If that includes Tracking and insurance I'd go ahead and do it. You can ask them to declare a low value - they might or they might not, depending on how square they are

Can you tell me how much exactly they quoted? It's quite possible that they are not taking the piss, shipping from the US to UK has gone up a LOT in the past year or so, and even if someone else in the US was to ship on your behalf it may not be much different in price. It would also help if they could tell you the weight so you can work out how much it should be for yourself.

Dehumidifiers will do the job for sure. If you get one, make sure it is a desiccant one rather than compressor, so it will work in low temperatures like you will have in the garage. I have one made by Meaco and it works a treat.

A few months ago I sold £40 of records to a customer in the US. Packed them up, shipped them off, no problem. Soon after he sent me an email saying he'd made a mistake as he'd provided his old address. Needless to say, he hasn't received them nor have they been returned. So he puts in a Paypal claim saying 'Non Receipt'. I rang Paypal today stating what had happened, and sent them proof of postage and the email thread where the customer told me he had provided the wrong address. Guess whose side Paypal is on.
