anybody driven an Alfa 147 GTA 300+bhp monsta?
FaithStalker replied to FaithStalker's topic in Non-Supra Technical
ouch! what are the stats on those things? they made a 156 GTA too, but thats not too hot.... the new GT is nice, but too expensive, give that 3 - 4 years and you'll be getting great bargains on that. strange cos over here in NZ Alfa's are mega money - even second hand!!!!!!!!!!! -

FaithStalker replied to FaithStalker's topic in Non-Supra Technical
hmm i'm pretty sure i saw some stats about its 0-60 in about 6.4 secs seconds - cant remember Supra NA stats , but stock TT is 5.7 AUTO and 4.7 manual. Yeah i am not comparing it to the Supra point for point, I just really like the look of it, no doubt about it - it has style and sexy elegance (imho), and have always been interested in Alfa's - you can find some great bargains and some great lemons -
mine WAS called "Faith" when i had it.... a Slayer from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, see my avatar picture, sassy, attitude, kicked arse. just like my old Supra sniff - i miss my old supra....
-
As the thread title suggests - anyone had one, knows someone with one? test drove one...? Have they got rid of those horrid reliability issues and little things that destroy the driving pleasure (i.e rattles and bits falling off) http://www.parkers.co.uk has some good owners reviews... prices are falling now too, 10K will buy a 2002 car with all leather , air con etc etc. i vowed never to buy an Alfa again after my 6 month stint with a 155 - i sold it with a loss of 4K after it had a problem every day of its sad life....
-
In the 3 years i owned a supra i always missed this event, now, when its based in peterborough, where i used to live, im clucking a million miles away in New Zealand without a Supra, just some crappy 1986 starlet turbo with no more power than a hair dryer on setting 'I' life without a supra sux
-
AHEM my supra was called Faith, my avatar is Faith....Faith can kick Buffys arse while wearing hotred lipstick, Buffy's a wimp compared to Faith! (im obsessed can u tell!)
-

Tlicense - Michelin stated thier tyres were not safe and dangerous to race with. FIA stated putting a chicane in was not safe and dangerous to race with. With all the latest statements coming out it proves what I said, that the FIA cannot change a circuit and would be totally liabel if they did. I dont have the "perfect" solution to the problem, but the Teams should have agreed to run speed trapped offline in the corner. They didnt want to be lapped by Minardi's and Jordans in front of the US market. They chickened out and pushed all the responsibility onto the FIA. If you read between the lines of the Paul Stoddart statement on F1racing-live.com you can see he "glosses" over the fact the teams dismissed any other solution open to them other than a chicane - So they can race an equal footing with everyone else and look *good* - even though it was UNSAFE to do so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They should stop blaming the FIA and releasing stupid press statements critisising them. Why are the Teams not saying Michelin should re-imburse the fans? Why are the Teams not saying Why couldnt Michelin produce a proper tyre? Why are the Teams not saying We understand that safety was the reason the FIA didnt put a chicane in?
-
Tlicence - Im sorry but your attitude and the attitude of the other Michelin teams is what caused the race not to go ahead as a full F1 grid. Im sorry if you think that running OFFLINE in turn 13 at 100mph or filing through the pitlane at 50mph wouldnt be good enough for you, but its a dam site better than just 6 cars on the track, you forget that all teams insist that everyone they compete against is within the rules, there can be no compromise, and has never been in the past. the only difference in this case is the amount of teams it affected. For some reason that is justification to change or ask for rules to be broken. some specific point you made : "Again wrong conclusion, we were told we would be given the penalty which is exclusion from the race. Further penalties could be exclusion from future events." I think you need to check what Max Mosely stated in a press release he gave. He specifically stated that the rules regarding tyre changes is a steward issue that is then reported to the FIA. If the FIA were to deem that the tyre change was in the interests of safety and an failure could be proved then there would not be a problem. So to also link that to your statement regarding the "high pressures were used but indications were that they were going to fail" then here is your best option. Start on the faulty tyres, go directly to the pitlane as you did, and then change to the tyres being flown in (only change once and run on those tyres the whole race). You would be slow, but at least racing and racing at the required speeds to compete for points. Then show you "indications it was going to fail" to the FIA at a meeting sometime in the future. Please remember this fact - its is *NOT* against the FIA rules to change tyres where safety of the driver was considered to be compromised. Proving it was a safety requirement is the responsibility of the teams. And finally im going to restate where was the 2nd set of HARD tyres that are based on safety not performance ??? why were these not used? Because Michelin hadnt produced them that way. The teams have all been happy with Michelin for putting them on the front of the grid by using tyres on the edge of safety, now its blown up in the teams face they pass the buck over to the FIA and blame them for not racing. Grow a pair. Its F1. Reading today about being summond to the FIA, i cant see anything unfair about the charges against the Teams, I hope they get a sufficient penalty befitting the damage they have done to F1. For me that would be removal of half of all championship points awarded so far for the constructor. Anyone else realise that BAR is already under probation from thier dodgy Fuel Tank. Its quite possible they could be thrown out!!!!!!

