Glad you've got it sorted. The bloke should've fitted it properly in the first place. When I forget the way something might fit it helps to look for marks left by bolt heads, corrosion etc.

I think they've got to do something and put restrictions on new cars that are built with ever increasing engine sizes and performance figures. I don't believe they should do it with secondhand cars though as they will gradually disappear anyway.

Normal spray paint works too without any discolouring, a bloke on Supraforums can testify to that. But you require a primer and the paint isn't as thick. I used the plasti-coat smooth stuff in red, it was a nicer shade than hammerite . B & Q and Halfords sell it.

This fitment guide is useful, you can input your sizes. Most of us if buying aftermarket wheels would put wider wheels on the rear just like the stock car as Ian has already mentioned. But if you're set on buying 8.5" front and rear then in my opinion they wouldn't cause you any problems, the best tyre sizes would be (if using 18" wheels). 235/40 18 front 255/40 18 rear I've also taken into account of the stock tyre diameter so your tyres will fill the arches and your speedo won't be too far out.
