Thanks Chris ... i've sent you an email with additional details.

Thanks for you advice guys ... I phones around Toyota dealers\parts and unfortunately all come to 380 - 390 quid for two including seal kits. Looks like I am going to have to lump it and get the job done as origionally quoted ... they are a good bunch of guys, after all (Chris - yeh, good price for labour).
-
They are called Westfield motors. They used to work for Toyota and specialise in Toyota repairs. Normally they are good and reliable bunch of guys ... this price, though is hard to swallow.
-
For the moment, any parts dealer would be useful, just to get a price and go back to the garage to sort this out.
-
Do you recommend a parts supplier ?
-
Hi guys. I have just completed my first service only to be told that I have slight play in my rear wheel bearings. The quote for the repairs are : £ 163.12 plus VAT for each of the two bearings. £ 96.00 plus VAT for the labour. Total: £ 608.93 Obviously I am not too impressed in having to pay over a grand (as I need two rear tyres too). Is this a fair price for parts ?

Cheers Pete, I have something to go on.
-
I'd have to say that yes it does seem to be when the first ends and second begins. Pete, you probably remember this issue, because you noticed it after adjusting my plugs when I visited you a couple of months back. Its hard to say what the max pressure is for turbo 1 because I have only 1 gauge. I can only assume is attached to turbo 2. The reading does like you say ... 1 bar at about 4k, drop to .6 or .5 bar, raise to max 1.3 bar. Is this normal then, or should be looked into ? I am still under warrenty, thankfully.

I wonder if anybody may have any suggestions regarding a problem I have had since the beginning. Whether my boost controller is switched off or on, whilst in second gear and pushing it through the revs, at the point the boost pressure reaches 1 bar on my gauge it unexpectedly drops a few points (.4 ish) then begins the climb again. Occationally it does it in other gears. The second climb of boost pressure has more acceleration than the first, but that could be due to the revs I have reached. Anybody have any ideas ?

You might want to check with your insurance company that they insure cars with modifications, should you intend to declare them. If they dont you are looking at an invalid policy. Best of luck.
-
Ok. Graham it might not be the same problem as mine but I will explain the symptoms that occur with me, just incase. I can be in rolling start with low gears in 2nd or 3rd with low revs. Then after flooring the accelerator the boost raises too quickly hitting the fuel cut limit, approx 1 bar. Sometimes border line which gives a stuttering in power. Sometimes violent if pushed too far and the worst being when the fuel is cut completly.

I have a similar problem. Do you have a boost gauge ? If so, what is the reading ?
-
If you don't have any luck with the link provided, can you tell me what the error message actually says ?
-
I am toying with the idea of removing mine to be sent to an electrollosis company for chroming. Has anyone any ideas how\what they are supposed to be glued back on with ?

I make you right, I have been given a lot of help regarding this matter, all of it very much appreciated. I looked back on the post that you say the FC cuts in at 15psi. My problem is that if I get a FCD at the weekend, what level can I set it at so not to blow the old girl up. I'll just work it out .. cheers. What is a safe psi to run at my stock turbos ? And whats the FC limit ?
-
Thanks. I'll reconfigure my BC first this weekend, incase it is a symptom of that. Then check the lines, as you say.

By 0, I mean 0 bar, half way on my gauge. I can floor it in gears 1 and 2, and only get that amount of pressure on my gauge. Is this because my gauge is only reflecting turbo 2 ? Because when I get into gear 3 and upwards I get slow boost sometimes and too quick others (overboosting).
-
Does anybody feel surges from turbo 1 ? Wheel spin, or anything like that ? I ask because when I test drove a stock one a number of months ago, I seem to remember that I did. But my one boosts to about 0 in gears 1 and 2, but unable to get a higher rate or wheel spin.