Anyone on here? Ive left the new business cards on some windows, wondered if anyone has signed up yet Faithstalker - bringin the world of supra owners....together...

I for one am totally against the rules and regs curently in F1, and dont rate Max Mosely at all. **BUT** on this occasion i can see his point and understand his actions. I know everyone admits that the Blame was Michelin's and that something should have been done. but why place that responsibility on the FIA ?????????? Why is the responsibility of putting teams on the grid that have been given infrerior equipment the FIA's problem? Why? MONEY!! Here's how it really is : Michelin broke all the rules regarding its tyre. It provided teams with a tyre so on the edge that it couldnt be safe. Under the rules must provide a 2nd "backup" compound that must be considered safe and durable (i.e the HARD compound). They did not provide that, they broke the rule's. Then they wanted to break more rules, they wanted to fly in tyres that were safe and race them. the FIA said this was *OK* and that the stewards at the end of the race would lodge a complaint with the FIA. the FIA would then consider if it was a safety issue and punish accordingly (no race bans, just points / demotions of position) ***Here is where the MONEY comes in. option 1 - Use the new tyres flown in: The Teams would have had to race on those tyres with no previous running or setup. they would be slow, very slow. NOT GOOD for sponsers to see Minardi passing a McLaren. The TEAMS REJECTED THIS IDEA option 2/3/4/5 : Suggested by the FIA Run very high pressures in the tyre: TEAMS again would be slow, rejected - see option 1 Change Tyres every 10 laps : rejected - See option 1 Run slow in the problem corner : FIA would speedtrap all michelin runners and give drive through penalties for those exceeding the speed. Therefore making everything fair and above board for the michelin runners. rejected - see option 1 Run through the pitlane - rejected see option 1 do you see where i am going with this? final option : convince the public its someone elses problem and try and force the FIA to put in a chicane, and if not dont start the race. FIA cannot change the circuit without prior running on the track, the FIA would be totally LIABLE FOR SUING if an accident/injury occured after it altered the track without following its own safety procedures. Safety procedures which have been agreed by every country that F1 races in and by which they are allowed to run a race. The teams therefore decided it wouldnt be in their best interests to allow Minardi's and Jordan's to lap them 2/3 times in a race (even if they were in thier own "group" racing") and so decided to not start the race ...well not quite true.... they did "start" the race, they formed on the grid - why? because each team would be fined 250,000USD per car, if they do not put a car on the grid. Safety was it? as always with F1 ...money... and I havnt even mentioned how unfair any of these options would have been to Bridgestone.

FaithStalker replied to Supragal's topic in National Events
Come to New Zealand - i'll give ya all a warm welcome ;-) -
try a try called Neuman or Pnewman, Newman or something like that (sounds like Paul Newman!)- budget tyre made by Dunlop, had them on my rears, 80quid a corner, last forever and give great grip, i was well impressed, got them from local garage that was doing my MOT, bout the only good advice they ever gave me.

i had a rover 45 as a company car a few years back, it was awful, fell apart, but whats the difference between that and an Alfa? simple, looks. the 45 and the 75 only seemed to ever appeal to flat-cap drivers, the convertable mg, was "almost" there, but again i had a ride in one and i worked with a guy who owned one, and he was getting 1000quid service bills every year, some major part would always be required to be replaced. it wasnt anything special and did really appeal to the early 30's driver who wanted real sports car handling and great sound, it was only later that they added the MG 175.. was it called? to be a true sports car that things got interesting for that model, but the reputation was already in the gutter. why by a new MG 175 convertabile for 18to20grand when you can go get a BMW m3 convertible second hand and let it run and run. at the end of the day, MG used to be great because if you looked around at the cars at that time they looked pretty cool, there was no real 2nd market, and the mini was a revolution. MG today - can you say that????

Help getting Manual for Starlet Turbo...
FaithStalker replied to Bobbystone's topic in Non-Supra Technical
umm i think we got the starlet GT down here in NZ as a proper toyota model so perhaps could get a manual, give us the exact make model year and i'll search around. do you want owners handbook? workshop manual ? -
the alfa 156 isnt a spoiler, it makes it easier to push/pull when it doesnt start for no aparent reason, and a reason that the local FIAT dealer cant solve while you drive around in a Cinquichento (RRP 4000) rather that your 2.5 v6 156 (rrp 29,000). not that i'm a bitter ex-alfa owner. PLEASE GOD, let VW or someone buy Alfa off Fiat and make them good again, now i hear they are getting GM engines - sh**!!!!!!!!!!
