TBH a commute along Uxbridge Rd will be stop start as there are a lot of lights and it's a busy area, you would be a lot better off going along the A40 if possible.
As for Ealing, it's just a bit more upmarket than Uxbridge. It has a proper town centre, easy to get to A40 and M4, is on the Central & District lines (rail takes 6 mins to get to Paddington), it's leafy and has a wide range of properties from Victorian to modern, from the average to millionaires hide-aways. It's pretty well known as being a good area of West London to live without the expense of say Chiswick or Kensington.
