I would be removing each wheel in turn and have a good look, the pads don't always wear evenly so you need to inspect the pads on each side of the disc.

Any exhaust assembly paste will do, make sure you don't buy repair paste type stuff.

Either will work. I prefer exhaust assembly paste as it will seal most exhaust joints and you don't have to buy something specific to a particular model car like you do with gaskets. You've just got to use plenty of paste and you'll get a good seal every time.

I ended up cutting mine in half and pulling one half through the normal direction and the other half was knocked through the other way using a steel rod.
