  1. Hi guys, New to the world of supra's but trying to do some research as to things that work and don't work. I come from the 3SGTE MR2 world, so I'm wondering if some of the knowlegde I've acquired over the years works with the 2JZ. I opted for a 272 intake / 264 ex HKS setup with HKS valve springs on my MR2. The 3S comes from factory with a staggered setup. This worked really nicely, smooth idle and a great pull from about 4,000k to 7,500rpm with a T67. Low down torque wasn't bad either. The initial stock HKS specs seemed geared to the top end, so I opted to adjust the exhaust cam to improve spool. I did a few searches and it seems the staggered suggestions have been raised, but not much comment. Cheers Steve
  2. What do you guys think of the power fc's on this board? I come from an MR2 background and they are widely used in Japan in high hp applications. The one I had with fc-datalogit I thought was great, easy to map and very useable. I even managed to tweek a base map together for 850 injectors, cams and a T67 to run the engine in. True it lacked features like traction control etc but I thought for a well priced EMS solution it was a superb peice of kit.
  3. Nope mate. It was after accelerating Cheers for the thought tho!
  4. Hi Danny, Yup ... just picked her up last week. It was going to be either a supra of a T88 powered MR2 Sense one the day haha
  5. Hi guys, Picked up my 1993 RZ TT manual at the weekend. Firstly ... WOW, 3rd and 4th gears are immense! Today when I was driving the car, the dash board warning triangle light came on. I pulled in, had a quick look around under the bonnet. Everything appeared normal. Restarted, warning light was no longer on. Pulled out onto the duel carriage way, the light came back on after a quarter mile or so. I noticed the active spoiler light hadn't come on. I slowed down. Then accelerated and the active spoiler light came on and the dash warning light went off. Any ways to check the ECU for potential error codes etc? Thanks guys! Steve
  6. Wow ... didnt intend for this thread to take a leap to one engine vs another lol (although the title may look that way ) The heads are likely to be different. The 1jz I now know is a short stroke engine designed from factory to make peak hp at a higher rpm than the 2jz. Its not a matter of better or worse, they're just designed with a different aim. At the end of the day, if you take any head and throw the cash at it it generally matters little which one you use. Oh, back onto the big single talk. Is that big single kits for a soarer?
  7. garethr - I see you have a soarer TT, thats the particular car thats making me look at what these engines are like Is it easy enough to buy aftermarket exhausts, decats etc for the soarer tt in the uk?
  8. Thanks for the info! Sounds like its a great engine, was interested to see how short the stroke was .. lol .. 71.5mm versus 86mm on the 2jz. They must rev incredibly well!
  9. Hi guys, I was wondering how the 1JZ and the 2JZ engines compare in terms of strength. I know the supra 2JZ-GTE lump is incredible when it comes to making power, but whats the 2.5 liter 1JZ like in comparison? Do they share a very similar design just different displacement? Any info would be appreciated! Oh, I'm referring specifically to the 93-97 non VTi engines ":: Engine Data for the JZ engines below 1JZ-GTE 93 – 97 2491cc 8.5:1 280 @ 6200 EFI, Air/Air Twin Parallel Turbo 2JZ-GTE 93 – 97 2997cc 8.5:1 280 @ 5600 EFI, Air/Air Twin Sequential Turbo " Thanks Steve
  10. Lol .... ooopss .... Maggoo
  11. Ahh ... the joy of iridiums and their exposed tips. They're great for supressing detonation I found, but once you get passed that level you can say hello engine damage. That nackered valve looks just like one on an MR2 I know that chewed up an iridium plug. I'm going with cheapo NGK copper grade 8 plugs and change them every oil change next
  12. I disagree. Performance parts in the UK are a rip off in my opinion, although things have improved massively in the last year or so. I ordered a high performance clutch last spring from the US for my MR2 and fitted it shortly before Ten of The Best. I ran it in properly per manufacturers instructions. Then I get to TOTB and it slipped on nitrous. I emailed my contact in the US and his attitude "No problem, warranty replacement on the way". I've had friends deal with so called reputable UK tuning / performance parts suppliers and hear "You must've fitted it incorrectly" when they've had an issue. You dont always get what you pay for, such as forged pistons bought off the shelf are £500+VAT+delivery for my car in the Uk when I can buy the exact same pistons from the UK for $500+shipping and taxes and have them in 2 weeks. With the current exchange rates I personally think anyone would be mad not to buy parts from the US. I agree in part, you buy cheap stuff expect budget results. But what infuriates me is when the likes of Aquamist sells a UK water injection product cheaper in the US through their dealers than they do here. I challenge anyone to show me how we're getting what we pay for in that kind of situation. (Note, I've not checked prices recently, Aquamist WI may've changed their pricing structure)
  13. OOoo .. crikey. There's some serious cars there to compete!! The little grey Evo 2, I'm sure I read about its recent engine rebuild somewhere. Lol ... wont make boost till 7-8k and then revs to 11-12k max! Its kerb weight is something like 900kgs too so he's aiming for 8's!!
