No Standard 440's on a Jspec. just wanted to make sure it didn't go bang with 95 ron fuel on parralell. it came with an HKS fcon when I brought it in, it wasn't running well on that!

Hi Everyone. Last year Ihad pete from Thor install an emanage to my TT 6 speed. It was mapped to 95 ron fuel on parrallel setup. This year I'm going back to sequential, and I need some very basic q's answering (I've had a look through the site and found nothing much)Please bear in mind that although I have all the accessories wired in,and the com port terminal poking out next to the seat I left the softwear at Thor ; Is there a place I can download a copy of the softwear? Is it possible for me to map it myself? is there anywhere I can learn or find a good resource where I can at least learn how to keep an eye on it from time to time...? I hear of a lot of people who use emanage themselves - how realistic is it? Thor is a good distance from me, and it's hard to get good communication, or info from them (the car still hits boost cut in 6th - and they have never explained it - I've asked them 3 times!). any info would be greatly received!

My name will be on a set too, poor drift3r gonna be a busy boy!

I bought a set of tien spings, but before I fit them over the aftermaket springs I have is there anyoneout there can give me some indication of what the ride is like? They are definately stiffer than the KYB springs that are on, yet shorter in extension. How much ground clearance are you getting? and general handling feel? I guess I'll have to try them but It's a ball ache gettingh them on and off, so just wondering if I can get some info before I get them out of their packet!

Hey Chris - did you get my mail about springs??

Any tips for getting the upper front suspension ball joint off..?

I haven't got round to doing it yet - but my mate told me (with proven experience) - put a 5lb hammer on one side of the arm (on the tapered bit), and nail the other side with another hammer and the shok pings them loose.... said it works every time! will have a go first! -
Had all my tyres filled with nitrogen last time, I was told it keeps pressure even.... they did it for free - but then fudged the balancing - nice!!

tyres hit the inner wing on bottom out - am I missing this part?
Mike B replied to Mike B's topic in mkiv Technical
I think I know what you mean - the suspension on the existing KYB springs has massive extension - but sits low. The fact that it hits the arches under normal driving conditions occasionally is not a good sign, I bought some tien sport springs but these have less extension, but may sit the car higher, and give more useful performance under compression. I need to have a trawl through their websites to see if I can get any ride height comparisons between the two. Chris - do you have a preferred spring mfr for the Sup? -

Thanks Chris, I was hoping you were going to post. Yeah I know - 19's are not your choice of prefrence - TBH I would have gone 18 if I had the info before I bought 19, for a whole load of reasons (including cost!), but having made the buy - I'm kind of stuck. They look awesome though!! You are right - the size and a stretched 30 sidewall are not ideal:( I had a feeling that rubber did something - thanks for confirming. Interestingly enough - the rears don't have rubbers and don't bottom out, still I'll order and put them back on. -

Thanks AJI, Sounds like a good backup plan. The springs I have at the moment are kyb - interesting looking things with two definate coil winds - I bought some tien to replace, but there are shorter than the original - I thought I must have had a chopped set, but now I may well put the larger KYB one back in on the new shocks. I'll get that rubber part from Toyota, fit it and if that doesn't work I'll use the fall back plan! I didn't want to go coilover as they have no extension and are dangerous on our back roads - it unweight the tyres badly, feels like you are on a fairground ride. -

saggy or not theystill shouldn't hit the top of the wheel arch. I just need to know if anyone who konws this setup can tell me if that partof the shock limits compression as a bumpstop... -

First question- I should have said. They are the same wheels and tyres as on my old sup Racing Hart - 275x30r19 rear, 235x35r19 front. Supra offset - as bought from Envy, and they never causght on my old sup and those coilovers were bloody harsh but extremely low- I had to raise it up! When I bought the car it had skyline wheels on and they caught the outer arches (don't ask!) but I am certain the wheels are perfect fit/offset. -
Sounds worse than it is, but my tyres actually hit the inner upper wheel arch on maximum compression - there seems to be no "bumpstop" to prevent the wheel from moving up into the wheel arch... My shock is not quite the same as the stock setup, most noticably I am missing the "spring bumper" in the attached image... most of the insulator is also cut away. Shocks and springs are KYB. does this spring bumper act as the bump stop/limiter? please help!

I tried that. Surprising, but even at 100 my paranoia overtook me!

I'd have to agree - I've run parralell for 6 months with Emanage and am going back to sequential - it's does some funny stuff in the middle, and I might as well have a single for all the lag. The noise is unbearable too - reallly resonates at 3-4 - that's bang on 72-85 mph in 6th - so you have to drive in 5th on the mortorway - or sit at a ton!

Yeah, I kind of guessed that - just worried if I use the devil's fork as seen in the machine mart listing; https://www.machinemart.co.uk/product.asp?p=040212980 I may damage the balljoint - then it's new arm time!! so might go back to the soft hammer approach... -

I saw that splitter - but it's just a wedge - that's going to damage the balljoint - or at least the rubber, no? and from what I can see the balljoints are part of the arms - they don't look replacable - otherwise I'd have considered doing a swap while I was in there... -
Hi Guys, Putting poly bushes in right now, I have the lower suspension ball joints off, and have put the bushes in these - they are back on the car (kept me busy for half a day) but I'm struggling to release the upper balljoints on the front- it's stuck fast! I could try heat but don't want to damage the ball joint, or lots of wd40. Any magic tips? alsocontemplatin keeping the rears as standard rubber bushes as I had it mentioned that poly can make the rears less progressive - maybe rubber on theback is better? cheers Mike

Where can I get some quality front nose cone mesh?
Mike B replied to Mike B's topic in mkiv Technical
Thanks Guys-Perfect! -
Been having a good look around and I can't find anything tasteful, anyone got any tips for some quality mesh for the nosecone (protect FMIC)? cheers!
-
Doest that mean that when the farmers spill fertilizer on the road it will explode after a bit of legitimate flamage?!
-
I mangled No 3 pipe off my Greddy FMIC, and can't get a replacement, so I'm looking to get something made to fill the missing link. I can get all the specs and create an accurate drawing but who out there can make one up at reasonable cost? any ideas?
-
Yeah - he's local to us - but he doesn't get out in it much - he's had it 4 years and done 10,000 miles!
-
Yeah - You'd thought the turner would have known - If it were my car I would have checked on the forum.. And on the same subject - Hyjacking my own post - Sup ceramic boost levels.. I run 1.1 bar with a big FMIC.. Am I right in thinking you can run 1.2 bar on Jspec turbo's without too much risk...?
