Then can you build me a unit that will maintain full boost (no overboosting please) while activated from a dash unit switch ? Purhaps with an auxillary switch to rig up to a nitros kit ? Can you build a 'kit' too ? You know just like night rider had ?

Ooops. No disrespect Pete. Post edited. (Edited by Lee Hockley at 4:27 pm on Feb. 6, 2002)

What that site actually says is that Jesus should be in your life not a Supra. Well then. Does that make me a devil worshiper ? (Edited by Lee Hockley at 12:44 pm on Feb. 6, 2002)

Gavin, I have had reservations about them too. But I am told that you can set the cut off to a higher but safe level. Then set your max boost level a little highter. What are your reservations ?

Now that it looks like that I have the overboosting sorted, I need to get the numbers input to get the best performance. Having said that, I probably will now look for a FCD and perhaps TRL VFCC one is the one to go for ? Justin, when I pop down on Saturday could you bring along a TRL VFCC and maybe a HKS FCD ? And the Valvaloine, please, 8 litres. Cheers. (Edited by Lee Hockley at 4:28 pm on Feb. 6, 2002)

Alex, thanks for the US link. I was able to track down some useful information. Last night I was able to put some of it into action and I think I have the overboosting licked. At the moment I am still not getting the performance I did when I test drove a stock Supra some months ago. Hopefully when I get all the numbers input and maybe check the hoses I might finally have a fast motor. Does anyone here have some numbers that they use for thier HKS BC ? This information would be handy.

A few friends in and about town had heard some stories, and I wouldn't want to elaborate on anything that could be construed as slanderous. But I feel that I could perhaps do it myself now. I have managed to get some more information on how to configure the EVC, but it looks like the device cannot maintain a maximum boost level. Does anybody know of another device\upgrade that can maintain a max boost ? (Edited by Lee Hockley at 2:42 pm on Feb. 5, 2002)

Not having much luck from the mkiv site, but I have managed to get some more documentation. I will give it another go the weekend. And it seems you are right, the learning mode was a waste of time. (Edited by Lee Hockley at 1:28 pm on Feb. 5, 2002)

A HKS EVCIV. The cats are still present. I have just found some more documentation, I will give it a go this weekend. (Edited by Lee Hockley at 1:26 pm on Feb. 5, 2002)

Thanks Martin, I'll check that out. Does anybody know if these BC are removeable, and if they do, does the car return to stock thus stop overboosting ?
-
I can't imagine so. Generally they are the same car, minus a few changes, but nothing as drastic as body size. The kits have been seen on both types and they make only one size. (Edited by Lee Hockley at 1:45 pm on Feb. 4, 2002)

I bet I sound like a stuck record. I tried to configure the BC this weekend and got stuck. I started the process by clearing the memory by pressing three of the four buttons while the dash unit was off. After beeping, to tell me that the operation was successfull, I pressed the two buttins to enter learning mode. 'L' displyed on the unit. I used quiet strip of road and got her up to 3rd gear without any boost and proceeded to go from 2.5k revs to 7k revs. The head unit changed to 'H'. I proceeded to do the process again and when I hit 7k revs it beeped at me to stop. Now, the unit was supposed to flash the stock boost but I must have missed it while parking up. Even though I went through the motions I was not able to maintain a boost level, because I could see the bar reading going close to 1, and had to release the boost build up with the accelerator (release slighly). Would this effect the results ? The next stages are the next problem. I dont know what to do now. From the help I receieved previously, they state I must now enter in my numbers. What are they then ? I was going to TDI to get it checked over and for a HKS FC, but I have been advised from a number of quarters not to go there. I have never had any dealings with them myself but I do not want to take the chance, so for now am looking for some help in configuring the BC and sound advice on correcting this issue. Due to this over\under boosting my friends MR2 GTS is taking the p*ss out of me at the moment. I tried to configure it this weekend, with failure, and the problem I was finding was that when going from 2.5k to 7k revs in 3rd I had to release the throttle at points in the run because it was going to overboost (1bar) and when I completed the L and H modes the stock boost registered at 0.61 ... any advice ? Ok then. So would it be safe to say that first of all I need to get the BC configured to prevent it hitting the max fuel cut limit rather than getting a FCD installed ? [ Yes, I have a boost gauge (bar) ].
-
Just after I bought the car, I posted for help with regards to my fuel cutting when going over 1 bar. I was advised to get a FCD installed and have booked her in at the end of the month. But I have just been reading that all the FCD does is prevent the cutting event and allows you to continue over boosting until ... KABOOOOM ! What's the point of that ? What I want is to maintain a level of boost that will not blow the old girl up. Is this only a matter of configuring the BC ? Does this device control the maximum amount of boost to a safe yet enjoyable level ? Since the initial incident I have not, at anytime, put my foot to the floor and have been teasing it at about 50-70% .. yet occationally overboost still ! This seems very strange to me. I must be missing something. (Edited by Lee Hockley at 3:03 pm on Jan. 31, 2002) (Edited by Lee Hockley at 3:04 pm on Jan. 31, 2002)

Did you get engine stalls before you had this engine damage ?
-
Blimey ! Well then, that's that sorted then. Cheers guys.

I also have a Clifford immobiliser. So would the general opinion be to just take a look at the current condition and if things look ok ... don't worry about it ? Like ever ?

It comes to my atttention that the J-spec requires undercealing. Does anybody recommend anyone in the South-East ? For that matter who do you recommend for servicing and MOTS too ?

Engine stalling ... variable value controler to blame ?
Lee Hockley replied to Lee Hockley's topic in mkiv Technical
O dear ! It seams to me that purhaps I should have left the unit alone. Well at least it has stopped overboosting (someone may have changed the settings, not knowing the consequences, during transit). I think this will have to be left for someone who is not a muppet at these sort of things like I am. Well I am off to TDI so I can imagine they would set the device for me. Cheers again guys ! -

Thanks Martin ! I'll check them out. Off the subject for a moment and as you are an Essex lad, I have just been given the address for speed cameras in our area : http://www.essexsafetycameras.co.uk/homeframe.html -

The drivers unit looks like this : But is it a HKS one ... can't say more than that yet. -
Engine stalling ... variable value controler to blame ?

Cheers guys ... i was thinking of popping to TDI in Barking after the meet on Saturday to book it in for a dyno test and to ask them to look to determine the current upgrades. Once I get that sorted I can plan the next series of upgrades, which will include a FCD. Hopefully they will have an operations manual for this BC ... unless there is an online manual anybody knows about ? -
Engine stalling ... variable value controler to blame ?

Last night I pressed the ALT button which swiched from what looked like a High setting to a Low one. I also turned the analoge dial anti-clockwise half way from what looks like MAX. Can I assume that I have turned down the boost ? Well the good news is that the stalling has stopped and at one point it beeped at me to (I can only guess) to slow down the pressure build up. The dial I have is in Bar not psi, but someonew tells me that 1 bar is 14 psi ... is this correct. But this is the best part ... this car is no " Monster " anymore ... it is now a " Winged Angel of Death ". This this should be in space !