Should anybody else need to know or for searches later I have found this useful information regarding the configuration of a HKS EVC : Functions: Setting the volume knob: Whenever you make an adjustment the settings, you may see a flashing L, turn the knob down (counter clockwise), then it will show a flashing H, turn the knob up (clockwise). Turn it back and forth as instructed until it sets itself. Mode: Allows you to change EVC settings. Hit once for Offset. 2 times for Scramble boost, amount to add to the preset boost (i.e., 0.2bar). 3 times sets the length of time for the "added" scramble boost to last (0-30sec.) 4 times for Overboost Warning Mode. (***This is very important, if it hits higher than the overboost setting, the unit will shut down to stock boost. This will keep you from blowing up your car***) Always set this after you reset the EVC. Put it 0.1 to 0.15 higher than the high boost you are planning on running. Alt: Switches between high and low boost mode. Lights up Green in Low, Red in High Mode. Power: Duh! Scramble Boost: Activates Added boost for the period you set with the mode button. Resetting the EVC: Hold the top 2 buttons along with the lower right button to reset it. (Mode, ALT, and Scramble) Tuning for Supra: Turn the power on and reset the unit. Turn the knob and set your stock boost. (if you don't know it, set it at 0.65, hit the scramble button, and then go to redline in third gear. This is your Max stock boost. reset the EVC and then use this number) Hit the scramble button and then add 0.15 bar to your stock boost (i.e., if your stock boost is 0.9 then enter 1.0) then hit scramble again. Important: Hit mode 4 times to set your overboost. Boost will now be set at you stock boost in low mode. Hit ALT to switch to High Boost mode and enter in how much boost you want. Go do a 3rd gear pull and see if you get the desired boost. If it makes more boost than you want then reset the unit and add 0.5 more to your stock boost (0.2), if you get less, then add 0.5 less (0.1) etc. If you can only get so close, you will have to use the Offset feature. Hit the mode button once, and you will see 100. If you are overboosting, turn it up (between 101-150) if you are underboosting turn it down (between 99-50) TTC Tuning: Reset the EVC. Hold down the ALT and Scramble Buttons (the 2 right buttons) This will put the EVC in Learning Mode and display a L on the screen. In third gear, accelerate until the EVC beeps and displays an H. (this may or may not be to redline. Again in 3rd gear, from the same RPM as the first pull, go all the way to redline and let off. The unit should then beep and show your stock boost. Go ahead and set your overboost and then your desired boost level. If you don't get desired boost (assuming its realistic), or it didn't go from L to H, you need to start from scratch. If you still don't get the desired boost, you can use the offset button explained above to fine tune things. If you can't get the unit to go from L to H, then you are either doing something wrong (i.e., not following instructions or are in Sequential mode). or you have some sort of vacuum or boost leak that is making boost inconsistent, keeping the EVC from learning your boost curve. I take no responsibility for your actions, but as long as you set your overboost correctly you shouldn't be able to blow up anything. For the record all test pulls should be done on a closed racetrack.

I have set my max boost level to 0.9 on my EVCIV and am using stock turbos and no FCD and cats installed. What figure would I expect to use at this stage and what stages can be reached safely without cats \ FCD and\or hybrid turbos ?
-
From my understanding of documents I have used to determine how to set up my BC, the word is the stock boost setting should be set to 0.65. If you are right that is is 0.8, then this could be the reason why my winged angel of death is behaving like a teletubbie ! (Edited by Lee Hockley at 11:02 am on Feb. 7, 2002)

When my boost is behaving itself, I have taken people out and they say that it is a thrill ride. But I often think that I don't get that feeling, as you say, "push back in the seat". I think this is because you are driving the car. When given control of my car to friends they often scare the cr*p out of me. Have you tried being a passenger in your own car yet ? One more thing, I understand that the first turbo was purely designed to eliminate lag. Its the second turbo that will give you the killer speed. You might want to get a boost gauge installed, for peace of mind. If you get poor results you can look into the problem that you actually know exists. Nice. So it is well consealed. That would have been a wise investment. I am waiting for my ... punishment.

I do plan to go to that for sure. I understand that the venue has not been decided yet ? Can you build a revolving number plate ? Activated by radar signals ... could have done with one of those a few weeks ago.
