  1. Replace it? Not resurface it? And yeah I know it’s overkill. Kind of a «cheapo» quick project so don’t wanna be spending more on it. Have driven some ACT / spec 6-pucks before and tho not the most optimal choice for this, I’m fine with it.
  2. Bought a pressure plate and flywheel together with an engine that have been laying in the corner of a workshop past couple years. Flywheel has some rust on it. Have gone over it lightly with a scotchbrite a couple turns already but didn’t wanna risk making the surface uneven so removed basically only the orange surface dust. Went a bit harder on the area where the pressure plate mounts and seems most of it comes off with a couple more passes. How bad of an idea would it be slapping this on and using as is? Seems there‘s a very slight orange-peely like texture on the flywheel side when shining a light and looking at an angle. Pressure plate seems kinda fine but at the same time seems like there is a bit of similar pitting / orange peely like texture beneath the machining lines? No rust / discoloring tho. Clutch is a 6 puck rated for 900nm going onto a 350nm car so was hoping it could work as is but guessing the answer will be it need resurfacing and just need someone to confirm the bad news .
  3. How noisy are they for you? Heard that the VVTi BC272's are reeeally noisy
  4. Anyone here running BC 264's on a VVTi head? Doing a build currently and went ahead and got BC 264's for it. I notice now tho that there's quite a big difference in specs of the 264's between VVTi and non-VVTi, while the 272's and 276's have pretty much the same specs. The non-vvti 264's have 9.52mm lift and 220/226 duration, while the VVTi ones have only 8.74mm lift and 218/218 duration, so starting to wonder if they're worth putting in at all or if I should go for 272's instead (9.52mm/9.65mm lift and 229/231 duration). Build specs: Wiseco AP pistons stock compression Manley rods ARP headstuds and main caps bolts BC single springs with TI retainers 6boost exhaust manifold Aftermarket intake BW s369 3.5" DP and exhaust It will be a street car that will mostly be driven on pump gas. Hoping for 650whp on pump and 800-850 for the ocasional e85 weekend rides. Originally went for the 264's as with the strict Norwegian rules there's a chance I'll have to revert back to stock twins setup for inspections, and thought the 264's would be fine to run on stock ECU for those times, but if the gains from them will be miniscule I might just go 272 instead.
  5. Anyone here using Manley 14027-6 rods (std, non H-tuff)? If so, what power are you running? I had my VVTi GTE built not long ago with Manley 14027-6 rods as at the time everything was on backorder. My goal is around 850whp on E85 (stock comp build, most likely going for an s369). Saw some websites rate them for 800whp, but talked to Manley now and they told me it’s 800 CRANK hp. Couldn’t really find any dyno sheets using these as understandibly, when the availability is like it should, people go for the H-tuffs. Find it hard to believe they would be just that weak tho? I’ve seen people with Eagles run 1100+whp no problem (tho the beam seems just a tiny bit wider on them, but was told the «finish» om them isn’t as good as the Manleys? Anyone that can shed some light on this? Starting to worry I’ll just end up with some expensive bananas in my engine.
  6. Turns out someone has been in the head before I got the car, and managed to put it back together with one of the dowels between the head and cam cap missing. Tried looking for them online, but seems like I can only find the dowels for inbetween the head and block? Anyone knows the part number?
  7. Hey guys! Not sure if this is the right subforum to ask about this, but I'm on the lookout for a thread I've read quite some time ago, and now can't manage to find again. Not 100% if it was this site even, but pretty sure (same colors / design). The thread was of 3 Supras with pretty much identical setups (same turbo etc.), the difference being that one was a 2jz-gte, other was a 2jz-gte vvti, and the last one was a 2jz-gte 3.4 stroker. Was close to the setup I am going for so would be nice to compare the gains. I have a 2jz-gte vvti which I'm building atm, and I'm trying to decide what turbo to go for. Aiming for around 600-whp on 98 octane octane, and 800 for the ocassional e85, which will make for a good, responsive street setup. Trying to stay on the budget side turbo-wise (so no Garrets, DBB PTEs, BW EFRs etc) as the engine build went a little out of hand. Looked into stuff like the BW s366, PTE 6766 JB, PTE 6266JB, but have a difficult time finding dyno sheets of them on VVTI motors. Wondering just how much difference in spool, and out of boost driveability the VVTi would make.
  8. Little update: Went ahead and got new HD Wiseco AP pistons for it aswell.
  9. Doing an overhaul on my engine now. Aiming for around 800whp max on e85, with multiple maps. Won’t be seeing "full kill" often. Upgrading the rods already, but wondering what I should do about the pistons? The block was in good shape so just needed a rehone and is staying stock bore. The stock pistons are also in a good shape. Good idea to upgrade them or am I fine staying stock pistons with new rings? Don’t want to use more money than really needed.
