Black metallic. Not as quick as Sup, even when it was running 1.2 bar (self destruct setting) but increadibly tight and reactive to drive. Has all the oversteer fun of sup, but without the back to front nature. Has virtually no lag at all - but is miserable on fuel - and living every day with it - it's really ugly! no pride in the design of the thing - makes me laugh when people call them taxi's - it's a bit harsh on the taxi drivers!

Depends on the damage, it didn't really go bang, and sounds ok at idle. PM will be conducted to see the turbo and then a compression test. fingers crossed for him- he just got a tax bill too!!
-
That's where we got an unbiased advice to get the prob sorted. Abby sounded to smart for the own good and RB motorsport were beyond helpful and they also run a very quick R32 so I understand.

Well done that man!!

Come on boys - yopu must guess from that! not reebok, nike, remember back to the old days...

Sounds like a trainer. And when the car first came back it had a bare metal scrape on the bonnet that was not there before - and they said NOTHING! The car is immaculate - 23,000 miles! nice guys...

My Old man has a very mint '99 GTR34. Poor thing was loaded onto a flatbed today after one of the turbo's expired. He'd taken it to a tuners and they had decatted and raised the boost to 1.2. I know nothing about R34 tuning and assumed the tuner would (mentioning no names). Rod Bell (the guy who is dealing with it now NOT the original tuner) told us that, like sups, when you decat the RB26 the stock wastegates are too small and the poor girl exploded. Feel sorry for my old man... put your faith in what seems a legit tuner and find out they know less than you. Still waiting to see if there is any more damage, but it's a hefty bill on the way... At least with the help of forums like this we have have the knowledge to avoid this - you guys told me about this during one of my first posts - thank you!! He should have done the same on the GTR version.... some tuners though - something like this is basic stuff - they should know better and in my opinion are making money by ****ing up your car!

I had an all carbon dash on my last sup and liked it - the new sup is very clean inside - and I have an all carbon kit to go on but I don't have the heart to put it on - everyone I have asked says leave it be...

what to look for / tips when using your sup on a track
Mike B replied to Mike B's topic in mkiv Technical
That's sound advice, I used to race windsurfers at world class level, (a rare occupation, I know...), and the idea there was to stay at the front under all circumstances - until you explode - the guy who explodes last wins! 15 years of conditioning to overcome here - one of the reason I'm so nervous of it, and why I picked bruntingthorpe!! "IT'S NOT A CONTEST" - KEEP REPEATING.... I used to be given windsurfing kit - I have to pay for the supra!! -
I'm booked up to toe TOC track attack event at bruntingthorpe and having read the brief track car thread in the chat section it found me asking the question what should I be careful of and what should I look for. I have big brakes so that should be no issue, but did read oil coolers, power steering overheating probs,... Should I be looking at putting some more selected guages in other than the; water temp boost x 2 (one on the hks evc v7) to avoid any known problems? I don't intent to abuse the car but it will get used here more than ever, so can the more experienced members give me a checklist to get prepped...? I'm BPU++ FMIC e-manage 355 brakes '94 6sp.

TBH the car does look a little darker in real life, but it does seem lighter than the other sivers I've seen and i'm pretty sure it's never had a respray. I had the paint for the new nosecone, spoiler and rear spats matched from the lightest end of a toyota silver (there are 6 varients of silver) according to the code on the vin plate. The guy at the paint shop did laugh - he said "they've obviously had a few problems with that silver" - there were a lot of varients from the code, some lighter some darker some with tints of green....
-
Mine's lighter than the normal silver - is that quicksilver? this is a pic of it in the auction house - before it underwent surgery!;

I've just booked a place - and couldn't help but notice that no-one has, of yet, paid up! Am I missing something by sending the cash now??
-
Yup - have to agree with CG here. I owned a scooby it was safe as houses, Loved the sup, and went through the ritual of poking it with a stick (under what I thought were safe conditions), until eventually it bit me. The scooby is the labrador, but very boring and uninvolving. Bought another Sup after, and have a lot more respect but should really have got a GTR for saftey - but there is something about Sup - looks, power and respect they require, make the whole driving thing so much more involving. It's like an event every time you step in it. Family made me put a roll cage in Sup 2.