  14. Last I heard from Sean is that John is set to be in the Uk in April, but no dates are set yet.
  15. Lol I spoke to Michel Lane at the weekend and he wasnt aware of it - so no harm in mentioning it again
  16. I assume you chaps are aware of it, but thought it was worth a mention. John Reed from Torque Freaks is due in the UK in April to be tuning a number of cars. Could be a good chance for anyone who'd want the Torque Freaks chaps to tweek your AEM setups as thats their specialty I believe
  17. I've heard good things from the US mr2 guys about the hydra nemesis, some of the well known tuners on the US board really like it. Apparantly very user friendly and easy to tune. Dunno who's over seeing the supra application though, http://www.mrcontrols.com have been very involved with the development of the MR2 version and the software. Theres quite a bit of info on there site. GTSchris from imoc has the MR2 unit on his car up in newcastle, seems to like it.
  18. I quite like my plxdevices wideband - works out under 200 quid to your door. http://www.plxdevices.com/onlinestore_international.htm It doesnt have inbuilt dataloging, but I can hook up its wideband output to my fc-datalogit with my power FC. It also has a narrow band output, so I always wondered if that would make it possible to do away with the stock 02 sensor and by running the narrow band output back to the loom on my MR2.
  19. I'm almost in a similar boat. I'm getting a stainless steel top mount manifold made for my MR2. My concern is engine movement when drag racing. So I'm considering putting solid urethane engine mount inserts on - it'll eliminate engine flex but will take alot more vibration into the cabin.
  20. Could be worth attempting to brace the manifold or perhaps reinforce it somehow. I think some of the Honda crowd try this. For the money you cant really go wrong in all honesty.
  21. Hi chaps, Masterpower is a brazilian turbo manufacturer http://www.masterpower.com.br/eng_intro.htm I actually have one of their T3 turbos waiting to fit to my MR2. The quality looks good. I've taken it apart next to an HKS/Garrett T04R and the machine work seems like quality. I have heard bad things about the ssautochrome manifolds for a number of cars. I'd steer clear for a turbo application. The NA manifolds apparantly have worked pretty well for NA MR2's. Steve
  22. Hi, "ProStock : All 2WD cars with engine no more than 2.5liter normally aspirated or 2.0liter turbocharged engine with only minor performance modifications. These modifications can't change number of cylinders and sizing of the original engine" What counts as minor performance modifications? I have MR2 turbo with; Cams, cam gears, Apexi FC, turbo upgrade, manifold, exhaust and nitrous. Stock pistons, rods and crank e.g. no increase in displacement. Would I be allowed in prostock? Thanks Steve
  23. Most nitrous kits seem to be based around spraying the gas at around 900-1000 psi. There can be a big difference in power dependent on bottle pressure. For instance I know one fella who sprayed a 50 shot on his MR2 in the US with a bottle pressureof 1300psi ... lol ... he gained about 100hp and 160lbs of torque As an indicator, the highest pressure I recorded at TOTB this year in my MR2 was about 800psi (thats without using a bottle heater). Worth investing in the rest of the toys though to ensure you get optimum performance from what your spraying
