It's rubbish, I wouldn't get one if I were you. Nobody here would touch one with a barge pole I recently got my low-mileage '96 facelift model for quite a bit less than that, so I guess you can get a canine's danglies of a Supra for that sort of money. If it's a fresh import, check the auction grade - do a search on this site to find more info. Make sure all the required conversions have been done (e.g. kmh->mph) and that it has its SVA certificate. If you are not too confident with cars, get it checked out by the AA or the RAC, or one of the engineery-type people off this board might be able to help for a consideration? Change the oil regularly. Find a local mechanic on these boards who can do its routine servicing. That's about it, really. Being a Toyota, it's highly unlikely to go wrong. But, being a twin-turbo, it's highly likely to cost a fortune if it does! Decisions, decisions...

S.E.M- March *FIRST POST WILL BE KEPT UP TO DATE*
splurge replied to Supragal's topic in National Events
Damn, damn, and thrice damn. The first time I look in the "meets" section to find out when something is going to happen in the south-east, I find out it was yesterday. Looked like a really good one as well. Ah well, next time, next time... Thanks to those who've posted photos! -
Yep... if I had the faintest idea what a blown fuse looked like or how to pull them out, which being an electrically-ignorant fool, I haven't
-
-
Thanks for all your advice so far. Here's a pic of my fuses, shortly to be followed by a pic of the fuse layout. Any idea which one is the crucial one, and whether it's blown or not? Cheers!
-
Thanks for the advice. Excuse my ignorance (I'm new here), but who's Emin and what are EL dials? Cheers!
-
Thanks for that. It hasn't got any extra gauges or anything. The only thing I can think of is that it had an alarm fitted recently - could this have screwed it up? Cheers!

Hello, I'd be grateful for any advice anyone could offer on the subject of fixing my dial illumination. My speedo, tacho, and three auxiliary dials (it's a facelift Supra) don't seem to light up any more. All the other interior lights work fine. Am I right in assuming that it's probably just a bulb blown or a dodgy contact? If so, please could someone advise me how to remove the instrument pod and fix it, or direct me to where some guidelines for doing this are available? (I have checked that it's not just the instrument illumination dial turned all the way down ) Cheers!

Damn straight, that looks superb

Welcome! Just got my Supra this week and I'm lovin' it
-
Well I sent you a PM or email-via-the-bbs (I can't remember which) at the start of the week about whether you could get any white dials for a facelift ('96) Supra and I ain't heard nuffink... maybe it takes a while for the messages to work their way through the system, or maybe (=probably) I screwed it up 'cos I'm a newbie? Anyhows, can you get any white dials for a facelift ('96) Supra? Cheers!

Hey Taz, welcome! Just bought mine yesterday and have a similar smile situation. Look forward to meeting you and the rest of the guys soon. Cheers, Splurge.

Thanks y'all. I've been spending the rest of the evening taking a rapid tour of the surrounding area. And yes, the grin is still there Pics will follow when I get me, the car, and a camera together in daylight. To be honest, though, it looks just like any other black Supra that hasn't been modded. I am planning to do a bit of a project (perhaps a projectette or projectina) on the interior so I will post some more after that. Get it sprayed silver? But I have just gone to all the trouble of finding a black one And TDRAPER, I live in Laindon. Happy Splurge. Cheers again for all your advice.

Yes!!! Very happy Splurgey today, as I have just taken delivery of my first Supra. It's black, it's automatic, it's J-Spec, it's twin turbo, it's, well, sweet. But then you knew that already, didn't you? Things I learned on the way home that I didn't know before: 1. The fuel warning light lasts for at least 25 miles (oops). 2. The fuel flap release control is hidden under the front mat (double oops). 3. The standard Supra stereo (assuming mine _is_ standard - tape player on top, matching CD player below) is actually not too bad. 4. Any owner of an S2000 is likely to suffer serious 0wnage (sorry, couldn't resist that phrase) if they try to take a Supra on the slip road joining the A127. I mean, it's a nice car, the S2000, but... what was he thinking? By the way, I hope nobody's already got my new .sig . If someone else thought of it first, just let me know and I'll change it. Happier than Larry. Splurgey

Cheers, I will give him a shout.

Very nice indeed... may I ask where you got 'em from? And does anyone know if there are any white dial sets available for post '96 Supras (with the different gauge layout)? Cheers!

Got mine for £800 fully comp from Elephant... I'm 26 years old, with full no-claims, and that's for a '96 twin-turbo. You have to phone them up for a quote as they don't do on-line quotes for imports. Give 'em a shot. Splurgey

Hey, Well, I for one think that a magazine about quality cars that doesn't feature gratuitous nudity will be a welcome change. I'll buy it. Good luck to ya.

Nice paint, nice kit, f'king nice wheels

OK, good news in the Supra quest. I have had some insurance quotes back, and the best one is from Elephant, who want to charge me the bargainous sum of £800 per year. This is for a 26-year-old, 7500 miles per year, with protected full no-claims. They won't quote on their website, though - you have to phone them up and humour them! I have also had an acceptable offer on the Jag. The guy just wants to check out the service history with the dealers. So, all things being well, I could have a sale tomorrow, which means I might even get Supra'd up by the weekend. The saga continues, but the thumbs are definitely rotating upwards

Funny you should ask, as I was reading an article on the subject this very morning... Apparently, 55% of cars on the motorway exceed the speed limit (or did in 2000 when the government did the survey). The average speed on motorways is 70mph. Most people who do exceed the limit only do so by about 10mph. Given the number of Supras I have seen driving quite a way above this figure , I guess this must also mean that there's an equal number of drivers who tootle along the motorway at around 35mph - presumably these are the same guys who spoil all our winding country roads as well... Splurge

Actually, I suggested that to the missus, but she wasn't too keen on the idea Still, if you're interested in a bargain XJ8, let me know! Now I'm just waiting for quotes from the insurance companies... wish they'd get on with it so I can buy the frickin' car.

Nice one mate. I would say that is top-quality work. Are you gonna co-ordinate the rest of the interior, i.e. put some white panels on the doors, maybe the transmission tunnel etc? Splurgey

I'm just about (fingers crossed) to buy a Supra with a black carpet, but I want a cream one. If you know how to get 'em out and in again, and yours is in good condition, I could probably swap you if ya fancied it?
