into more detail.

Sorry fella can't help with the sand filter question, but we do keep tropicals and have a 6000 gallon koi pond, so do have quite a bit of filter knowledge.