Hey Jurgen, the shot of the rear of the car - is it just me - or does the back of the car look exactly like darth vader's helmet?
-
Talk to Jurgen and see what he can get you for the same money - maybe a bit of a wait but you never know he could do a lot better - and there are some very good examples around - like mine and Rob sheffield's

When I registered my sup fresh off the boat i filled in all the dvla registration forms. When the docs came back it had changed into an avensis! they couldn't explain, so I resubmitted and they changed it after 2 months of waiting. It may be genuine...

I've done a few long runs of 350 mile plus and on motorway - sat at 70-75 totally off boost and not pushing at all - (bad traffic anyway) I've seen 33mpg out of my TT!! that's better than my runaround! My old man runs an R34 Skyline GTR and struggles to get 24 driving like a pensioner! I used to have a TT legacy (scooby) and that thing used to do 17 av!! (and was not very quick) we used to joke that it had no engine - just used to spray fuel in the exhaust and light it! Sups are awesome on fuel - but - saying that, you can destroy it down to 20 with a bashing from the second turbo....
-
It had a boost guage on the dash that was either very strange, or it was showing that the turbo only ever engaged when the engine had something to bite on - ie 3rd gear plus... it hits .7bar in 6th on the motorway, crreping up there slowly, (looks like boost creep!) but in first second and third you struggle to see it move. No boost in low gears = no boost lag - 'cos there aint none!! A non turbo sup would eat it for breakfast!

She's tucked up in the garage at the mo - huddling up to the dehumidifier - she needs a good clean and polish - although she will be ready for photos in the new year when I get those 355 brakes off your bro. Tell me when you are booking into Thor - i need to get the car re-mapped for sequential and the new intercooler - and I get boost cut in 6th - was planning to go down myself. I sat in the office when they mapped a sinkle hks kai turbine on a TT. It was quite a sound, he was getting mapped to 1.8 bar but lost compression on no6 when they hit 1.4. You'll have fun with yours - the whole building shakes - and you just sit there hoping she doesn't go bang!!
-
I deliberately didn't take him out in mine! I kept coming out with comments like - It's so civilised! - Really smooth!
-
I thought about it - tried a very sorted single in oct all set for the move, but the violence put me off - those things are vicious - and I live in the country. Right now I'm going back to sequential, (from paralell) with more pressure on the 1st turbo to smooth the change - a bloody big intercooler plus get the suspension sorted. I live in a fairly rural area - I'd have a hard time finding a big enough road for a single! They say power is addictive - maybe so - I see what's going on ina few years once I have had more time with +/- 400. - and you know what I'd saved for a single - I'm just gonna keep that cash for the next car instead. Some of your cars have been pretty brutal so far? and now you have a T88 - I hear Teeside has the longest runway in europe - you should give them a call!

A friend brought this round for me to have a look at - the new focus ST 5 cylinder (volvo) engine with quaife diff. Twin exhaust pipes make it look like a wheel barrow. http://www.ford.co.uk/ie/foc_c307/-/-/foc_st/-/3/-/ Was expecting it to go - I was told it beat scoobs and evos around a track, top speed 155 (limited)... I waited for the power to kick in, then waited some more, then a bit more, and hang on - does this thing actually go faster than my run-around? - maybe not! and the fuel computer said I was averaging 27mpg! If this thing could do 155 you would need a very long bit of road with some down hill bits! Driving TT sups - you forget just how quick our cars are. It's nice to be shown the latest and greatest just to realise what machines the sups are - it re opened my eyes. The owner was giving it large on bits of road I wouldn't dare use half throttle in the sup! I like my car!
